This degradation is based on ejected gases in the atmosphere. Reduction of the use of fossil fuel as the source of energy is critical in reducing those gases and reduction of importation costs. Consideration of local resources that would be the source of energy is one of the ways. This work investigates the contribution that crop residues of rice and maize would have on energy demand in Rwanda once they are used. Historical data of yearly energy demand and production of both maize and rice have been used. Calorific values have been determined from a laboratory experiment. The results show that they can contribute about a half to the Rwandan total energy consumption. Fossil fuel can completely be replaced by crop restudies in energy generation if the maximum of residues is collected. Under constraint that only half of the residues can be collected in practice, a small value of the fossil fuel can still be used. Analysis also has shown the dependence of residues species on the calorific values.","PeriodicalId":247617,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Smart Grid and Clean Energy","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121296276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to achieve grid voltage synchronize with phase and frequency information quickly under voltage sags, this paper proposed an improved Phase-Locked Loop (PLL), which is referred to as DSCαβ-PLL, based on the stationary references frame PLL. The DSCαβ-PLL can separate and track the positive-sequence voltage component of PCC in the stationary references frame. Then the proposed method is deduced in detail, and math expressions are presented next. According to above improvements, the relevant PLL simulation model is built in MATLAB/Simulink. The results show that the DSCαβ-PLL can not only be stable in different types of voltage sags, but also can track and lock the phase and frequency information of the voltage at PCC fast.","PeriodicalId":247617,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Smart Grid and Clean Energy","volume":"516 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123083948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optimal sizing and placement of grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) are important for power loss reduction in distribution system because it also leads to the cost reduction. To promote the solar PV energy, feed-in tariff (FiT) policy was used in many countries. However, due to the FiT still higher than normal wholesale, the distribution company (DisCo) can absorb and leads to increase electricity retail price in the future. Therefore, the DisCo investment cost related to the power loss reduction was analyzed in this work by considering sizing and placement of grid-connected solar PV on the IEEE 33 bus and IEEE 69 bus distribution systems. To explore optimal solar PV placement, profit-cost ratio (PCR) was estimated with parameters of the reduced cost due to reduction of power loss and the DisCo investment to absorb FiT cost. The results show the DisCo cost depending on the solar PV sizing and the reduced cost due to installation of solar PV placement in power distribution system. Although the maximum power loss reduction is an optimal location, the maximum reduction of the DisCo absorbing FiT cost was achieved at the maximum PCR location. Thus, the optimal placement relating to the PCR is an important to explore the solar PV allocation in distribution system.","PeriodicalId":247617,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Smart Grid and Clean Energy","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126040015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a decentralized energy management strategy is proposed as an efficient way to minimize both active power losses and voltage profile deviation of an distribution power network with photovoltaic solar farms, and also at the same time, aims to improve the reliability and the security of supply. The coordinated energy management concept relies on a two-step optimization approach based on genetic algorithms (GA) and MINLP, in which a multi-objective function is used which takes into account reliability and operational technical constraints in its formulation. The suitability of the proposed methodology is tested on an existing low voltage power system, in which two aspects are considered: firstly, determining the optimal allocation of PV units and secondly, establishing the optimal reschedule of the active power of the generation units participating in the energy mix and minimizing both the real power losses and voltage deviation of the entire power system.","PeriodicalId":247617,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Smart Grid and Clean Energy","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114192356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been reported that solar energy entering the roof of a typical home exceeds energy consumption per year. A liquid type is widely used as a medium to convert solar energy entering the roof into thermal energy. However, an air is the ultimate receiver of energy, and there is no problem of leakage, and it can be used by ventilation. By these reasons, in this study, air-based solar heat collection system is examined. In this research, an annual simulation was conducted to grasp the performance of air-based solar heat collecting system. It was prepared with reference to the past research of the solar thermal system simulation model. In addition, the accuracy of the simulation model was examined by comparison with the experimental results, and the validity of the simulation was confirmed.","PeriodicalId":247617,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Smart Grid and Clean Energy","volume":"319 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116232304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, OPC on nuclear power system has been reported from various countries of the world, however, the design vulnerability on power system that the existing protection relay in the power plant cannot detect the fault has been come to the front. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the design vulnerability of power system for OPC in Korean nuclear power plants having similar power system structure with overseas power plants. In this paper, the occurrence of OPC in a power plant that supplies power to the on-site through SUT among domestic standard nuclear power plants is simulated by ETAP and analyzed the detectability of OPC event by current protection relay. To investigate the countermeasures that are required to stabilize the outputs of the power systems, it is important to quantitatively evaluate the wind power output fluctuations and variations corresponding to the supply-demand balancing controls, such as turbine governor control, load frequency control, and economic-load dispatching control (EDC). With an increasing number of wind power generators being installed, these fluctuations and variations with respect to the rated output capacity will decrease because of the geographical smoothing effects, i.e., the output fluctuations and variations of multiple wind turbines will mutually cancel one another. In this study, we quantitatively evaluate the geographical smoothing effects using the actual high time-resolution wind power output data of several wind farms that is recorded in the supervisory control and data acquisition systems of the Tohoku and Kyushu power systems in Japan. Further, we evaluate the smoothing effects pertaining to the introduced wind power using various approximation curves, and it is observed that the exponential parts of the approximation curves depend on the region and cycles. Using these exponential parts, we observe that perfect smoothing effects were obtained during the shorter periods of cycles. The smoothing effects of the fluctuations in the EDC domain are observed to be small, especially in the Tohoku region.","PeriodicalId":247617,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Smart Grid and Clean Energy","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122506823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
