The deliberate constant offsets were added in front of the compressor to reduce the dynamic range of the input signal. The performance of the proposed schemes were evaluated and compared with the other PAPR techniques by computer simulations. It was shown that the PAPR was effectively reduced using the proposed scheme.","PeriodicalId":245218,"journal":{"name":"The 13th IEEE Workshop on Local and Metropolitan Area Networks, 2004. This paper describes a high-performance, simple, and inexpensive piece of software capable of generating and analyzing Ethernet traffic at high speeds (up to Gbit/s) using the new WinPcap architecture for Windows systems. The algorithm utilizes the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) for synthesis and analysis of fractal traffic based on stationary wavelet transform (SWT) and wavelet packet transform (WPT).","PeriodicalId":245218,"journal":{"name":"The 13th IEEE Workshop on Local and Metropolitan Area Networks, 2004. Conventionally, bandwidth reservation levels are defined using traffic descriptors that remain static over the entire playback duration of the video. Renegotiated constant bit rate (RCBR) mechanism [MSD97] indicated the wastefulness of using static reservation levels and proposed dynamic bandwidth allocation with periodically bandwidth renegotiation during any multimedia transmission sessions. Since this mechanism has been examined only via simulations and theoretical analysis, we have conducted empirical studies on a real test-bed with a VoD server and clients to study its performance. We show that under heavy bandwidth constraints the performance of RCBR is significantly better than traditional CBR in terms of packet loss rate.","PeriodicalId":245218,"journal":{"name":"The 13th IEEE Workshop on Local and Metropolitan Area Networks, 2004. Since video is usually favored by assigning a higher priority (via a class-based scheduling discipline), TCP adapts itself to the fractal properties of the video flow, which is known to have a high level of fractality. This paper sets up a ns-2 simulation for the analysis of the mutual influence of video and data traffic in a DSL link and verifies the fractality propagation phenomenon. This paper also explains the fractality of the data transmitted from one traffic flow to another.","PeriodicalId":245218,"journal":{"name":"The 13th IEEE Workshop on Local and Metropolitan Area Networks, 2004. However, the growth of private line services is dominated by the access (also called \"backhaul\") to packet switches that provides frame relay, ATM, IP and Ethernet services. This paper provides a coherent architectural vision for metro access networks, which the author calls the packet-aware transport network (PATN). The PATN is designed to support the packet and TDM transport within metro areas in a scalable manner, and interfaces the inter-city packet and TDM transport backbone networks. Since the PATN supports the IETF pseudo-wire encapsulation (PWE) schemes for all packet access traffic, it is synergistic with the move towards a converged MPLS-based multi-service packet backbone network.","PeriodicalId":245218,"journal":{"name":"The 13th IEEE Workshop on Local and Metropolitan Area Networks, 2004.
