Because failure to trip the islanded distributed resource can lead to a number of problems for the resource and the connected load. Therefore, it is important to distinguish islanding and non-islanding situations and block the nuisance tripping effectively. This paper compares two islanding detection methods, during the load variation (non-islanding) and power imbalance closely match (islanding) conditions, the performance of these two methods are investigated.","PeriodicalId":239142,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA)","volume":"6 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113979420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A proto-type is constructed as the digital control dc-dc converter used in the higher voltage direct current (HVDC) system for the green IT. The proto-type uses the digital peak-current-mode control to show a superior transient response. A dc power supply uses 380V in above HVDC system. The transient response of proto-type is indicated in this paper. As a result, the convergence time and undershoot of output voltage are suppressed to one half and one fourth, respectively.","PeriodicalId":239142,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132480482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Solar energy is one form of renewable energy that can be obtained from sun through the form of solar radiation. It is a promising alternative technology that will help to replace petroleum energy sources. However, there are many problems to use such as technology which limits the produced energy. The major problem is the poor efficiency of solar cells and the high cost. Tracking systems are used to maximize electricity output of solar cells. However, this is not a naive task due to the difficulty in finding a general rule that can be used to get optimal output of solar cells for all situations. Moreover, different environments may affect the output of solar cells. Artificial Intelligence could be used to control these parameters for better efficiency. So; the aim of this paper is to introduce an efficient tracking model for the solar panel set that maximizes the energy output of the solar system in the area of Jordan and its neighbors based on practical experiment. The proposed fuzzy model was experimentally evaluated to demonstrate that this system can successfully predict the correct angles with superior results when it provides any average low error rate of 3.55% for predicted tilt angles and 4.1% degrees for predicted orientation angles. This low predicted error indicates that the system can be used efficiently in Jordan and its neighbors to predict the directions to collect the maximum power.","PeriodicalId":239142,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134547224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several devices have been proposed and a few of them have been built full scale and deployed to the ocean. Actually there is not a kind of device that is accepted as the most suitable to exploit wave power. One of the practical problems to be solved in a Wave Energy Converter (WEC) is the durability in the harsh marine environment and the capability to withstand in extreme weather conditions. The durability could be critical if parts of the converter, such as turbine rotors or auxiliary floats, are needed to move or to react while exposed to seawater and spray. One method to solve the problem is to use a WEC composed just by one sealed floating body carrying a gyroscope. The incident waves activate the precession motion of the gyroscope, the output power is produced by damping the precession motion. The whole system operates in the clean environment on the float. In this paper the design and the tests of an ISWEC (Inertial Sea Wave Energy Converter) are presented. The tests are carried out both by a purposely designed test bench in the laboratory and in a wave tank.","PeriodicalId":239142,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133924514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the construction cases are still few, and the design routine of this method based on quantitative evaluation on the reinforcement effect has not been established. In this study, we estimated the shear bond strength and the shear stiffness of a typical FRP grid by direct shear test. Those parameters were input into the numerical tunnel model to quantitatively estimate the displacement control effect of the FRP-PCM method. The experiment and numerical simulation results show that the FRP-PCM method has good reinforcement effect on tunnel lining.","PeriodicalId":239142,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA)","volume":"17 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130989916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, a survey focused on renewable energy sources in Turkey has been presented. The survey has been conducted by researchers working in different scientific disciplines registered to Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. The questionnaires have been prepared in order to explore the opinions of researchers related to renewable energy issues. Turkey has important potential on account of renewable energy sources as well as geographical location has been suitable for the use of those sources simultaneously. However, Turkey has imported more than half part of its energy and depends on foreign energy supplies. This situation demonstrates that there is large difference between estimated renewable energy potential and the amount of renewable energy employed in Turkey. The aim of this article is to reveal the reasons of this gap through the perspective of academics. The results of survey are indicated the attitudes of researchers studying in several fields about the renewable energy issues of Turkey.","PeriodicalId":239142,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133602588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PMSG is connected to the grid through a switch mode rectifier and a voltage source inverter. The grid should be supplied by certain levels of powers for certain times from wind energy system according to a certain schedule. Batteries bank is connected to the DC-link voltage through a DC-DC bidirectional converter to maintain the DC voltage at constant value. Also it is used to make batteries bank stores a surplus of wind energy and supplies this energy to the grid during the wind power shortage. Voltage source inverter, at the grid side, uses a relatively complex vector control scheme to supply power at unity power factor into the grid. Simulation results have been performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK. It demonstrates that the controller performs very well in spite of variation in wind speed and demanded grid power. Also, maximum power extraction from wind turbine can be achieved through the switch mode rectifier control at the generator side.","PeriodicalId":239142,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114842394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
