This originates in prehistory, but today, new additive manufacturing technologies can contribute to the production of moulds, tools, or accessories, which can be used in other traditional manufacturing processes. Manufacturing such moulds for thermoforming is a challenging technical problem due to the multitude of equipment, materials, design, and process constraints that must be considered. To identify and organize the large amount of information, it is imperative to implement a method based on stimulating technical creativity. Following the application of the 3-level idea diagram method, the material resources susceptible to experimental testing are established and include equipment, software, materials, tools, and accessories. A simple equipment was designed and materialized for studying thermal transfer in polylactic acid rods made by 3D printing. The results of some experimental tests carried out using the equipment were mathematically processed, determining empirical mathematical models of the second-degree polygon type and a power-type function. The analysis of the empirical mathematical models and the graphic representations made on their basis revealed a decrease in temperature with the increase of the distance from the heated end of the cylindrical rod type test sample and the increase in temperature along the rod until the state of thermal equilibrium is reached.","PeriodicalId":244525,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Iași. This model has been completed with a graphic interface, through which a whole series of constructive and functional parameters can be modified, such as: the radius of the crank, the length of the connecting rod, the mass of the connecting rod, the mass of the pulley, the transfer ratio between the electric motor and the flywheel, the moment of inertia of the flywheel, the parameters of the electric motor, the moment of friction, the force of friction, the initial force of deformation, the final force of deformation, the crank angle corresponding to the beginning of the plastic deformation operation, the thickness of the semi-finished product, the sampling frequency, etc. Also, the graphic interface allows the simulation of two types of operating regimes (single strokes and repeated strokes) as well as two variants of numerical integration (Simpson and Runge-Kutta).","PeriodicalId":244525,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Iași. A 2D rotor (or cycloidal disc) profile (as a complex closed curve) can be defined (as an alternative to the strictly mathematical definition) as the internal bordered envelope of the family of 2D profiles of the stator (or ring gear) obtained with the stator movable (for at least a completely rotation) around the fixed rotor (or planetary gear) by respecting the gearing conditions inside a cycloidal reducer. The more 2D profiles of the stator are used the more accurate definition of 2D rotor profile is obtained. The finding of x, and y-coordinates of the points involved in the description of this 2D rotor profile is by far the most complicated problem to solve in the manufacturing of this type of reducer, the behavior and performances of the cycloidal reducer drastically depends by the accuracy of this profile. Chitariu, Florin Chifan","doi":"10.2478/bipcm-2022-0035","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2478/bipcm-2022-0035","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract The paper consists in analyzing some of the researches on specialized literature regarding to gripping systems and proposing a new solution for a gripping mechanism that can fulfill the increasing requirements imposed by the flexible manufacturing systems regarding the orientation and positioning of parts with variable shape and dimensions. Some general consideration on state of the art in the field of gripping mechanism are presented and main development direction are indicated. The second part of the paper contains in the development of new gripper constructive solution. From the literature analysis the main requirement for a gripping system is the multi-tasking ability. The proposed designed solution uses four parallel open-close jaws/fingers controlled by two electric motors. The actuation of the jaws/fingers for clamping the part is accomplished by a primary motor. The main contribution/improvement refers to the introducing of a second/supplementary motor that is used for the movement of the position of the jaws in order to transform the gripper clamping system from a four-jaw construction to a two-jaw gripper construction and vice versa, thus increasing range of clamped parts.","PeriodicalId":244525,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Iași. The usual design uses rotary pins as teeth on the ring gear (or stator as well) and an appropriate conjugate profile on the cycloidal disc (or rotor as well). This study proposes a new approach: to use rotary cylindrical pins as teeth on the rotor and an appropriate conjugate profile on the ring gear (or cycloidal ring) according with the rules of gearing. The main achievements of this paper focus on the synthesis of 2D internal profile of the cycloidal ring in transverse section. Some theoretical achievements and computer aided simulation results are briefly presented in this paper. This 2D profile is useful mainly for cycloidal reducer computer aided simulation and optimization but also for manufacturing purposes (by contour milling on CNC machines).","PeriodicalId":244525,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin of the Polytechnic Institute of Iași.
