This paper describes such an alternative scanning approach, and presents a group of new and simpler radiating structures suitable for millimeter-wave applications. Additional significant advantages are that the radiation has negligible cross polarization, no blind spots and no grating lobes. The theoretical analyses for all of the antenna structures are accurate and yield dispersion relations in closed form for most of them; the array analyses take all mutual coupling effects into account. For two of the antennas, measurements have also been taken that show very good agreement with the theory.","PeriodicalId":248044,"journal":{"name":"1990 20th European Microwave Conference","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125582032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The key features of any sensor which exploits this technology are that it has no moving parts, and can accurately \"look\" in many independent directions simultaneously. In addition the arrays are based on integrated circuitry with the potential for full monolithic implementation in low cost silicon or GaAs. Associated research has shown that scaled versions of the technology are applicable to a range of operating frequencies from below 10 GHz up to 94 GHz. It therefore represents a less complex alternative to phased array technology for higher frequencies, and offers considerable advantages over conventional, mechanically scanned sensor hardware in terms of performance, cost, volume, weight, and reliability.","PeriodicalId":248044,"journal":{"name":"1990 20th European Microwave Conference","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114134255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The beam scanning characteristics of the directive gain of spherical and planar arrays are examined by computer simulation, and it is shown that the gain reduction of a spherical array is suppressed about 2 dB at a scan angle of 60° compared with that of a planar array. Mechanical and electrical performance of a vacuum formed hemispherical array is introduced. Experiment results show the feasibility of easily fabricated conformal arrays with good electrical performance.","PeriodicalId":248044,"journal":{"name":"1990 20th European Microwave Conference","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114191441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The boundary problem for Maxwell's equations in stratified media is reduced to the electric field integral equation for the unknown surface current distribution on the patch in a unit cell of the grid. We inverse the vector differential operator in this equation and obtain a new system of integral equations of first kind for the unknown surface current on the patch.
