Nowadays by the help of recent technological advances and developments in the area of power electronics and motor control the fault tolerant electrical machine and drive concept is at a level where it begun to be feasible to be used in practice [1]. Therefore any new results could be of real interest for all the specialists working in these fields. In the paper a simplified power converter topology is proposed for a nine-phase fault-tolerant permanent magnet synchronous machine. By coupled Flux 2D and Simulink transient simulations the behaviour of the drive system under different winding fault conditions is studied. It is proved that using the simplified converter topology near the same torque development capability of the machine in faulty states can be assured. Short discussion on making the converter also fault-tolerant is included in the paper, too.","PeriodicalId":244464,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th International Conference on Optimization of Electrical and Electronic Equipment","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129738286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MG contains two generators, a synchronous generator, an induction one, and loads. Frequency stabilization is obtained by using a hybrid solution with a dump load (DL) and an energy storage system (ESS) based on a battery bank. The generators available power and the loads demand gives the power unbalance, which lead to frequency deviation. To reestablish the initial power balance a power sharing algorithm it is used between DL and ESS. The system dynamic behavior is studied, under variable load and variable generated power. Also, the ESS battery state of charge is taken into account. Simulation of the system using Matlab/Simulink software was performed to illustrate the advantages and limitations of this control strategy.","PeriodicalId":244464,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th International Conference on Optimization of Electrical and Electronic Equipment","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130521946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is expected that the power capacity has to be doubled within 20 years. The production, distribution and use of energy should be as efficient as possible and incentives to save energy at the end-user should also be set up. Deregulation of energy has in the past lowered the investment in larger power plants, which means the need for new electrical power sources will be high in the near future. Two major technologies will play important roles to solve the future problems. One is to change the electrical power production sources from the conventional, fossil (and short term) based energy sources to renewable energy resources. The other is to use high efficient power electronics in power generation, power transmission/distribution and end-user application. This paper discuss the most emerging renewable energy sources, wind energy, which by means of power electronics are changing from being a minor energy source to be acting as an important power source in the energy system. Power electronics is the enabling technology and the presentation will cover the development in wind turbine technology from kW to MW, discuss which power electronic solutions are most feasible and used today.","PeriodicalId":244464,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th International Conference on Optimization of Electrical and Electronic Equipment","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123865891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The evaluation of the link quality is possible with the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and the link quality indicator (LQI). The link quality measurements were performed in different scenarios between two ZigBee devices. Depending on the results, the network was optimized in order to have efficient data propagation. LQI measurements can also be used for determining the distance between nodes, and the algorithms described in the paper can determine the coordinates of a central node when the neighbour nodes' position is known. It is possible to estimate the position of an important node in real-time, and therefore address the security concerns within a wireless network.","PeriodicalId":244464,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th International Conference on Optimization of Electrical and Electronic Equipment","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126229362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
