The results imply small differences in the local environments of the moieties involved in the ageing process. Very small changes in the minimum activation energy values have a pronounced effect on the resultant lifetimes of polymer specimens. Changes in the distributions of activation energies with field and temperature can be explained by assuming the ageing process to be one whereby polymer segments on lamella surfaces crystallise to create free volume within the polymer.","PeriodicalId":239585,"journal":{"name":"ICSD'01. The system allows to prevent secondary failures and cost. An offline analysis of the transfer function can give indications on interturn short circuits. The sensitivity is in the range of a few percent of the whole number of windings. This will reduce the maintenance and repair costs. The detection and localisation of partial discharges can be easily carried out with a number of sensors fixed on the surface of the dry type transformer. The measurement of the absolute value of the signals as well as the difference between two adjacent sensor leads to a detection sensitivity in the range of 20 pC even under noisy condition on site which is sufficient for this type of transformers. The introduced system is well tried and installed on different dry type transformers in Germany for more than one and a half year with the intention to increase the reliability and life expectancy of dry type transformers leading to an ensured power distribution.","PeriodicalId":239585,"journal":{"name":"ICSD'01. The charge transfer of the CTL/anode interface under low electric field is greatly influenced by a difference of injection barrier between the localized energy state of the CTL and the work function of the anode. From the results of dark current measurements under high electric field, we conclude the cause to be the transfer of electrons between the HOMO level of the CTL and the valence band of the anode metal. On the other hand, the photothreshold energies for the specimens with anodes of different work function are not affected by electric field. These experimental findings suggest that surface states do not exist on the CTL-3. Moreover, as the LUMO level of the CTL-3 is about 2.7 eV, the photothreshold energy should correspond to the LUMO level of the CTL-3. We conclude that the CTL has two electronic energy levels and that surface states do not exist.","PeriodicalId":239585,"journal":{"name":"ICSD'01. There are many reports that the technique of polymer blend is a useful method to obtain a new insulating material. Until now, several papers have been published on the properties of blended polymer such as the influence of blend on their rheology, morphology and so on. Many papers have also treated the effects of polymer blend on electrical properties. We selected two kinds of LDPE whose densities are 0.9184g/cm/sup 3/ and 0.9228g/cm/sup 3/ and the influence of density-difference on the electrical properties of blended LDPE was studied. By comparing the results of this work with that of previous work, we also investigated the influence of density-difference on blending of LDPEs.","PeriodicalId":239585,"journal":{"name":"ICSD'01. Mostly the conventional EHV and UHV transformers used in the present times employ the oil impregnated paper/pressboard insulation. Recently, a radically new approach to the PD pulse-pattern analysis in oil impregnated pressboard insulation has been established in a relevant study, where an experimental setup was prepared to simulate the commonly encountered wedge shaped oil gaps between the edges of rounded conductors and pressboard spacers inside transformer. The observed PD pulse patterns at different stress levels are classified into five distinct categories with each one having some relevance to the deteriorating condition of insulation health. The interesting results revealed by this study are serving as the underlying principle to carry out an ANN based insulation condition monitoring system. A backpropagation learning model multi-layer perceptron (MLP) paradigm is characterised, which is used as a tool to further automate and achieve a fast classification of an unknown PD pulse pattern to a particular class (without visual or statistical interpretation), thus enabling addressing the insulation health condition or imminent breakdown probabilities. Diverse structures of MLP were implemented using single or double layers with different number of processing elements in each layer and different learning coefficients. The performance is studied and the intricacies involved are addressed in the light of achieving an optimal structural configuration.","PeriodicalId":239585,"journal":{"name":"ICSD'01.
