We approach this problem phenomenologically, referring to situations characterised by the lack of a theoretical basis, in which highly qualified individuals participated without awareness of their consequences for the stability and essential values of the state. We view these situations from the standpoint of the prevailing educational system which produced the personnel involved in such operations, and within the context of the need of a political community to maintain the capacity to perceive challenges to its essential values. The results indicate the opportunism of highly educated professionals with respect to theoretical knowledge and the consequent inadequacies in dealing with complex variables which generate challenges for national security. We conclude that in the information age, which is characterised by complexity, speed and large quantities of available information, decision-making related to national security requires more creative thinking, and this entails a need for higher education to focus not merely on problem-solving, but also on the development of cognitive capacity and prudence.","PeriodicalId":243710,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Economic Sciences","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125952955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gusakov","doi":"10.14595/PES/05/002","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.14595/PES/05/002","url":null,"abstract":"The complexity of the goals of regional development and the dynamics of social changes have placed on the agenda the task of expanding the composition of indicators and the set of tools used for analysis. It is necessary to overcome the excessive formalization of regional planning processes. This article provides an overview of publications on the use of data from social networks to analyze the processes important for the development of regions. This review aims to analyze the possibility of using these new tools in the development and monitoring of regional and local development programs. Publications were selected on the basis that they cover the main aspects of such development programs. The main directions for the application of data from social networks in territorial analytics are identified, as well as opportunities for involving members of the public in management processes. New sources of data have made it possible to enrich traditional tools used for the analysis and planning of territorial development. These data can be successfully used to understand the stratification of local communities and identify social problems. Identification of accessibility models and spatio-temporal models of human behavior allows architects and planners to understand how people move within an area, so as to assess the convenience of streets, urban spaces, public transport routes, and routes for pedestrians. The fact that data in social networks are constantly accumulating means that these data sources may be used to monitor and evaluate the success of local and regional socio-economic development projects. Most people use social networks, and this fact facilitates the direct participation of a large number of residents in the process of collecting and updating various data, as well as in development projects.","PeriodicalId":243710,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Economic Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130320939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has led to the creation of the European e-Justice Portal, which is conceived as an electronic one-stop-shop in the area of justice, and which includes access to business registers at both European and national levels. The available data on CSR and free e-access to such data are intended as a valuable contribution to awareness and transparency, and to assist, at the ultimate stakeholder level, the Europe 2020 triad of priorities. The objective of this paper is to assess how this works in reality, and the hypothesis is that the operation of this Portal remains behind expectations. A cross-disciplinary and multi-jurisdictional study is made using both primary data, especially a field search and direct operation testing, and secondary data, especially well-recognized academic sources, and yields interesting results. A holistic meta-analysis is used to process this data and to explore the CSR definition and framework associated with the Portal, and reveals configurational and operational problems that impair effectiveness, efficiency and fairness. Thus, the hypothesis concerning the problematic operation of the Portal is confirmed, and suggestions for corrections and improvements are offered.","PeriodicalId":243710,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Economic Sciences","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129802309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since change is not just desired but required, it becomes clear that change is one of the preconditions for survival in world markets. This paper examines the theory of competitiveness, according to which the competencies of certain countries were not inherited, but created through strategic choices and their implementation, based on knowledge and developed infrastructure, high technology and innovation. In this context, analyses of competitiveness indicators are of great importance. Based on these it is possible to evaluate business success at company and industry level, by comparing numerous macroeconomic (macroeconomic policy, market infrastructure, institutional development) and microeconomic factors (business environment, sophistication of company operations and strategies). For the purposes of this study, we analyzed the World Economic Forum methodology, which contributes to a better understanding of the competitiveness profile of certain countries and how they can improve and specialize. Certain rankings help the creators of economic policy to shape and evaluate national results in terms of competitiveness, which further assists firms in improving their competitiveness in relation to other firms. The creation of a highly competitive economy is a complex and continuous task for any country that wishes to develop, and in that context the role of the state in creating an environment that will stimulate competitiveness is paramount, as this is a way to mitigate the effects of recession and determine the speed of economic recovery.","PeriodicalId":243710,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Economic Sciences","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121197782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a great diversity of educational fields in each member state at all three levels of higher education. This diversity is a positive phenomenon, because it favours the formation of a creative economy. The multiplicity of disciplines enables the creation of innovations that use knowledge from many, seemingly quite distant fields. There are a number of factors influencing a given person’s choice of one such field of education over another. In this article, it is examined whether gender is one of the important factors. In each of the European Union countries, ten fields and all three levels of higher education are analysed. Stojanović","doi":"10.14595/PES/05/007","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.14595/PES/05/007","url":null,"abstract":"The issue of employee motivation is related to successful business management. Human resources represent a great potential, because they have knowledge, inventiveness and intelligence. However, a large part of human potential is not used to a sufficient degree, which leads to unused resources and to dissatisfaction and lack of motivation on the part of employees. Good motivation is part of leadership; a manager knows how to motivate and create good relationships. Business entities are part of society, and to achieve economic goals, they must take into account the impact that they have on society and on the human resources of an organization. This paper explains contemporary motivational theories, with the aim of enabling successful business in banking sector. Managers of banks can make decisions about the most significant factors that improve employee motivation. Integrated knowledge, accumulated experience, and employee satisfaction are the main factors behind successful operations in all organizations, and in particular in the banking sector. These factors form a basis for the successful management strategy of any company. The paper presents an overview of motivation in countries whose organizational culture differs with respect to the scope of operations and employees in the banking sector. The first part of the paper gives an overview of motivational theories based on the presentation and comparison of motivational factors in Pakistan, South Asian countries, and Croatia and Serbia. In evaluating motivation for ranking purposes a comparison method was applied, with the use of arithmetic means, while the data obtained from respondents’ questionnaires were processed using the SPSS 22 statistical method. The authors aimed to make a modest contribution in assessing motivational factors and to point to their significance in the banking sector. Better motivated employees in the banking sector are more efficient in carrying out business tasks.","PeriodicalId":243710,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Economic Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130296208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One such area is the care of the environment through the recycling of waste. This paper presents an example of ecological innovation in the waste management sector as part of the implementation of a local strategy for sustainable development. Such projects not only bring economic and social benefits for the inhabitants of a given region, but also primarily serve the needs of the natural environment. The study contains both theoretical and empirical considerations, and uses elements of critical literature analysis, meta-analysis, deduction and case study analysis. Set against a review of the subject literature, the paper contains a description of a specific solution regarding the treatment of municipal waste – Poznan’s Thermal Municipal Waste Treatment Installation. The study shows that the model of cooperation between business and local government through public-private partnership is a response to changes in legislation and meets the objectives of local policy for sustainable development, at the same time making it possible to unify municipal waste management not only within the municipality, but also at regional level.","PeriodicalId":243710,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Economic Sciences","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125597665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Theoretical and applied determinants and methods are presented, as well as the results of application of this theory. Some relationships between the concept of rural development under a multifunctional approach and the theory of eco-development of rural areas are also analyzed. The results of an empirical study concerning the awareness of people living in the Konin region on the sustainable development of rural areas are presented. The research problem was analyzed on the basis of original sources of information, obtained through empirical research carried out in June 2018 using a questionnaire-based personal interview method. The questionnaire was completed by residents of the Konin region. 110 respondents were selected based on the principles of selection of non-random quantities (gender, age) and purposeful selection (students, workers). The results were interpreted using an inductive-deductive method. The scale of the phenomenon and the importance of the causative factors, as given by the respondents, were determined as percentages. Because some of those commenting on the importance of sustainable goals in development were not aware of this concept, let alone its specific ideas, the hierarchy of goals determined by them was based rather on conjecture than on specific beliefs and knowledge. Therefore, the results obtained should be viewed with this reservation. A significant proportion of respondents had a comprehensive understanding of the idea of sustainable development, and combined with socio-economic and environmental objectives, this means that the replies given by respondents provide definitions and opinions on the hierarchy of goals for sustainable development.","PeriodicalId":243710,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Economic Sciences","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123208207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This term encompasses wide ranges of environmentally friendly technologies, projects and industries, as well as verification of the viability of concepts for balancing ecological depreciation in the process of assimilation of carbon in the atmosphere. Essentially, green financing is part of the green carbon issue because it connects the financial industry, environmental improvement and economic growth, which is essential for long-term sustainable development. As this is an innovative concept, the paper pays special attention to the development of market mechanisms and policy formulation for green financing. By revealing the internal contradictions between green financing and environmental protection in achieving ecological balance and sustainable economic growth, the paper proposes some options for the mobilization of private capital for green investments that can be applied in Serbia. The paper also compares two countries, Indonesia and Serbia, with regard to the green financing sector. The authors highlight differences between the economies of Indonesia, as a representative of ASEAN, and Serbia, demonstrating that Indonesia is far ahead of Serbia in terms of the concepts of green financing and sustainable development.","PeriodicalId":243710,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Economic Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128866158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
