This technology ensures high data rates, with relatively low error rates, low power consumption and inherent security. Nevertheless FSO links are quite sensitive to atmospheric condition. Fog droplets, but also raindrops and snowflakes, may introduce severe path attenuation which drastically reduces the channel availability. A parametric model to simulate droplets scattering effects over the FSO link in terms of extinction coefficient, albedo factor and asymmetry coefficient as function of the particle water content will be presented. Both single and multiple scattering effects will be shown.","PeriodicalId":244805,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Workshop on Optical Wireless Communications (IWOW)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122721476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed architecture exploits Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) of multiple signals, each of which selected at a specific VLC hot-spot. The multiplexed signals are first distributed via a POF; at the hot-spot a given frequency-band is down-converted to baseband and then transmitted through the optical wireless link. We demonstrated a distribution scenario over 50 m POF/2.5 m VLC link of two hot-spots, each having 200 Mbit/s capacity. We employed optimized discrete multi-tone modulation technique with optimal bit/power loading algorithm, maintaining the bit error ratio within the FEC limit.","PeriodicalId":244805,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Workshop on Optical Wireless Communications (IWOW)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130392307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MODTRAN (MODerate resolution atmospheric TRANsmission) is also used to include the absorption and scattering effects due to atmospheric gases, aerosols and molecules. Increase in the power law of the non-Kolmogorov spectrum is found to decrease the transmittance at all the wavelengths employed in DWDM. Being valid for all the DWDM wavelengths and for all the power law exponent values of non-Kolmogorov spectra, as the turbulence falls into stronger regimes, the transmittance levels decrease.","PeriodicalId":244805,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Workshop on Optical Wireless Communications (IWOW)","volume":"43 1-2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114013703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider a diffuse link between an emitter placed on a mobile monitored patient and a base station located on the ceiling considering a one-bounce model. Thanks to Ray Propagation Simulator (RaPSor) developed at the Xlim-SIC laboratory, wall, floor and ceiling reflections are taken into account so that the system is more accurately designed, even for low data rates. This is of main concern for healthcare application because it is important to evaluate the required emitter power, related to the power autonomy of monitoring system.","PeriodicalId":244805,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Workshop on Optical Wireless Communications (IWOW)","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116011351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The major advantage of the model is that leads to closed-form and mathematically-tractable expressions for the fundamental channel statistics of an unbounded optical wavefront under all turbulent regimes. Furthermore, it unifies most of the proposed statistical models for the irradiance fluctuations derived in the bibliography providing, in addition, an excellent agreement with published plane wave and spherical wave simulation data over a wide range of turbulence conditions (weak to strong).","PeriodicalId":244805,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Workshop on Optical Wireless Communications (IWOW)","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124970764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
