Mizaj is defined as the admixture of four humours (Akhlat), the quantity and quality of which determines the particular Mizaj of an individual. Every individual has its own unique Mizaj (temperament), hence reacts to various internal and external stimuli viz.air, water, diet, drug, climate, emotions, body reactions etc. differently according to temperament. Hence, Mizaj plays an important role in diagnosis and treatment of any disease. Since, Hypothyroidism is considered as one of the most common endocrine disorders in which patient has somnolence, fatigue, cold intolerance, constipation, loss of libido, gain in weight etc. According to the classical texts of Unani Medicine, it is the concentration, quality and quantity of humours which forms the base and cause of health and disease in an individual. As per Unani doctrine, Mar’d (Disease) is caused either due to Su’ Mizaj (abnormal temperament), Su’tarkib( abnormal composition/structure) or Taffaruk Ittesal (discontinuity).This study was conducted at Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, University of Kashmir ,Srinagar Jammu & Kashmir to evaluate the Mizaj (Temperament) of patients of Hypothyroidism. Out of 60 patients enrolled for the study, 52 (86.6%) were Balghami, 03 (5%) were Damwi, 05 (8.3%) were Safravi and none was of Sawdawi Mizaj. Thus, it was evident that Hypothyroidism is more common in Balghami Mizaj patients.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114767317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a declared global pandemic now. Initially it was observed in the Wuhan province of China, now fastly spreading around the world. The disease has spread globally with more than 8 million confirmed cases and 439,487 deaths as of June 17 th , 2020. Human Coronavirus (HCoV) infection causes respiratory diseases with mild to severe outcomes. In the last 15 years, we have witnessed the emergence of two zoonotic, highly pathogenic HCoVs: Severe Acute Rspiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV). The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhoea and in case of serious illness develop difficulty in breathing. Research is underway to develop effective vaccines and medicines for the disease. But up to now no any effective management had not been declared. In such conditions, we present the measures described in Unani system of medicine for health protection during epidemics. Unani medicine is a traditional system of medicine developed during the middle ages, which employs natural drugs of herbal, animal and mineral origin for treatment. Traditional systems of medicine are being explored for providing preventive, supportive and rehabilitative care to patients in epidemic/pandemic but no direct evidence is available, some uncontrolled studies on traditional medicines suggest that they may have a direct efficacy on the virus. Unani Physicians emphasized in their classical Unani books under the chapter of influenza about pandemic (Nazla Wabai/ Nazla Haar) and epidemic diseases. The objective of this paper is to discuss in detail the Unani concept, management, treatment of epidemics in general and possible management of current Pandemics of COVID-19, its analysis in the light of ancient books in present scenario.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133290362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to evaluate the healing potential of a watery ointment extract from the C. odorata leaves on a model of excision wound in Wistar strain rat. Phytochemical screening was evaluated using standard procedures. A 5% ointment (CO-5%) aqeuous extract with simple excipients (Vaseline and water) was formulated and evaluated for wound healing testing. Chemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, terpenoids and anthraquinones in the extract. The application of the ointment alone to the wounds caused a complete healing in rats on the 16th day. Under similar conditions, the reference ointment allowed complete healing after 21 days. These results confirm the therapeutic efficacy of this plant in traditional wound care.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124278243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Aqueous extracts of GS leaves were prepared, and phytoconstituents were determined using appropriate chemical analytical methods. Animals were divided into five groups: The control group received vehicle (saline water 10ml/rat). Amitriptyline (20mg/kg b.w., IP) was used as the positive control or standard group while the treated rats received GS (100, 200, and 400mg/kg body weight i.p). In the acute treatment study, a single dose was administered 30 min prior to testing. For the chronic treatment study, a single dose was administered daily for 14 days. In the chronic dose study, the behaviors of all groups were assessed for antidepressant activity 30 min after the last treatment dose on the 14 th day. Different standardized depression models were used for behavioral tests to evaluate the antidepressant activity, such as forced swim test (FST), and tail suspension test (TST) test. Results: The preliminary pharmacological screening with acute dosing exhibited the antidepressant activity of GS , but its antidepressant activity was more enhanced after repeated dosing. In comparison with the acute studies, chronic dose studies displayed a significant antidepressant manifestation in the behavioral patterns when compared to the vehicle controls. Conclusion: The results obtained in this study suggest that aqueous extracts of GS may possess an antidepressant activity. Results are represented as mean ±standard error of mean significantly different at *P<0.05 and **P<0.01 compared to vehicle control.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"27 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126653968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its means of treatment is parenteral administration of serum-based antivenins. But due to the limitations of these antivenins, snakebite victims mostly depend on herbal antidotes. Hence, this research was designed to screen the antisnake venom activity of some medicinal plants on mixed venoms of Naja nigricollis, Echis ocellatus and Bitis arietans using Albino rats’ model. Information on the medicinal plants used for the treatment of snakebite envenomation in Zuru Local Government Area was obtained through ethnobotanical survey. Four (4) most cited plants; Parkia biglobosa stem-bark, Calotropis procera root, Sterculia setigera stem-bark and Bauhinia rufescens seed were selected and screened against the venom-induced lethal effect on albino rats. Albino rats of both sexes were randomly divided into six (6) groups of five (5) rats each and used for the antivenom screening of each plant methanol extract. Group 1 received distilled water. Groups 2, 3 and 4 received 0.8mg/kg b. wt. of the venom mixture, but 3 and 4 were treated with 200 and 400 mg/kg b. wt. of an extract respectively. Group 5 received 400mg/kg b. wt. of an extract only. Finally, group 6 received 0.8mg/kg b. wt. of the venom mixture and treated with standard antivenin. The plants’ extracts exhibited antivenom activities with varying degrees of efficacy. At 400mg/kg b. wt. of extract, the recorded mean animal survival times were 18.52 ± 1.50h, 14.04 ± 4.79h, 18.66 ± 4.32h and 5.96 ± 2.79h for C. procera root, P. biglobosa stem-bark, B. rufescens seed and S. setigera stem-bark extracts respectively. Thus, B. rufescens methanol seed extract was the most potent antivenom agent. These findings suggest that, the selected plants have potent antivenom activity on the selected snake venoms and can serve as lead for the development of safe, readily available and affordable antivenoms that can substitute the use of serum-based antivenins.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123787153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chitta is manas i.e. mind. Sthirikarana is ‘to stabilize’. Strotra means a ‘holy verse for chanting’. This stotra was selected to observe its efficiency for establishment of mental peace. Vedic Mantra recitation is a task and is difficult to chant. Proper chanting needs a proper guide, that is difficult to be obtained every time. Relatively Laukik Sanskrit Mantra is easier and Guru is available. Status of mind is assessed for various psychological conditions (manovega) like depression, anxiety, anger, etc.; before and after chanting of Chittasthirikaran stotra. The difference between the two readings is accepted as effect of chanting Chittasthirikaran stotra. The investment law approved recently has good statements and rules on the above strategy in particular to pharmacy regulations. Under the pressure of the new privatisation policy, the government introduced radical changes in the pharmacy regulations. To improve the effectiveness of the public pharmacy, resources should be switched towards areas of need, reducing inequalities and promoting better health conditions. Medicines are financed either through cost sharing or full private. The role of the private services is significant. A review of reform of financing medicines in Sudan is given in this study. Also, it highlights the current drug supply system in the public sector, which is currently responsibility of the Central Medical Supplies Public Corporation (CMS). In Sudan, the researchers did not identify any rigorous evaluations or quantitative studies about the impact of drug regulations on the quality of medicines and how to protect public health against counterfeit or low quality medicines, although it is practically possible. However, the regulations must be continually evaluated to ensure the public health is protected against by marketing high quality medicines rather than commercial interests, and the drug companies are held accountable for their conduct.","PeriodicalId":244854,"journal":{"name":"Scholars International Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134013648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
