This work aims to analyze how the Brazilian government has been adapting its institutional structure, technology and funding to provide universal access to electricity in remote areas. According to official information, this initiative has proven effective in its first phase, which was developed by the extension of conventional network. However, the study concludes that the program is currently not converges to full compliance with the access to electricity in remote areas in the Amazon and three main challenges were identified. There is a need for i) adjustment of current institutional structures; ii) harmonize technologies to the regional context; and iii) use government funds more effectively. The research points out ways and alternatives to what is being done in isolated systems, with the proposal to contribute to the results of the study for the development of public policies, research projects, meet technology providers and communities in general, aimed at achieving access universal to electricity in remote areas in the Amazon.","PeriodicalId":240209,"journal":{"name":"2015 5th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)","volume":"211 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116397501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, special attention should be paid to decision making and expected consequences, since they may preserve the future for decisive time. There are several options available for decision support with different methodologies, some of them attempt to determine the expected events more precisely for clearer vision and more unequivocal decisions. However, the future will never be known exactly, the uncertainty cannot be completely eliminated. Another way is to deal with the uncertainty at a manageable level. This paper evaluates the possible tools of futures studies which can be applied specifically in the energy sector. Through the examples of Hungary and international policies, the most commonly practiced methods are discussed critically and suggestions are made based on the outcomes.","PeriodicalId":240209,"journal":{"name":"2015 5th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130690152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to their bioavailability, eleven nickel compounds were arranged in an order. The shift of nickel concentrations between the fractions while increasing the gas production rate determined by sequential extraction represents assumedly the adsorption process on the cell membrane. We found that the bioavailability of the trace elements in the successively extracted fraction does not decrease continuously, but it has to be evaluated element and time specific. Fermentation substrates used for the experiments were generated in test reactors by depleting only one trace element. Simultaneously the correlation between trace element supply, organic loading rate and trace element concentration was quantified. Furthermore storage stability of the samples, as well as the impact of extraction duration and temperature was examined.","PeriodicalId":240209,"journal":{"name":"2015 5th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130854719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The essential approach to facilitate development of renewable energy sources for electricity (RES-E) is a sound legal, policy, and regulatory framework for encouraging the use of, and overwhelming the barriers to renewable energy. This paper draws on the issue of legal and policy instruments in a specific context in which they facilitate the development of RES-E. Options of legal and policy instruments in this paper provide insights and lessons on how policy instruments are selected, designed and applied. This paper applies analytical, theoretical, doctrinal legal study approaches to analyze an appropriate instrument to deliver solutions for RESE. The analysis sheds new light on the types of instruments selected should be based in objectives, country conditions and energy sector structure. It is argued that the effectiveness of a particular legal and policy instrument for RES-E rely on how well it is designed and enforces.","PeriodicalId":240209,"journal":{"name":"2015 5th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)","volume":"1731 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129445985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Scheffler concentrator is a paraboloidal solar concentrator that works in a two axes track system and, thus, maintains the focal image fixed in its stopped absorber with the variation of the solar declination and azimuth. The image formed by Scheffler concentrator is presented. The reflector geometry is defined by a lateral section of a paraboloid and its reflector has elliptical profile. At equinox, these rim angles are approximately 49.6 and 109.6 degrees from the paraboloid axis. However the tracking system for adjusting to the variation in solar declination causes a change in these rim angles. An analysis of the effect of these variations over the image of the focus, the aperture area to the Sun, and the concentration ratio is performed. The effect of the variations of rim angles was found to cause variations in the size of the focal image of Scheffler reflectors in two axes, and these variations differ among these axes. Were also found that the aperture area can vary twice, and, the concentration ratio, once during the year.","PeriodicalId":240209,"journal":{"name":"2015 5th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115446063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This section especially describes the figures which present the harmonics analysis of the input current and its dependence on the dead time duration. The last part of the paper discusses the Total harmonic distortion of the current and effect of the dead times on this comprehensive indicator of the distortion. The higher dead time duration causes additional harmonics and it mainly affects odd harmonics.","PeriodicalId":240209,"journal":{"name":"2015 5th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117169847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the growing risks of blackouts, the largest country in Latin America must face the challenges arising from the power failure looking for ways to improve the efficiency of energy supply. In recent years, with the improvement of the population's purchasing power, there was a substantial increase in energy demand and the need to seek improvements in energy parameters in the generation and supply. Therefore, the investigation for the energy parameters evaluation methods is imperative as well as the advance of equipment performance. This paper details the development of a smart energy system incorporating features to monitor energy parameters of equipments and perform functions like real time energy monitoring, power factor and alerts against overvoltage and overcurrent. The proposed meter uses the capabilities of ADE7758 IC as well an ATmega16 microcontroller.","PeriodicalId":240209,"journal":{"name":"2015 5th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127251710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are various indices and complex methods available (e.g., the Herfindahl-Hirschmann Index, Shannon-Index, Crisis Capability Index and Supply/Demand Index) to estimate the level of energy security of a country/region, allowing for the content of its primary energy mix, the reliability of its own energy sources, and the dependence on import from other countries. The goal of this study is to evaluate the medium and long-term security of energy supply in Hungary with the Supply/Demand Index (S/D). This indicator takes into account all three parts of the energy system: final energy demand, energy conversion and transport and primary energy supply. Throughout the study, the assessment and analysis of these factors and their components is presented in the case of Hungary, finally providing a proper value that describes the status of its energy security, highlighting its weak points. Moreover, a comparison is made with the most recent study for Hungary that was carried out in 2006, so that changes and differences in its former and current energy system are more visible.","PeriodicalId":240209,"journal":{"name":"2015 5th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125115496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic requirement of repositories for radioactive waste is the prevention of the escape of radionuclides into the biosphere. The safe disposal of spent nuclear fuel in deep geological repositories (DGR) is based on the so-called multi-barrier concept the first barrier of which consists of the waste package; the second barrier is made up of impermeable clay and the third is provided by the surrounding stable rock environment at a depth of 500m below the earth's surface. DGRs are considered nuclear facilities and will feature both above-ground and underground premises. Hence such facilities are subject to the relevant requirements as set out in nuclear and mining legislation, underground construction engineering regulations and environmental considerations. The Czech Radioactive Waste Repository Authority (SURAO) is responsible for coordinating the huge range of activities which will eventually lead to the commissioning of the Czech DGR. Two variants concerning the technical design of the DGR, at different stages of development, are currently being considered.","PeriodicalId":240209,"journal":{"name":"2015 5th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126657048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
