This clock alarm will ring the user at the most physiological opportune moment in a predefined time frame. We rely on a wearable biosensor collecting various signals (ECG, movement, temperature) and on algorithms that dynamically mine into the sequences of heterogeneous data to identify sleep cycles. The system will be less intrusive and more accurate than others. This paper presents the underlying domains, the method and the experiments we are implementing.","PeriodicalId":239987,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Smart Sensing","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122290845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method utilizes several reverse geocoding APIs, such as Foursquare and Google, and selects the most probable name for each cluster. In addition, the author tries to figure out the adequate dataset size when the proposed name assign method is used. Because the proposed name assign method is not affected by the size of dataset. By using the collected data, more than 4 million geo-tagged photos of 5 cities from Flickr, the author confirmed that the proposed method can assign more proper name for the clustering results compared with a conventional tag-based name assign method, even if the size of dataset is small.","PeriodicalId":239987,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Smart Sensing","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123341625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach replaces the dependence of stored questions/ answers pair that encourage memory skills not learning skills. The limitation of how to accept these questions contents is raised up. In this paper we propose a question acceptance method based on two measures that weight the question's score, which are difficulty and goodness factors. Since the formalization of assessment and goodness which we made in this paper are recursive, we also propose a heuristic algorithm for iteratively calculating both values. Moreover, we show simulation result to confirm that the algorithm converges, and that it reflects the difficulty and the goodness factors.","PeriodicalId":239987,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Smart Sensing","volume":"42 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126702149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Building on this work, we have explored the use of IoT hubs as easy-to-use aggregators and focal points for access to emerging data infrastructures of smart cities. A hub can support not only access to infrastructure data, but also participatory sensing and crowd sourced data where city employees and citizens contribute directly to the data infrastructure of a city. In this way, smart cities can realize a variety of new applications created by local entrepreneurs and community groups without the need for ongoing coordination by governments. In this paper, we outline the growing interest in a hub-centric approach to the IoT and discuss our own experiences in building an IoT hub for two Smart City projects, one in the UK and the other in Canada.","PeriodicalId":239987,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Smart Sensing","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123361016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we have focused on providing effective, individualized and practical monitoring to provide the information farmers need, and developed an Open Field Server that enables easy and flexible monitoring of various types of agricultural fields and contexts. Then, we deployed the Open Field Server in five different practical agricultural applications: weather monitoring for growth prediction, insect counting for pest damage forecasting, crop growth monitoring with image data, wild animal surveillance, and farm operation recognition. Through these monitoring experiments, we demonstrated the potential and effectiveness of the system in a wide variety of practical agricultural applications while our experience has pointed to areas in which the system could be further refined to achieve advanced monitoring in a wide variety of situations.","PeriodicalId":239987,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Smart Sensing","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114613366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, UAVs are widely available such that every household can buy an UAV and program it to do a desired task. When a disaster occurs, the UAV of each household should work collaboratively in order to collect information in an efficient manner. In this paper, we propose a planning-based routing protocol for area sensing. The proposed protocol exploits planned route of each node to collect information efficiently.","PeriodicalId":239987,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Smart Sensing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130036320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though we usually use WiFi and Bluetooth, it is still burden task for end-users. Many previous techniques to collaborate devices easily has been also proposed, they are not always best solution in some situations. This paper proposes a new interaction method called Vinteracion, which leverages combination of vibrator and accelerometer to send information from smart device to the other smart device. Vinteraction enables users to use touch interaction like Near Field Communication, which provides easy and intuitive way. We present an algorithm and implementation of vibration-based communication that can be adapted to any combination of smart devices.","PeriodicalId":239987,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Smart Sensing","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116140054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the state-of-art technologies cannot cope with the heterogeneity of event streams and employ historical and future events to predict new situations. Emerging applications like Prosumer-Oriented SmartGrid are spread across multiple domains and require a solution to handle large influx of heterogeneous streams and extract meaningful patterns to devise automated response. In this paper, we present a motivational scenario for such system, discuss some limitations of existing CEP systems and describe our work towards an intelligent semantically enriched CEP (IntelSCEP) system.","PeriodicalId":239987,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Smart Sensing","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114721734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ubiquity of smartphones with embedded sensors can enable attractive sensing applications for collecting and reporting data in participatory sensing environment. However, time and monetary cost hinder people from providing sensing data using their smartphones. Smartphone users will probably not participate in sensing tasks without incentive in the real world. Therefore, we propose SenseUtil which provides participation-aware incentive for crowd sensing environment. The main objective of SenseUtil is to keep moderate payment. SenseUtil applies the concept of microeconomics, where demand and supply determine the value of sensed data. Several factors including sensing frequency, nearby sensing points and users' preference, affect the incentive which dynamically changes over time. We implemented a simulation to study the impact of participation-aware incentive mechanisms. The results demonstrate that historical data of participation activities help decrease payments moderately.","PeriodicalId":239987,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Smart Sensing","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125602932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
