These sensors have two inductors that vary in a push-pull manner with-respect-to the measurand. It is known that a small linear range can be obtained by taking the difference between the values of the sensor inductances. The proposed digital readout circuits accept the sensor inductances having non-linear characteristics, and provide a linear digital output directly proportional to the measurand, which is linear for the entire sensor range. The converters work on the principle of voltage-to-time based conversion and possess many advantages. Prototypes have been built and tested with a typical differential inductive sensor arrangement with a nominal value of 10mH. Output was linear for the full range of input and the worst-case error was less than 0.2%.","PeriodicalId":244262,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE First International Conference on Control, Measurement and Instrumentation (CMI)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114940749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This skill learning approach is based on Symbolic Encoding. Even though most of the imitation learning approaches focus on trajectory encoding, symbolic encoding offers a more concise representation of a skill which is easily transferable to different forms of embodiments. The paper also presents a novel, fast and accurate hand-camera calibration technique along with a parametrized Inverse Kinematic solution for the redundant manipulator.","PeriodicalId":244262,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE First International Conference on Control, Measurement and Instrumentation (CMI)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128888111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing binary-search based ADC design requires 2N-1 comparators for an N-bit ADC while the proposed design requires only N comparators. This ADC uses a switching network made up of static logic gates and MOSFET switches for predicting the reference voltage for the comparators. The proof-of-concept 3-bit ADC only consists of a reference ladder, 3 comparators, 6 n-MOSFET switches and 6 logic gates. The proposed 3-bit prototype was simulated using TINA-TI simulation software. The functionality of the ADC was ensured by giving sine and ramp input to the ADC. Also, the settling time of the ADC for different input voltage ranges was found out by giving step input to the ADC.","PeriodicalId":244262,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE First International Conference on Control, Measurement and Instrumentation (CMI)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134210179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Shome, Chandan Har","doi":"10.1109/CMI.2016.7413773","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CMI.2016.7413773","url":null,"abstract":"Human friendly robots and devices like exoskeletons, active prostheses etc. are required to be compliant in their actuation system; here the transmissions are deliberately made flexible. This flexibility demands variability in order to improve upon the transmission bandwidth, as well as meeting specific requirements in task execution. Pneumatic Muscle Actuator (PMA) has an inherent ability to vary impedance of transmission in its actuation with varying pressure, resembling a biological muscle, when implemented in agonist-antagonistic arrangement. Regulation and control for stiffness/impedance requires knowledge of the impedance values; however, there is no transducer available to measure the impedance components. In this paper the issue of online estimation of impedance components of a pneumatic muscle actuator is addressed in terms of effective inertia, damping rate and stiffness of the elastic muscle. Devising a model free estimator is indeed difficult, especially in steady state. The present approach considers a physical model of the Pneumatic Artificial Muscle (PAM), suitable for practical implementation and in the same time detailed enough representing, as far as possible, all important behaviors (relating muscle force with displacement/contraction, muscle velocity and muscle pressure). Sensors with noise and varying behavior of passive components with time (and environment) can provide only approximate calibration with inconsistent and not-so-stable results. Online estimation becomes necessary here. This article proposes a first order Extended Kalman Filtering technique to estimate online the impedance parameters. Experimental results are presented to validate the proposed estimation algorithm.","PeriodicalId":244262,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE First International Conference on Control, Measurement and Instrumentation (CMI)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125863807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The best sensing conditions were determined by studying the sensors under different operating temperatures with different vanadium loading (in the form of V<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub>), in presence of 60-65% ambient humidity. 0.50 wt% V<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub> loaded SnO<sub>2</sub> exhibits the best sensitivity against butane at 4500C operating temperature, without using any expensive nobel metal catalyst. The same material exhibited a switching in selective sensing of SO<sub>2</sub> at a different V<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub> concentration (0.15 wt%), operated at lower temperature (3500C). The nanocrystalline powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and current-voltage (I/V) measurement studies. The morphology of V<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub>-doped SnO<sub>2</sub> nanocrystalline powder is elongated spherical in shape and the distribution of particle size is uniform, having the range of 70-90 nm, as confirmed by SEM and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) observations.","PeriodicalId":244262,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE First International Conference on Control, Measurement and Instrumentation (CMI)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125162443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Turbulence manifests in increased Bit Error Rate (BER) leading to degradation in the link performance. Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) technique is used to mitigate this effect. This technique is an adaptive transmission scheme wherein transmission parameters such as modulation scheme, code rate, etc., are adjusted based on Channel State Information (CSI). In this paper, we have considered lognormal channel model in low turbulence conditions. Three adaptive transmission schemes viz., variable data rate, variable modulation schemes and variable coding rate are considered. The entire work has been carried out in MATLAB. We see improvement in FSO link performance in terms of average transmitted data rate when variable data rate adaptation scheme is used. Improvement in spectral efficiency is observed when the other two adaptation schemes are used. Design of adaptive transmitter for all the three schemes is presented and data rate of RF feedback channel is determined.","PeriodicalId":244262,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE First International Conference on Control, Measurement and Instrumentation (CMI)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115515030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cardiac signals such as electrocardiogram (ECG) and heart rate variability (HRV) are particularly important, but conventional measurement techniques require wired devices and static subjects. These limitations preclude application of these devices from various dynamic scenarios. Recently, however, developments in computer vision have shown that some physiological variables related to the heart can be measured in a nonintrusive way. \"Video magnification\" (VidMag) is one such technique, and it has been used to measure blood volume pulse (BVP) from face video data in laboratory settings. This paper discusses the readiness of VidMag for psychophysiological assessment more generally. The approach is to assess beat-by-beat comparison of VidMag with BVP signals extracted from medical devices. In addition, a novel skin detection algorithm, which does not use color cues, has been proposed in this paper as a preprocessing step to support VidMag. The paper also presents a systematic post-processing strategy using Savitzky-Golay filtering to improve the accuracy of the raw output from the video magnification algorithm.","PeriodicalId":244262,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE First International Conference on Control, Measurement and Instrumentation (CMI)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121756862","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
