Pumpyanskii’s report on the theoretical inconsistency of Marxism in October 1924 detected at the same time the possibility of applying the sociological method in aesthetics, as M.M. Bakhtin’s remark shows. In his writings of the sociological period M.M. Bakhtin continued the analysis of the aesthetical problems posed in his early essay of the 1924, for example, the problem of interaction of the “author”, “hero” and “listener” in the artistic text. The specific thematic complexes originating from the essay of the 1924 form the unity of M.M. Bakhtin’s works of the 1920th, published both under his name and the names of his friends.","PeriodicalId":246030,"journal":{"name":"Literaturovedcheskii Zhurnal","volume":"66 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120927607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The travel genre focused on the contrast between us and them. Two outstading Russian pieces of this genre (published almost simultaneously) contributed to the polemics of westernizers and slavophiles reflecting the inconsistencies of their positions. “Letters on Spain” by V.P. Botkin follows the idea, similar to slavophiles’, of the need to preserve the national identity under the conditions of modern (mid 19th century) globalization affecting the suburbs of the European world. The surprising unanimity shown by westernizers and slavophiles (essentialists) in their assessment of Monk Parfeny’s “Narrative of Travels.” gives us the opportunity to a have a new look at the essence of their debates regarding the future development of Russia and Russian literature (religious and national-historical aspects).","PeriodicalId":246030,"journal":{"name":"Literaturovedcheskii Zhurnal","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133822820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A particular attention is given to analysis of the narrator’s “we”, “nous”, “madness” and to the related images of “lie”, “mask”, negative search for Absolute, the embodiment and symbol of which in the novel is death, non-being. In context of lie, the characters of the novel, in-cluding Homais, are not opposed to each other but are the continuation of the narrator’s projections as well as of Flaubert’s personal views on writing. The paper actualises intertextuality of the novel corresponded with images of Saint Anthony, Don Quixote, King Lear, Hamlet and also of quest, fulfilled in a tradition of some apothetical mysticism or gnosticism.","PeriodicalId":246030,"journal":{"name":"Literaturovedcheskii Zhurnal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125429357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
