The family is represented by more than 100 species worldwide and 30 in Poland, therein 11 species (and 3 subspecies) were discovered from 10 species of native rodents. Fifty two striped field mice Apodemus agrarius from eastern Pomerania (Poland) were examined in 2006-2007; the presence of mites was confirmed by the standard method of digesting skin fragments (from head, belly, groin, limbs, genital-anal region, neck and back). Two demodectic mites were found: Demodex agrarii and D. arvicolae--specifically the form D. a. apodemi, previously recorded in the wood mouse (Apodemus silvaticus). Demodex spp. were noted in 53.8% of the examined mice; D. arvicolae was the dominant species (prevalence 48.1%, mean intensity 12.5), whereas D. agrarii was found in only a few hosts (prevalence 13.5%, mean intensity 7.6); these mites were more frequently found in males. D. a. apodemi were found mainly in skin of head and very few in skin of genital-anal region. D. agrarii lives in the ducts of the auricular sebaceous gland, in which all its developmental stages have been found; it is precisely the specific habitat of D. agrarii that determines its large size and its strongly elongated shape.</p>","PeriodicalId":23835,"journal":{"name":"Wiadomosci parazytologiczne","volume":"56 1","pages":"59-61"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"28969379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was comparable analysis of Metazoan parasite communities which occur in roach, bream and perch in three lakes of river Łyna watershed. These lakes differ by physical (size, depth, eutrophication degree) and biological factors (composition of free-living organisms). The studies showed some relationships between size of fishes and the frequency of some parasite species as well as some relationships in seasonal dynamic of occurrence and maturation of ecto- and endoparasites, which were connected with temperature--main factor regulating processes of fish colonization by parasites and future development of parasites. In quantitative and qualitative analysis of fish parasite community structure the following indexes were used: species richness (S), species diversity of Shannon-Weaver (H'), species diversity of Brillouin (HB) and index of domination Berger-Parker (D). Studies showed that the main indexes of communities structure which indicating on occurring differences between lakes were indexes of diversity component communities and infracommunities and also index of dominance. Communities of monogeneans (roaches and breams) can be use as indicators of water environment. Apart from communities of gills parasites also alfamesotrophic lake Łańskie and eutrophic Mielno lake were differenced by eyes parasites and allogenic community of bream parasites and by intestinal parasites of roach.</p>","PeriodicalId":23835,"journal":{"name":"Wiadomosci parazytologiczne","volume":"56 1","pages":"81-2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"28971344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of study was the evaluation of some clinic data in patients with tinea versicolor, who entered to Department of Biology and Medical Parasitology, Centre for Treatment of Parasitic Diseases and Mycoses, Medical University of Lodz. Forty four patients with tinea versicolor were examined. Localization and number of skin lesions as well as eventually risk factor were examined. In all patients mycological examine was done; morphotic elements of fungi in direct and stained slides were found, cultures on solid medium with oil olive were done. In Wood light fluorescence of changed skin was observed. The most incidence of tinea versicolor was observed in young persons to compare with to another age groups. The most frequently localization of clinical lesions concerned back skin, back and chest. In women - to compare with to male patients--clinical lesions on back skin were significantly more frequent. The only one factor was conducived to infection--it was a seborrhea of the skin, observed mainly in patients from the youngest age group.</p>","PeriodicalId":23835,"journal":{"name":"Wiadomosci parazytologiczne","volume":"56 4","pages":"323-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"29781833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From time to time, however, these parasites can be located in the scrotum and spermatic cord inflicting pain and edema in these body parts. The aim of the study was to describe the case of the nematode Setaria equina found in the vaginal sac of the stallion's scrotum. During the study, thorough examination of 50 isolated testicles of 25 stallions was conducted. The horses were obtained post-slaughter from the local slaughterhouse near Krakow. In one of examined stallions, two females of Setaria equina of 80 and 110 mm in length were found attached to the surface of the testicle.
