A methodology of diagnostic evaluation of the cardiac dynamics was developed from this dimension, allowing differentiating normal dynamics from those with acute dynamics. For this study, 30 holter and continuous electrocardiographic records clinically diagnosed with acute dynamic were analyzed, also 20 dynamics clinically diagnosed as normal were taken. For each dynamic the values of maximal and minimal values by hour of cardiac frequencies were taken; with these values, the statistical fractal dimension were calculated, for this, the values were organized in ranges of 15 beat/min, and the number of times each range was presented was founded. To this distribution of numbers, the Zipf-Mandelbrot law was applied for find the fractal dimension of each dynamic. Subsequently, the diagnosis evaluation methodology was applied, and the sensitivity, specificity and Kappa coefficient values were measured, finding values for the sensitivity and specificity of 100%, and a Kappa coefficient. Through of application of diagnosis evaluation methodology was possible differentiate normality of acute disease in the cardiac dynamic.","PeriodicalId":237079,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124165519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Machine learning is becoming more and more widely used in breast tumor classification and diagnosis. In this paper, we compared the performance of different machine learning methods, such as Random Forest (RF), eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost) and Light Gradient Boosting Machine(LightGBM), for miRNAs identification in breast cancer patients. The performance comparison of each algorithm was evaluated based on the accuracy and logistic loss and where LightGBM was found better performing in several aspects. hsa-mir-139 was found as an important target for the breast cancer classification. As a powerful tool, LightGBM can be used to identify and classify miRNA target in breast cancer.","PeriodicalId":237079,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122879839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pressure, venous and arterial leg ulcers are considered in this study. For this purpose, chronic wound images acquired by digital camera are enhanced using color correction, noise removal and color homogenization. Enhanced images in Cb color channel of YCbCr color space is used to extract wound bed with factorization based segmentation approach. Binary classification is performed to classify pressure ulcers and leg ulcers. The obtained results showed that the proposed segmentation method is capable of converging exactly to irregular wound boundaries. Hence, the suggested pipeline of processes seems to be promising for automatic segmentation and classification of pressure ulcers from leg ulcers aiding in the assessment of wound healing status.","PeriodicalId":237079,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131070331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The immobilization of CHX on a polydopamine (PDA) layer may acts as an antibacterial coating on medical grade stainless steel (SS316L). In this study, the immobilization of CHX on PDA grafted SS316L was performed at different immersion times (3, 6, 9, 12, 24 and 48 hours). The samples were subjected to ATR-FTIR and AFM analyses, adsorption test and cytotoxicity test. The immobilization of CHX at 24 hours produced a stable CHX coating on the PDA layer as evidenced by prominent indicator of CHX long hydrocarbon chain in the FTIR spectra. The CHX coating has higher surface roughness due to CHX aggregation and several protrusions on the grafted PDA layer. Longer immersion time in the CHX salt solution led to high diffusivity rate of solubilized CHX which cause higher absorptivity of CHX on the PDA grafted SS316L. While, the viability study indicated no significant cytotoxicity on osteoblast cells for all time points. The immobilization of CHX on the PDA layer at 24 hours contributed to a stable coating with acceptable cytotoxicity range which could be utilized in the development of an antibacterial coating on metallic implants.","PeriodicalId":237079,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125565567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our algorithm applies adaptive smoothness constraints making use of disparity discontinuous information to optimize the overall disparity map. First, we define a CNN architecture called DD-CNN to classify whether disparities of pixels in the image is continuous or not. The training data set is constructed from Middlebury stereo data sets. Once we obtain the disparity discontinuous map, different penalizes are applied to the energy function which takes the whole disparity map as argument. The algorithm imposes large penalizes to disparity differences between pixels and their neighborhoods when disparities of the center pixels are predicted to be discontinuous and small penalizes otherwise. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm performs better than the state-of-art algorithm.","PeriodicalId":237079,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123795027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed Intensity Flow Dimensionality Reduction method (IFDR) uses optical flow tracking to estimate a set of dense intensity flow vectors from every adjacent pair of projections in the projection dataset. A dimensionality reduction method is applied to the intensity flow vectors to distil them into an eigensystem in which the first few principal components (up to 3 in this work) are combined to represent the motion patterns in the dataset. The algorithm was experimentally evaluated on clinical patient datasets. The extracted respiratory signal using IFDR was compared to respiratory signals measured using 1) the diaphragm position and 2) a trajectory of fiducial markers implanted in and near the tumor. IFDR-based respiratory signal showed an average phase shift of 3.8 ± 1.9 projections (0.35% of the projection set) comparing to the diaphragm position-based signal, and an average phase shift of 3.59 ± 2.44 projections (0.15% of the projection set) comparing to the internal markers-based signal. IFDR was able to extract the respiratory signal in all projections of all the patients' dataset without using any external devices, internal markers or requiring any structure such as the diaphragm to be visible in the CBCT projections. This respiratory signal extracted correlates to the tumor position since the motion was estimated from the soft tissues in and around the tumor.","PeriodicalId":237079,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132844544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various methods have been developed, one of which is the method of adsorption. Adsorption of heavy metals can be done using lignin. Lignin has been successfully isolated from coconut fiber by dissolving it in an alkaline solvent, NaOH. Next, it is deposited in an acidic atmosphere. The precipitate is filtered and dried using an oven with a temperature of 60°C and then placed in a desiccator to remove water in lignin to obtain pure lignin. The isolation result was characterized by using FT-IR instrument and an adsorption test was conducted on chromium heavy metal. The adsorption test was performed on a mass variation of 0.2; 0.3; And 0.5 gram and contact time 60; 90; And 120 min and an increase of% adsorption per mass increase and contact time. The lignin permeability for Cr metal ions has the best effectiveness for contact time of 120 min and 0.5 gram of adsorbent mass with adsorption% of 76.2% and 57.87%, respectively. Optimum time and mass are used for testing of aquatic samples at Lake University of Indonesia to determine the capacity of absorption of lignin against Cr metal presents in the sample. The concentration of chromium ion before and after adsorbed by isolated lignin from cocopeat fiber are 117.00 ppm and 6.89 ppm, respectively. The isolated lignin adsorption capacity of Cr in the sample of Lake University of Indonesia is 94.11%.","PeriodicalId":237079,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131150116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the muscles in the palmar region of the hand are intrinsic, and hence noninvasive EMG measurements give minimal information. In this study, an attempt is made to quantify the variations in thermal profile of the hand pre- and post- fatigue using infrared thermography. Subjects are tested using pinch grip based isometric contraction of the hand until fatigue. Baseline and post-fatigue thermal images are acquired using a Meditherm IRIS infrared camera. The process of image segmentation is carried out to delineate the dominant hand from the background. Features such as average temperature and kurtosis are extracted from the segmented images. Results show that there are wide variations in the intensities depicted by the thermal profile of each subject's hand. A decrease of 1.22% in median hand temperature of the palmar hand is observed. Similarly, a 1.17% reduction in temperature of the dorsal hand is detected post-fatigue. The kurtosis of the thermal profiles increases by 5.39% in the palmar hand and 6.63% in the dorsal hand post-fatigue. The statistical Student T-test performed on these features indicate that the decrease in average temperature is non-statistically significant (P>0.05); however, the increase in kurtosis is statistically significant (P<0.05). Infrared thermography appears to be a promising tool to measure the state of activation of muscle groups using thermal profiles.","PeriodicalId":237079,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124416923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To overcome those limitations, we propose a fully convolutional 3D neural network capable of reconstructing a full scene from a single depth image by creating a 3D representation of it and automatically filling holes and inserting hidden elements. Our algorithm was evaluated on a real word dataset of tabletop scenes acquired using a Kinect and processed using KinectFusion software in order to obtain ground truth for network training and evaluation. Extensive measurements show that our deep neural network architecture outperforms the previous state of the art in terms of both precision and recall for the scene reconstruction task.","PeriodicalId":237079,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2017 International Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131282555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
