Aloe vera, a medicinal plant with diverse pharmacological properties, has shown promise as a potential therapeutic intervention for diabetes. This study aimed to investigate the antihyperglycemic and histological effects of Aloe vera in an alloxan-induced diabetic Wistar rat model. Method: Forty-eight Wistar rats were divided into six groups and treated with different regimens of Aloe vera and metformin, a standard antidiabetic drug. The effects of the treatments on blood glucose levels and histology of the pancreas, liver, and kidney were evaluated. Result: The results of the study revealed that alloxan injection induced hyperglycemia and pathological changes in the pancreas, liver and kidney of Wistar rats. The treatment with 100mg/kg, 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg of Aloe vera significantly reduced blood glucose levels in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, Aloe vera administration preserved the histological integrity of the pancreas, liver, and kidney in diabetic rats. This preservation of organ histology can be attributed to the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-protective properties of Aloe vera. Conclusion: Aloe vera demonstrated antihyperglycemic effects and preserved organ histology in an alloxan-induced diabetic Wistar rat model. The bioactive compounds present in Aloe vera are believed to contribute to these effects. Aloe vera holds potential as an alternative or adjunctive therapy for diabetes management, but its clinical efficacy and safety need to be further explored.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127216027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study evaluated the anti-bacterial potentials of the crab specie (Goniopsis pelli) extract on bordetela pertussis in Swiss mice. Methods: One hundred and twenty-two (122) animals (Swiss mice) were divided into five groups for the curative treatment study. Groups 1 and 2 were the normal and negative controls respectively, while groups 3 and 5 received (300mg/kg and 600mg/kg) of the extract and group 5 received 4000mg/70kg of erythromycin. Blood and kidney samples were collected on 0, 6th, 12th and 18thday for lipid profile analysis and kidney histological examination. Result: The result shows that Animals exposed to B. pertussis inoculum dose (5.0x105cfu/ml) without treatment caused a decrease in the plasma level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) and an increase in the concentration of total cholesterol, triglycerides and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL). However, treatment with Goniopsis pelli extracts reversed the observed effect thereby producing a gradual increase in HDL levels and decrease in triglycerides, cholesterol and LDL levels with no adverse effect on the kidney histology. Conclusion: Goniopsis pelli has the potentials of ameliorating lipid abnormalities and plays a therapeutic role in improving lipid profiles associated with the bacterial infection.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127224609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Panchakarma includes five natural methods of Purification or elimination viz, Vaman, Virechan, Basti, Nasya and Raktamokshana. Panchakarma therapy has promotive, preventive and curative approach towards curing various disorders in Shalakya Tantra. Shalakya Tantra is one of the important aspects of the Ayurveda which deals with the treatment of disease associated with body parts above the neck i.e.,Netra (eye), Karna (ear), Nasika (nose), Kantha (throat), Aushtha (lips), Danta (teeth), Dantamoola (root of teeth), Jihwa (tongue), Taalu (palate), Kantha (throat), Sarvasar (mouth) and Shira or Kapala (head). Four out of five sense organs are included in Shalakya Tantra, so it is very important to protect them from diseases and also maintain their proper functioning. Administration of drugs by the Nasal route is termed as Nasya. Panchakarma is the most essential part of Ayurveda treatments. For administration of medicine, different routes are used in Ayurveda, but to reach the “Shira” (Head) it is difficult with other routes, there by the “Nasya” Karma was developed. The Shalakyatantra, a part of Astanga Ayurved, deals with the disease above throat. It includes the disease and treatment of Netra, Karna, Nasa, Kantha, Mukha, Danta and Siro-Kapala Gata Roga. Sansamana (conservative), Samsodhana (Panchakarma) and the Shastra chikitsa (surgical procedures) are the essential treatment modalities followed to treat a disease. Panchakarma is a branch of Ayurveda, meant for the removal of vitiated Dosha, Mala or toxic part of body and balances Dosha-Dushya through, Vamana, Virechana, Nashya, Basti, Rakta Mokshana etc. In the disease like Abhisyanda, Adhimantha, Timira, Danta Nadi, Upakusha and Dusthapratishyaya, most of the Panchakarma therapies are indicated according to their severity of the disease. In practice the patient, who undergoes Panchakarma or Sodhana Chikitsa shows better result than the patient treated without Sodhanakarma. it is the process, which gets the root cause of the problem, and correct the essential balance of Tridosha in the body. Therefore, increasing and mainstreaming the Panchakarma procedure in Shalakya Tantra will definitely provide an effective and satisfactory outcome in Urdhwajatrugata disorders. Now a days ENT & Ophthalmic diseases are major concerned because patient could not want to go for surgical procedure. Looking towards Ayurved, there are lot of Panchakarma Procedures are advocated for this disorders.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128883189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is mentioned in Charak Samhita by Acharya Charak. Preparation of oleaginous dosage form is described as Sneha Kalpana performed by subjecting Ghrita or oil to a particular pattern of heat treated with Kalka (Paste) of Kutaja, Daruharidra, Pippali, Shunthi, Katuka, Draksha and Kwath (Decoction) of same ingredients. Murchana is a pre procedure to Sneha Kalpana in which Ghrita is treated with few drugs. The main ingredients of Darvyadi Ghrita is Kutaja (Holarrhena Antidysentrica Wall.), Daruharidra (Berberis Aristata DC.), Pippali (Piper Longum Linn.), Shunthi (Zingiber Officinale Rosc.), Katuka (Picrorhiza kurroa Royle ex.Benth), Draksha (Vitis Vinifera Linn.) and Go-Ghrita. In Ayurvedic therapeutics the Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of the drug entirely depends upon Rasa, Virya, Vipaka, Prabhava and balance of Tridosha in the body. The ingredients of Darvyadi Ghrita with their Rasapanchaka, are very much competent to exhibit anti-bacterial and anti-diarrheal property from Ayurvedic perspective.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128336026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is estimated that male factors contribute to 20-70% of cases depending on the latitude. Male reproductive system is highly sensitive to many factors such as environmental, lifestyle as well as numerous physical and chemical factors which leads to infertility. In 40 to 50 % of cases, a semen analysis can rule out the cause of the infertility. Many drugs in the market are available but they might produce various side effects that cannot be ignored. Vajikarana is one among the eight branches of Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, there are various herbal and herbomineral formulations that take place in Vajikarana chikitsa owing to their aphrodisiac property. Gokshuradi Churna is one of such versatile formulation that possesses Vajikarana properties and is used in male infertility. This formulation consists of five herbal ingredients i.e. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris Linn.), Ikshura (Asteracantha longifolia Nees.), Mash (Phaseolus Mungo Linn.), Atmagupta (Mucuna prurita Hook.) & Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus Wild.). It is a polyherbal formulation illustrated in the classical text of Ashtanga Hridaya. Many formulations are available in various texts under the same name Gokshuradi Churna with different contents and different Rogadhikara (indications). It is characterized by biochemical abnormalities that can lead to cardiac, neurological, and renal complications that can be fatal. The purpose of our study is to describe the epidemiology, laboratory profile and the outcome of TLS in order to identify patients at risk, and to implement appropriate prophylactic measures to prevent the clinical repercussions. Material and Methods: This work is a retrospective study of all patients who developed a laboratory TLS in hematologic malignancies according to the classification of Cairo and Bishop over a period of 3 years (from November 2019 to November 2022), and whose data were collected at the adult hematology unit of the Mohammed VI University Hospital of Tangiers. Results: The incidence of TLS among hematologic malignancies identified during this period was 3.7%. The underlying disease was acute leukemia in 10 patients (55.6%) and high-grade lymphoma in eight patients (44.4%). TLS was spontaneous in fifteen cases (83%) and chemotherapy-induced in three cases (17%). All our patients presented with hyperphosphatemia. 94% of cases had hyperuricemia, 44% of cases had hypocalcemia, while 6% of cases had hyperkalemia. Lactate dehydrogenase levels were elevated in all cases. Treatment consisted of hyperhydration and administration of hypouricemic agents in all cases. Three patients received hemodialysis. The outcome was favorable in 83% of cases and 17% of cases died during follow-up. Conclusion: TLS is a severe complication, most often seen in highly proliferative hematologic malignancies. The role of the laboratory remains paramount in the diagnosis of TLS and in the biological monitoring after the implementation of appropriate therapeutic measures.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"3 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128781943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to some estimates, dental and oro-dental conditions are the most prevalent illnesses in the world. One important known predisposing factor for various oral illnesses is poor oral hygiene. Since the beginning of recorded history, mankind has suffered from oral diseases in all of its manifestations. Ancient Chinese, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Arabic, and Indian surgical and medical treatises all discuss mouth illnesses at some point. Many renowned Unani physicians have too mentioned about various oral diseases and unhygienic conditions in their respective books. They have clearly mentioned how to maintain oral health and treat various oral conditions in their respective rich Unani texts. Present review paper is an attempt to throw some light over oral hygiene, its historical background and diseases which occur due to poor oral health light of the Unani literature.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"80 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123338919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
