{"title":"Ameliorating effect of royal jelly on viability and longevity of frozen-thawed buffalo spermatozoa","authors":"S. The reduction arises from both a lower viability post-thaw and sublethal dysfunction in a proportion of the surviving subpopulation. Thus, the present study was conducted to observe the effect of addition of royal jelly on subsequent survival and acrosomal integrity of buffalo spermatozoa during post-thawing incubation. Frozen-thawed semen samples were washed in Tris extender containing different concentrations of royal jelly (RJ): 0.0 control, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5%. Spermatozoa motility and viability in addition acrosomal integrity of thawed samples were assessed after thawing and at 30 min intervals during incubation at 37°C for 120 min. Results of experiment showed that the percentages of sperm function parameters were improved with an increase of royal jelly in Tris extender from 0.0 to 0.4% (P < 0.05). Statistical analysis for sperm motility and viability in addition acrosomal integrity (Tables 1, 2, 3) showed that best results (significant higher P < 0.05) occurred with RJ doses of 0.4 and 0.5% especially at 30-60 min incubation periods than that control. Therefore, the addition of 0.4% of royal jelly in Tris extender is recommended for dilution of thawed semen. {"title":"Effects of storing dromedary camel ovaries at 4 or 20°C for different periods of time on the morphology and viability of pre-antral follicles.","authors":"S. Ovaries were maintained in saline solution (0.9%) at 4 or 20°C for 6, 12 18 or 24 h. After storage, COCs were recovered from dromedary ovaries and were morphologically and viability evaluated by trypan blue exclusion test. The percentage of morphologically normal and live growing follicles was significantly reduced in ovarian tissue stored at 20°C for 12, 18 or 24 h. To assessment the viability of stored follicles, morphologically normal and live COCs isolated from ovaries stored at 4°C for 24 h and at 20°C for 6 h were in vitro matured (IVM) in TCM 199 + 10 μg/ml FSH + 10 IU hCG/ml + 10% FCS + 50 μg/ml gentamycin. COCs were incubated for 30 h at 38.5°C under 5% CO2 in humidified air. Follicles stored in either condition presented the same growth pattern in vitro as fresh follicles. {"title":"Mastitis mycotica in cows - causes, symptoms, and therapy","authors":"T. Amongst a variety of fungal species, Candida spp. is considered the major causative factor responsible for up to 95.5% of mastitis mycotica cases. The development of mastitis is dependent on predisposing factors, mainly uncontrolled use of antibiotics and decreased general as well as local immunity of animals. Generally, the disease process is mild and prolonged. In the majority of cases, the short, acute stage is followed by chronic mastitis. Although the disease in question is increasingly important in veterinary practice, fully satisfactory methods of therapy have not been determined.
