To investigate the risk factors of BRONJ, we conducted a nested case-control study using the Korean National Insurance Health Service-senior cohort. Patients newly diagnosed with BRONJ were selected as the case group, while the control group included patients who were never diagnosed with BRONJ. A risk-set sampling method was used to select the control group using age, sex, the date of the first prescription of bisphosphonate, and follow-up duration. Of the 22,236 subjects, 4,455 were included in the case group. Arthrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, neuropathies, myocardial infarction, renal disease, cancer, liver disease, and tooth extraction were associated with a higher incidence of BRONJ than subjects without such conditions (aOR, 95% CI: 1.58 [1.47-1.71], 1.46 [1.30-1.63], 1.31 [1.20-1.42], 1.23 [1.01-1.49], 1.36 [1.10-1.68], 1.27 [1.12-1.45], 1.63 [1.10-2.43], and 1.64 [1.53-1.76] respectively). In conclusion, of the factors examined, we confirmed that liver disease and tooth extraction were related to an increased risk of BRONJ.","PeriodicalId":23923,"journal":{"name":"Yakhak Hoeji","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84660525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to investigate the current status of pharmacist-run personal broadcast (PRPB) in Korea and explore the underlying perceptions held by pharmacists. YouTube searches made from May to June 2020 and June 2022 were analyzed, followed by a cross-sectional questionnaire survey during July 2020. A 13-item questionnaire was distributed via social media channels to recruit pharmacists using the convenience sampling method. Currently, there are a total of 91 PRPB channels on YouTube, most of which were started after 2019. Of the total 1267 contents, health functional foods (32.4%) and over the counter products (29.3%) had the highest proportions. Among the 218 respondents of the questionnaire survey, 49.1% were working in community pharmacies, and only 2.8% had PRPB experience. They showed higher positive response (42.2%) than negative (33.5%) for the public's exposure to PRPB, and 77.5% of the respondents perceived that social influence of PRPB will grow bigger. Their concerns about PRPB were mainly disclosure of biased information and possibility to lead to product purchase (75.2%) and spreading unverified information (70.2%). In addition, 70.6% of the respondents agreed with the necessity of self-regulation of PRPB by the Korean Pharmaceutical Association and chose the operation of a civil petition counter to report the transmission of false or incorrect information on YouTube (62.8%) and composition of deliberation committee and periodic monitoring (53.2%) as regulatory methods. Perceived necessity of self-regulation was significantly higher in the above-50s age group than in the under-40s group (p<0.05). Pharmacists interested in PRPB should deliver accurate information as drug information providers and abide by professional ethics and public responsibility.","PeriodicalId":23923,"journal":{"name":"Yakhak Hoeji","volume":"107 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83071638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the increasing number of patients suffering from retinal disease, the therapeutic agents are still insufficient. Angelica gigas Nakai extract (AGNEX) containing a high proportion of decursin derivatives has effectively protected cells under oxidative stress or high-level blue light. However, it remains unclear whether it protects retinal cells effectively. Here, we investigated the cytoprotective effect of AGNEX on retinal cells damaged using reactive oxygen species (ROS), which decreased the viability of retinal cells by causing oxidative stress. The cell viability with 600 μM hydrogen peroxide treatment was less than 70% of the normal control group. However, the group treated with 40 μM of AGNEX showed recovery as the normal control group. ROS levels were decreased in the AGNEX treated at 10-20 μM compared with the 600 μM hydrogen peroxide group. The AGNEX treated group was reduced by 20% compared with the untreated control group. This study suggests that AGNEX could prevent damage to blue light-induced retinal cells by oxidative stress relief, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic agent similar to eye care functional foods and as medicine against retinal cell damage.","PeriodicalId":23923,"journal":{"name":"Yakhak Hoeji","volume":"89 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85282198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, pruritus can be a burden for affected people when it becomes severe and chronic, as it deteriorates the quality of life. Dermatological diseases such as atopic dermatitis are mostly recognized as major pruritus-related disorders. Surprisingly, some non-dermatological systemic diseases can also evoke pruritus. In this review, we summarized the underlying causes and mechanisms of three nondermatological pruritus-related systemic diseases: including chronic kidney disease, cholestatic liver disease, and neoplasm. In addition, recent research observations and novel therapeutic strategies are discussed.","PeriodicalId":23923,"journal":{"name":"Yakhak Hoeji","volume":"87 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77150339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Global authorities are committed to supporting developers of potential vaccines and treatments for COVID-19. This study reviewed the guidelines and regulatory procedures instituted by authorities in the United States and Europe to understand the current perspectives of regulatory agencies worldwide and derive implications for public health emergency responses. The Act on Encouragement of Development and Emergency Circulation of Medical Countermeasures for public health emergencies enacted in 2021 established the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) to oversee policies for public health emergencies. In the US, the Public Law 113-5, the PHS Act, the PREP Act and the FD&C Act grant authorities emergency use power with respect to medical countermeasures needed during public health emergencies. The FDA can also facilitate the use of those medical countermeasures. The EMA has accelerated regulatory procedures in place for expediting the development and approval of medicinal products for COVID-19. The EMA’s rapid procedure includes rolling review, accelerated assessment and conditional marketing authorisation. Based on the review of foreign policies and practices regarding public health emergencies, this study showed that the Act on Encouragement of Development and Emergency Circulation of Medical Countermeasures for public health emergency responses has made important advances in public health emergency preparedness and response.","PeriodicalId":23923,"journal":{"name":"Yakhak Hoeji","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83063890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
