Cell formation is necessary for implementation of cellular manufacturing. Many of methods exist for cell formation problem solving. Some of these methods are applying in traditional cell design, in fixed routines and others are applying in dynamic cells environment. In this review article, critical assessment of various metaheuristic techniques which utilized in cell formation problem solving is made through extensive literature review. Various existing models for cell formation are argued consequently and directions for future work are presented. Passino invented the bacteria foraging optimization algorithm, one of the main challenges has been employment of the algorithm to problem areas other than those for which the algorithm was proposed. This research work inquires the applications of designed experiments aided by multiple regression analysis for tuning of this emerging novel optimization algorithm parameters to the cell formation (CF) problem considering operation sequence. In this paper, an attempt is made to tuning chemo tactic and swarming steps parameters meanwhile taking into consideration bacteria foraging optimization algorithm convergence speed and performance. The factorial designed experiment is suggested to create treatments of experiment. The adequacy of the proposed model is analyzed based on some commonly statistical criteria. The results lie in favor of adequacy of the proposed model.","PeriodicalId":239044,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Automation and Control Engineering","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116557468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach is developed based on the “situated-activity paradigm” and a “divide and conquer” strategy which steers the robot to move among unknown obstacles and towards a target without collision. The proposed approach entitled the Virtual Semi-Circles(VSC). The VSC approach lies in integration of 4 modules: division, evaluation, decision and motion generation. The VSC proposes a comprehensive obstacle avoidance approach for robust and reliable mobile robot navigation in cluttered, dense and complex unknown environments. The simulation result shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":239044,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Automation and Control Engineering","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131312512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These approaches are usually performed in supervised and offline mode. In this paper, a robust appearance-based unsupervised and online place recognition algorithm, which is inspired from online sequential clustering methods, is introduced. This method combines several image features using Speedup Robust Features (SURF) by accumulating them into a union form of features inside each place cluster. In this method, the mobile robot captures omnidirectional visual information and converts them into topological place clusters. Experimental results show the robustness, accuracy, and efficiency of the method as well as its ability to create topological place clusters for solving mapping and qualitative localization problems. The performance of the developed system is remarkable in term of recognition precision performance.","PeriodicalId":239044,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Automation and Control Engineering","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132806621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyze the specificity of the application determining the requirements for the design and functioning of the grasping system. Textiles do not have a stable shape and cannot be manipulated on the basis of a priori geometric knowledge. Therefore, the grasping task cannot be executed without exploring the material and the environment. This is to be achieved by a vision system, which is part of the robotic work cell, in combination with tactile sensors embedded in the fingertips of the gripper. A possible design for the gripper mechanism is outlined and open research and design problems are identified. The state feedback linearizing and decoupling control as applied to the induction motor drive is presented. With this control, the drive system is decoupled into two linear subsystems: electrical and mechanical. Comprehensive and systematic procedures are developed to determine the gains of the Proportional-Integral (P-I) controllers for electrical and mechanical subsystems. There have been many researches to mine Web documents in the exploding Web world, especially User Generated Content such as weblogs and microblogs, for knowledge about various phenomena and events in the physical world, and also Web services with the Web-mined knowledge have been made available for the public. However, there are few detailed investigations on how accurately Web-mined data reflect physical-world data. It must be socially-problematic to immoderately utilize the Web-mined data in public Web services without ensuring their accuracy sufficiently. Therefore, the previous papers introduced various Web Sensors to extract spatiotemporal data about a target phenomenon from Web documents searched by keyword(s) representing the target phenomenon, and tried to validate the potential and reliability of the Web-sensed spatiotemporal data.
