An effective solution was needed to overcome the heavy shortcomings of usual manual measurement practices. This paper describes the research work which led to very reliable rotor eccentricity indicators, based on measurement of internal currents in armature windings with parallel connections. The new approach permits absolute on-line estimations of both static and dynamic rotor shaft misalignments. A fully operative demonstrative system has been developed in the Department's laboratory. A four pole 17kVA generator was used for experiments, with artificial eccentricities produced by an apposite mechanical flange. A virtual instrument was used for data acquisition and processing, so obtaining a real-time estimation of the actual shaft misalignment. Comparison of data obtained from simulations and tests prove the reliability of the proposed methodology.","PeriodicalId":243822,"journal":{"name":"2012 Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126240780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the design phase, EPS reconfiguration elicitation is a complex task due to the high number of failure combinations and to the aeronautical operational constraints, which are to be taken into account. Therefore a knowledge-based system is developed in order to help designers for such a task. It is based on the implementation of two different types of rules: mandatory and know-how rules. EPS connectivity is managed by graph-theory algorithms. The knowledge-based system is capable of producing several reconfiguration solutions. The knowledge-based system functioning is illustrated in detail on a simplified EPS. Results on an actual and modern EPS are also presented.","PeriodicalId":243822,"journal":{"name":"2012 Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126570756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through applying wireless power transfer technology, many defects of original train system (wired power transfer) can be overcome. The optimal design of power supply module for wireless power transfer system is required to make a 100kW power supply. Three approaches for deciding optimal design of power supply module are discussed. Three approaches are on about induced voltage of pick-up modules in various size of power supply, heat generation due to the magnetic flux from primary coil and types of the power supplying cables. Coupled simulations about magnetic-heat transfer and electrical experiments are conducted.","PeriodicalId":243822,"journal":{"name":"2012 Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127944664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the typical applications of solenoid is to operate valves in aircraft engine under harsh environmental conditions and high endurance requirements. Solenoid coil is wound around an insulator (e.g. PTFE / Polyimide/ Nomex etc) which is generally called as bobbin. Classical bobbin construction reduces the available window area for the coil winding. This successively reduces the number of turns that can be accommodated in the reduced window area. MMF (Magneto Motive Force) is the product of the number of turns and the magnitude of the coil current. Due to reduction in the MMF, the magnetic field strength of the solenoid reduces and the force generated by the solenoid gets decreased. The proposed topology of the solenoid eliminates the bobbin for reducing the size of solenoid coils or in other words more window area is available against the classical bobbin designs. The proposed method aims at generating higher force for the constrained size or generating the same force with less size and weight of the solenoid.","PeriodicalId":243822,"journal":{"name":"2012 Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133855084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Without a fixed energy storage system, the energy generated by a breaking vehicle would be simply converted into waste heat by its breaking resistors if no other vehicles are powered simultaneously. Because, as a rule, such synchronization of breaking and powering cannot be coordinated, the energy storage system stores the energy generated during braking and discharges it again when a vehicle is powered. This greatly reduces primary energy demand in traction power substation. However, in addition to this energy saving, the energy storage system contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions. The energy storage system also stabilizes the system voltage. This study introduces technologies of fixed energy storage system applicable for DC electrified railway in Japan, and describes new control method for energy storage system.","PeriodicalId":243822,"journal":{"name":"2012 Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124060592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Strategies like Maximum Torque per Ampere (MTPA) are straightforward to implement and the approach is well suited for field-weakening and full voltage utilization of the inverter. In combination with fast torque control, these properties make the scheme ideal for traction applications, where weight and size constraints require a minimal inverter. The approach has been evaluated on trains in passenger service. These tests have shown that stability and performance are maintained over the entire range of operating conditions.","PeriodicalId":243822,"journal":{"name":"2012 Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway and Ship Propulsion","volume":"1958 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129420261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
