Understanding how their attitudes toward science and aspirations for science careers formed and developed during secondary educational level is critical to support them live their full potential for science. Numerous studies have been conduced on this topic, however a systematic examination of these studies is lacking. This research is a systematic literature review that aims to select and investigate empirical studies in the ERIC database in the timeframe from 2005 to 2017 to understand age 11-16 ethnic minority students’ attitudes toward science and their aspiration for science careers. A total of 10 literature with empirical studies were identified after screening the literature with specific criteria. The factors that influence ethnic minority students’ attitudes toward science and their aspiration for science careers are presented. The limitations in the previous research are discussed to provide recommendation for future research.","PeriodicalId":245027,"journal":{"name":"The European Journal of Educational Sciences","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126318581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data for the study were collected using a self-designed structured questionnaire administered to 1000 graduands who graduated during the 18 th Congregation of the University. With the retrieval of a usable 601 questionnaires, representing about 60% response rate, the data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25.0 for windows. The results of the study indicate that the graduates were very satisfied with the general conduct of operations in the University and most of them were willing to further their education in the University. They were however, quite dissatisfied with the existing health services and facilities, sporting facilities and the general security situation on the various Campuses of the University. Recommendations and implications for Management of the University have been discussed. The paper contributes to knowledge in the area of quality assurance of higher education services.","PeriodicalId":245027,"journal":{"name":"The European Journal of Educational Sciences","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124430439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"Integrated Case Studies in Teaching Introductory Mathematics Courses at College","authors":"Qingxia Li, Xinyao Yang","doi":"10.19044/ejes.v5no3a1","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.19044/ejes.v5no3a1","url":null,"abstract":"This article discusses how to integrate the directed case method to promote concept, process and application learning in an introductory mathematics course. A pretest and posttest design was applied to measure the gains on mathematics content and attitudes towards mathematics for both control and innovative sections. The innovative sections of Introductory Mathematics did much better on the posttest than the control sections even though the innovative cohort of students scored slightly lower on the pretest than did students in the control sections. As for the Attitude Toward Mathematics Inventory, the Innovation sections had “better” attitudes toward math at posttest when compared to their counterparts in the Control sections. In fact, taken together, the data suggest that a student’s perception of mathematics best aligns with their interest in and enjoyment of mathematics and self-confidence in mathematics at the outset of the course. The small changes noted by use of Case studies-based learning were influenced by the small numbers in this study. However, the trend toward a positive learning impact suggests that additional cases, introduced to address other challenging concepts, may influence learning and the enjoyment of mathematics.","PeriodicalId":245027,"journal":{"name":"The European Journal of Educational Sciences","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122490799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
