Janion","doi":"10.31338/2657-599x.ph.2022-1.5","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31338/2657-599x.ph.2022-1.5","url":null,"abstract":"This article discusses Salvino Nucera's (b. 1952) collection of poetry written in Greko (Calabrian Greek, Grecanic) – a language of a small community in Southern Calabria. The article focuses on the poetic strategies of constructing a modern subject in a language that is intrinsically connected to traditional pastoral culture and provides extremely limited vocabulary. The internal differentiation of characteristics introduced in the composer’s figure produces a new type of unity. The Summer at Nohant gains the dimension of Iwaszkiewicz’s “comedy of greatness”. Regarding queer studies, I closely analyse the Love life of the octopus (1965), Sea horse (1934), Acera or the witches dance (1972). These films enable the formulation of the concepts of sex and sexuality that surpass the frames of anthropocentric, reprosexual heterorealism. Three of Iwaszkiewicz's plays, linked by the artist's theme, deserve a special mention: Lato w Nohant, Maskarada and Wesele pana Balzaka. The subject of analysis in this article is the play “Masquerade”. That play focuses on the character of Alexander Pushkin and his complex relationship with the environment, which lead to the self-destruction of the poet, for whom the only salvation is death. The above review of the mythological and historical motifs taken from the Greek or Roman antiquity allows us to conclude, first of all, that they were brought up to date owing to the use of the method we have called a reinterpretation. The common denominator of the terms analyzed here is their semantic components that directly refer to the urban character of the ghetto. The range of meanings of the expressions presented here and their simultaneous urban connotations reflect how Jewish and non-Jewish residents of Warsaw who were directly affected by the city’s division conceptualized the phenomenon of the ghetto. It attempts to answer why writers reach for such a type of heroes and their position in the face of contemporary novel solutions. Maria Komornicka and Fyodor Dostoyevsky see in fallen individuals a source of creative inspiration. The confessional prose of these writers is an attempt to talk about the nihilist heroes who have chosen to live in a place of the metaphorical underground. The underground space becomes a construct of these works, and it is also a symbolic place where individuals desire chaos and darkness. The heroes of Demons and Notes from the Underground escape from where “everyone” lives and go underground, devoting themselves to underground mysticism because only such space protects them against the total collapse of the universe.
