The ideal gain of the inverter is minus infinity to plus infinity. Converter is derived from intelligent circuit connections of Ćuk converter and Watkins-Johnson converter. The control to output transfer function contains right half plane (RHP) zeros, which leads to a limited closed loop bandwidth. This limitation is overcame by current programmed controller. The proposed multilevel variable output voltage AC/DC Converter is composed of two converter sections. One as the input section is a high efficiency phase-shifted PWM full bridge DC-DC converter to get multiport power sources. The other as the output section is composed of two flying-capacitor 3-level DC-DC converters and a diode bridge circuit to get fast-response and multilevel variable output voltage for an envelope amplifier. The paper suggests the detailed circuit topology and design guideline of multilevel variable output voltage AC/DC converter. It also proposes the power balanced control method between 3-level converters and the voltage balanced algorithm for flying capacitors. Its characteristics should be verified by the detailed simulation results. It is anticipated that the proposed converter will work very well for power amplifiers used in underwater acoustic sensors.","PeriodicalId":240337,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"349 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114741690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to other types of power converters, these ac-link converters are compact in size, reliable, efficient, and they guaranty longer life time and bidirectional power flow. In addition to that, they can be used for dc/ac, ac/dc, ac/ac, or dc/dc applications with multi-phase and/or multi-port operation. Furthermore, they provide buck/boost operations. Due to these merits, this paper will provide an up-to-date review of such converters. Purpose: This contribution analyzes which performance measurement methods are used in industrial practice. The focus lies on methods used for the evaluation of investments (such as efficiency improvement programs) in engineering departments. Approach: The contribution is based on an empirical study. 56 persons working in project business were asked via a web-based questionnaire. Findings: Although the meaningfulness of holistic performance measurement is undisputed, traditional non-holistic methods prevail in industrial practice. Most engineering organizations use cost-oriented methods which do not consider the influence of engineering in the company in an adequate way. However, holistic and multi-dimensional approaches for performance measurement in engineering have gained a foothold in industrial practice. Originality: Performance measurement in engineering has been topic of very few publications yet, while studies focusing on R&D departments are numerous. Since R&D and engineering functions share some characteristics, research on R&D is also considered in this contribution.","PeriodicalId":240337,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115639940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to the conventional boost ac-dc rectifier, the proposed bridgeless ac-dc rectifier has advantages of reduced conduction losses, minimized device components, and improved power factor. Compared to the conventional phase-shift modulated (PSM) dc-dc converter, the proposed dc-dc converter has advantages of reduced switching losses, minimized circulating current, and improved power efficiency. As a result, the proposed system has improves the power efficiency when compared to the conventional system. All control functions are implemented in software with a singlechip microcontroller. For the control of cell capacitor voltage of each cell, it is necessary to know the state of the voltage and it is generally measured by voltage sensors. And, to sample the voltage of each cell at every sampling instant, the associated measurement and communication hardware and signal processing time would be prohibitive as the number of cells in each arm of MMC for HVDC application is above several hundreds. This paper presents an estimation of the cell capacitor voltages using submodule grouping and adaptive observer for estimating cell capacitance in order to reduce real time voltage measurement burdens. The simulation and experimental results verify that the proposed method can guarantees the stable operation of MMC with reduced number of the cell voltage sampling.","PeriodicalId":240337,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129924813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the conventional 12/14 BLSRM, there is only a small conduction range for positive torque generation. In order to solve this problem, shifting stator pole technology is applied in the proposed structure. It is good for increasing the output torque and simplifying the control circuit. However, the proposed motor becomes a two-phase motor. As a result, the motor can't realize self-starting at some rotor positions due to torque dead point or dead zone. Therefore, in this paper, self-starting analysis of the proposed motor is firstly analyzed. A step-airgap starting method is applied to implement self-starting at all rotor positions. Furthermore, the effect of starting method on the motor performance such as torque and suspending force is also investigated by means of finite element analysis (FEA). Finally, surface response method and genetic algorithm are employed to optimize structure parameter to improve the motor performance.","PeriodicalId":240337,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125425494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
