The total energy includes heating, lighting, and equipment energy requirements. The thermal energy demand of the office is 2,240 kWh and the combined lighting and equipment energy is 1,499 kWh. A radiation analysis of the front of the office is carried out to determine which facade received the most solar radiation. The annual global solar radiation received on building facade are 2.6 kWh/m^2, 2.4 kWh/m^2 and 2.3 kWh/m^2 on south, west and east facing facade respectively. Accordingly, the radiation results concluded that the south-facing facade is the most promising facade, followed by the west-facing facade and the east-facing facade. The proposed STC system, designed to maintain hot water temperature of 55°C, and simulations indicate that it would generate 2,440 kilowatt-hours of heating energy per year. This thermal energy would be sufficient to meet the space heating energy needs of the DHI office. Finally, the possibility of installing photovoltaic (PV) panels on the west-facing facade area 26 m^2 was simulated, suggesting the potential of 2,016 kWh of energy, which could replace the total lighting loads of 1,499 kWh currently received from grid supply.","PeriodicalId":244206,"journal":{"name":"Bhutan Journal of Research and Development","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125456609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many construction practitioners employ linear risk management process by applying risk mitigation process as and when risk occur. When project managers and practitioners ignore the application of risk management in real time projects, the implications are almost usually observed in the projects through forced variations, scope change and high uncertainties. In a complex and major civil engineering project, the risk exposure environment changes and shifts constantly due to external factors, changing objectives and other multiple dynamic variables. Quite often, initially planned risk mitigation targets do not generate intended outcome due to inadequate application of risk assessment process. For this reason, the risk and uncertainty management must be continuous, holistic and real time throughout the project life cycle from inception to completion. The ultimate goal of risk management plan is to achieve the project objectives in terms of cost, quality and time. Thus, risk management in complex and major civil engineering projects must be applied in real time, continuously and with utmost importance.","PeriodicalId":244206,"journal":{"name":"Bhutan Journal of Research and Development","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130319780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the conclusions after the study conducted indicates that almost all of the tasks are not fully automated but relies on the drone operator. The role played by the operator is varied depending on the type of tasks performed. Nevertheless, irrespective of the level of involvement of the operator, all the agricultural tasks noted in this study benefited immensely by the involvement of drones. The agricultural characteristics and limitations in Bhutanese context were studied along with the drone obligatory restrictions from the Bhutan Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA). The application areas to agricultural sectors in Bhutan which are legally and economically feasible have been mapped. The study also proposes the drones to be owned and operated by local government officials or community centre heads since farmers are not eligible to own the drones as well as due to small land holdings it is also not feasible.","PeriodicalId":244206,"journal":{"name":"Bhutan Journal of Research and Development","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114738305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In so doing, both qualitative and quantitative methodologies have been applied to collect the relevant data. A survey on twenty-five scholarly participants- teachers from universities and colleges, PhD and Mphil researchers, lawyers– has been conducted with structured questionnaires substantiated by qualitative interview of seven Social Science faculty members – five from Dhaka University and two from two different private Universities of Bangladesh- with semi- structured questionnaires. Moreover, a robust content analysis of the relevant secondary data i.e., books, articles, newspaper reports, have also been analyzed carefully to ensure the reliability and validity of the collected data. This study argues that Bhutan has been a glaring example of how both spiritual and material advancement can be ensured simultaneously that starts flourishing from a harmonious family relationship. And the study findings can be beneficial for the concerned policy makers of Bangladesh to adopt more effective and time-worthy policies to protect the country’s declined social values in line with economic growth taking insights from Bhutan’s GNH in different degrees.","PeriodicalId":244206,"journal":{"name":"Bhutan Journal of Research and Development","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127917243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many institutions and colleges stopped offering in-person instruction in the middle of the academic year. Google Suite (computer software) -based e-learning was introduced as an alternative teaching and assessment method. The purpose of this study was to find out the students’ perceptions towards the quality of online learning during the lockdown due to COVID-19. A sample of 364 students was selected through a simple random sampling technique. The results showed that moderate numbers of students were satisfied in terms of teachers’ methods of online learning, students’ convenience in online learning, and motivation to learn online. A little over 60% of students chose in-person instruction, whereas just about 20.35% preferred online instruction. Considering this, one effective teaching method that can increase student motivation, success, and academic performance is blended learning. The COVID-19 pandemic has given us a great opportunity in the field of education to explore the best model to encounter the next uncertainties.","PeriodicalId":244206,"journal":{"name":"Bhutan Journal of Research and Development","volume":"161 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115578725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It investigated teachers’ experiences of how effectively they implemented the “Education in Emergency” (EiE) Programme initiated by the Ministry of Education, Bhutan through various online tools. This study employed a sequential multi-method paradigm starting with the survey of all teachers (n=35), preceded by in-depth semi-structured interviews, observations, and detailed field notes of teachers (n=6) who were purposefully selected based on the survey findings. The study focused on understanding the teachers’ awareness of the change of curriculum, students’ level of preparedness for online learning, support from various stakeholders; school, parents, and Dzongkhag Education Sector, and perceptions of teachers on the special program “Reaching the Unreached” initiated by the school solely aimed at benefiting the students who were unable to access from the e-learning platforms. The study revealed some of the barriers to effective teaching and learning such as teachers’ inadequate skills in using technological devices, lack of smart phoness or laptops, data packages, and weak internet connectivity. The study also reveals numerous positive findings, such as proactive support from schools in implementing EiE, parents' support for students’ learning and pioneering ”reaching the unreached” initiatives to support students who were not favoured by e-learning platforms. Although the school has showcased exemplary professionalism, additional improvements and modifications are required to successfully navigate the EiE.","PeriodicalId":244206,"journal":{"name":"Bhutan Journal of Research and Development","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129329780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Owing to limited studies on the impacts of social media on students in Bhutan, this study investigates self-esteem and social media addiction, considering the gender of the students in the Zilukha Middle Secondary School, Thimphu, Bhutan. Out of 327 students, data were collected from 180 students (90 males and 90 females) using proportionate random sampling. The t-tests results revealed no significant difference in the social media addiction and self-esteem between male and female students. The study also found a significantly negative correlation between social media addiction and self-esteem of students. As social media addiction and self-esteem scores did not significantly differ between male and female students, parents and teachers need to monitor the use of social media by students irrespective of their gender. Similar studies in other parts of the country, particularly representing students in rural areas, are recommended for new social media addiction and self-esteem insights.","PeriodicalId":244206,"journal":{"name":"Bhutan Journal of Research and Development","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117263687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
