In order to enable decoding of multiple users at the receiver, we employ multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) in which distinct users are assigned distinct codes for transmission. The envelope-tracking (ET) system includes a discrete linear op-amp and a switching power converter. The RF Class E amplifier was fabricated in a 0.18 /spl mu/m BiCMOS SiGe technology. The RF Class E power amplifier achieved a collector efficiency (CE) of 62.7% and the overall power added efficiency (PAE) of the ET system is 44.4% at an output power of 20.4 dBm for an 881 MHz EDGE modulated signal. A discrete envelope switching amplifier achieved 82.8% efficiency while driving the Class E PA voltage supply. Two distinct filters, one covering 176 MHz-216 MHz and the other covering 476 MHz-698 MHz is described. The filters were implemented using commercially available surface mount components on an FR-4 printed circuit board. The purpose of the bandpass filters is to provide selectivity in the front-end and provide protection from interferers. In the transmitter side, the base-band data directly modulate a four stage differential ring VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) with an FSK tone frequency of 80 kHz fitting into one of ten 300-kHz channels allocated at the new 402-405 MHz MICS (medical implant communication services) band. The designs are implemented in a 0.18-/spl mu/m CMOS process. Then, the effect of mismatch on the amplitude and quadrature phase accuracy is discussed. In particular, we focus on the mismatch between the negative resistance (Rneg) and quadrature resistance (R quad) of the two VCOs. By considering a first order linear model of the QVCO, it is shown that a mismatch in Rneg generates an imbalance in the quadrature phase but preserves the amplitude accuracy, whereas a mismatch in Rquad leads to both a relative amplitude error and phase imbalance. Furthermore, the mismatch leads to an effective coupling transconductance GMceff that in turn causes a deviation in the steady state oscillation frequency. After functional specification and software-hardware partitioning processes, we designed a sub-part of MAC that requires real-time operations by SystemC, and the other sub-part assumed to be mostly software-executable by SDL. Those two MAC entities are simultaneously simulated on our proposed simulation platform for the purpose of protocol conformance testing and performance evaluation. Due to the significant spread of singular values across the spatial streams, it is beneficial to load each stream with a different number of codebits. In the so called vertically encoded MIMO system, all spatial channels share one channel encoder, and a codebit parser distributes the contiguous codebits into multiple spatial channels, where the ABL scheme determines the load per channel. It is desirable that the codebits in each spatial channel are evenly spaced in the original codeword in order to maximize spatial diversity. The existing block codebit parser (2002) assigns the continuous blocks of codebits to each stream respectively. In the paper, we derive a few codebit parsers, including the optimal one. A pulse synthesis algorithm was developed for DTFs. A prototype was fabricated using a standard 0.18 /spl mu/ digital CMOS technology. Two basic problems are investigated experimentally using short UWB radio pulses (nanosecond duration). Temporal focusing and SNR increase with the number of antennas are verified.
