EGAT has extensive experience with LW using the Insulating tool and Bare-hand (contact) technique on conventional up-to 500 kV lines. EGAT also has the plan to develop LW technique suit to the constraints on the tower configuration and tower window clearances as well as the unseen problem on insulator string cause by bird drop as the previous serious experienced as well. Facing the new challenge, EGAT engineers carefully considered the suitable and sound methodology for the line maintenance by study about the innovative technique that success perform in many country to select the safe and more safe method that accept by the LW team. The lineman training school was set up for the actual training program for the new technique especially the LW training site for actual simulation in each safety scenario before the actual practical training program. The paper show the overall actual development in LW activity in Thailand such as type of LW, LW activity, live working in-house development and training program under EGAT lineman training school. From a safety perspective, the approach distances must be taken into account. According to the standard IEC-61472, the IAVs must be considered as large metallic floating objects and specific tests and studies must be carried out to determine the dielectric strength. This paper covers the Italian practice for the use of IAVs in the LLM context. It includes some specific studies to verify the safety conditions of this kind of maintenance operations. The study is based on a solid experimental background and treats several tests carried out in high voltage laboratories. The tests take into account most of the configurations encountered. After the liberalization and integration of electricity markets, beside the technical advantages the economic benefits have become more determinant driver of this technology since the capacity of cross-border transmission lines are limited. Several studies have revealed economic benefits of electricity market coupling, which increases social welfare, but shipping of electric energy between coupled markets is still limited by the cross-border capacity. Long time ago cross-border lines have been constructed for emergency considerations with negligible market aspects. Cut-off cross-border lines for maintenance decreases the transfer capacity causing further distortion on each market, therefore a simple maintenance on these lines can decrease social welfare. In this paper, the authors introduce the effect of electricity market coupling on social welfare emphasizing the role of transfer capacity, which acts on market prices of interconnected countries. The delivery of this service can often be measured as being successful only if it has a workforce that is trained, skilled and committed. At the same time a company's safety performance can also be measured through well trained staff and the correct application of the knowledge that they have gained. Fundamental importances are to encourage trade's staff to work at their peak which is most likely achieved by the company providing skill / knowledge upgrades from time to time. This allows the workers to perform to the highest level of safety, to be proficient in all tasks, in addition to crews becoming notably more efficient. With Live Line training being continually in demand, we have built fundamental components into the work methods during training, establishing a solid foundation and commonalities for the three methods of live line work. This has allowed the Powerline workers to further demonstrate their competencies and skills through measured performance indicators and observable improvements in safety awareness. We have researched the behavior of the different options provided by the market and what possible changes could be done so that they became more comfortable without compromising shielding conditions. We worked both on new and used clothes with different degrees of wearing, and conductivity and shielding measurements were made in the presence of intense electric and magnetic fields. At this stage of the research, it was established an interesting correlation between the composition of each garment and the shielding that it provides, which represents a very important contribution to manufacturers and users. In light of the results obtained and given that the current garments only protect against electric fields, we have began to work with the aim of achieving some shielding as well against Magnetic Fields. Quality and continuity of supply and network outage constraints requires the use of live line maintenance techniques to achieve required network performance and circuit availability. Stick and bare hand techniques using insulated ladders, insulated aerial platforms, rope hoisting methods and helicopters are utilised to gain access to live conductors and structures to carry out essential preventative maintenance. CME has a Training Center, located in the center of Portugal, which has unique facilities deployed in an area of 15,000 m2, able to train crews from low level tensions up to very high tension. New technologies where developed in the last period, such as replacement of anchors, mounting of monitoring systems, mounting of line arresters, replacement of ground wire, etc. From this to overlaying almost all maintenance works needed on maintenance projects of OHL's it is a small step. The paper presents actual and possible works in Live technologies for refurbishing OHLs. From common practices to modern new technologies (including robots) all Live methods should be included in maintenance to avoid the deenergizing of the line. The new tools and technologies developed in the world are taken into consideration.
