Neutrophils, apart from their role in immunodefence, are also connected with lung injury, because of excessive release of enzymes such as elastase and myeloperoxidase (MPO), as well as nitric oxide (NO) generation. The purpose of this study was the relation between release of neutrophil products, acute phase proteins level (APP) and ascorbic acid (AA) concentration in the course of BRD in calves. The study was carried out on 10 healthy and 10 BRD calves. Neutrophil enzymes were assessed spectrophotometrically, NO level was determined by Griess reaction. Fibrinogen level was estimated by the heat precipitation method. Haptoglobin was assessed by the Owen’s method. AA analysis was done after reaction with dinitrophenyhydrazine. We estimated that elastase (71.97 ± 3.89%) and MPO (29.7 ± 5.88%) release from neutrophils isolated from BRD calves was significantly higher than from healthy animals (54.23 ± 5.66% and 19.18 ± 8.3%, respectively, p < 0.05). Moreover, our experiment revealed the positive correlation between secretory action of neutrophils and APP. We also observed that increased secretory action correlated negatively with plasma concentration of AA.","PeriodicalId":247720,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Medicina Veterinaria","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127634249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Viral and bacterial infections, parasitic invasions and fungal toxins are potent suppressants of various parts of the immune system. Viruses destroy cellular and cell-free immune responses. Proteinases of Paenibacillus larvae decrease the antibacterial activity of haemolymph humoral factors of the apidaecine type. Aflatoxins of Aspergillus sp. destroy the anatomical and physiological barriers of the honey bee haemocoel and haemocytic responses. Deleterious effects of Varroa destructor are realized on cellular and subcellular levels of the immune system.","PeriodicalId":247720,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Medicina Veterinaria","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125252446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper was described antibiogram and heavy metal tolerance of Aeromonas spp. isolated from Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) hatchery in Malaysia. Aeromonas spp. was recognized as causative agent of motile aeromonad septicemia (MAS) which attack in Asian seabass and caused tremendous loss to fish farmer. Therefore this study was carried out to help fish farmer in selecting the suitable antibiotic in controlling MAS due to Aeromonas spp. diseased Asian seabass fingerling and water sample from the fingerling tank were collected from a commercial farm. Aeromonas spp. was isolated using Glutamate Starch Pseudomonas (GSP). The isolated bacterial isolates were identified using conventional biochemical tests and confirmed with commercial identification kit. 150 bacterial isolates of Aeromonas spp. were randomly selected from antibiotic susceptibility and heavy metal tolerance test. All the bacterial isolates were found to be sensitive to nitrofuratoin, furazolidone, tetracycline, doxycycline, flumequine, oxolinic acid and florfenicol. Therefore, fish farmer may apply those antibiotics as prophylactive or treatment to against MAS due to Aeromonas spp. in Asian seabass culture.","PeriodicalId":247720,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Medicina Veterinaria","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116754583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main cell mechanism of non-specific immunity which takes part in elimination of infectious is phagocytosis, where neutrophils are the most important. Neutrophils are the first line of organisms' defense. Disturbances of non-specific cell immunity mechanisms after surgery procedure are the main reasons for postoperative complications in humans and animals. So, the proper monitoring of immunity parameters after operations is very important. It is useful to determine homeosthazy disturbances which facilitates prompt institution of therapeutic management.","PeriodicalId":247720,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Medicina Veterinaria","volume":"645 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116090570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to recognize an etiological factor of diseases with symptoms of lameness and subcutaneous tissues oedema, which occurred in 4 dogs after invasions of the ticks. The serological examinations [ELISA and Western blot] were done. In the samples of all 4 sera a presence of specific anti-Borrelia afzelii antibodies (IgG) were detected. The results of serological examinations, and the reaction of sick animals on tetracycline therapy showed, that in all four cases an etiological factor of the diseases were spirochetes Borrelia afzelii. In the light of the research, veterinary practitioners should keep in mind the presence of Lyme disease in dogs in Poland and include it in differential diagnosis for lameness.","PeriodicalId":247720,"journal":{"name":"Annales Umcs, Medicina Veterinaria","volume":"46 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114058502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
