Researchers have adopted videography method in recent years to understand the consumer and the market. In consumer research, videography is primarily used in ethnography based qualitative studies. Visuals have always been a part of people’s lives but with the new technologies like smartphones and social media, they became the indispensable part of our lives. The importance of visuals in our lives makes visual research more important in consumer research. Traditional academic journals depend on writing. Visuals, on the other hand, are used mostly for demonstrating the data and the results. In addition to the traditional understanding, visuals in videography are not only used for recording but also for analyzing and presenting the results. Consequently, videos alone or with the written materials, have turned back into the sources of academic research that help us to understand customers, markets and cultures. In this paper, the basics of videography including filming, analyzing and editing phases will be discussed. It is inevitable that the accumulated experience in videography research created some rules and criteria for distinguishing an academic videography from other uses. The paper will eventually clarify how videography research is practically applied and what makes a theoretical contribution in video graphic research.","PeriodicalId":236923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Business, Management and Economics","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131981005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One functional remedy for these problems can be design thinking. The purpose of this paper is present how design thinking –approaching business problems as designers approach design problems can be integrated into the way how business management is taught. Although design thinking has been around for more than two decades, initial prospects of the concept are yet to be fully realized. Design thinking requires students to have project management mentality, enhanced collaborative skills, and exceptional curiosity. Design thinking is not just about new product development, it is rather a mental process through which wicked problems are solved interactively. For indoctrinating students with design thinking, first-year undergraduate students were given a design challenge which requires designing a storyboard for a Pokémon Go like, augmented reality (AR) mobile/video game. Students were asked to integrate the business management curriculum into the process. As part of the design challenge, students had to work in already-assigned groups, write the storyboard, and finally present their game in front of their classmates and a group of external evaluators within a strict timeframe. The paper reports on how students approached the design challenge, provide examples from their presentations and their feedback on the cognitive, attitudinal, and interpersonal development. Overall, the paper will provide the audience with a relatively novel approach in integrating design thinking into our teaching efforts.","PeriodicalId":236923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Business, Management and Economics","volume":"16 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132090478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies on start-ups have compared different types of investors naming angel investors, venture capitalist, banks etc., in various perspectives. However, studies analysing the intra-investors features especially amongst the angel investors in terms of their characteristics, investment pattern and risk management strategies are sparse. Further, studies on angel investors of Indian economy is very less. This paper attempts to meet the gap in researches by analysing the differences amongst angel investors in Indian context. This is an earliest study to analyse whether the angel investors of different types are homogeneous in terms of their age or not. This study further explores the influences angel investor's age in their investment decisions and risktaking ability. Parametric statistical tests were used to analyse 1243 angel investments made in Indian start-ups during the period 2014-2018. Findings of the study shows that the angel investors belong to different education level, occupational background, domicile, industrial experience, functional area experience, investment experience are heterogeneous in terms of their age. It is found that the angel investors living in metro cities holding post-graduation and above, working in corporate/academic sector with general management expertise and having investment experience of 11-15 times are appear to be significantly older than their other counterparts. A positive correlation found between age of investors and start-ups shows that the elder investors are more risk-averse in nature and tend to invest in well-established firms than early stage ones.","PeriodicalId":236923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Business, Management and Economics","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128014898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, SMEs in most developing economies face tremendous challenges that limit their growth and performance. While there has been increasing attention on factors that enhance SME performance in developing economies, few studies have explicitly investigated the roles of interfirm cooperation among SMEs and institutional support systems. Drawing on the resource based view and institutional support theories, this study models and examines how managerial ties, inter-firm cooperation and government support affect performance. Findings from a survey of SMEs in a developing economy indicate that managerial ties and interfirm cooperation have a significant positive effect on performance. Surprisingly, the results reveal that government support does not demonstrate a positive impact on firm performance. In addition these findings confirm that managerial ties play a more significant role on the performance of SMEs than inter-firm cooperation. Overall, policy interventions will be needed to enhance inter-firm cooperation and to address the effects of government support.","PeriodicalId":236923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Business, Management and Economics","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122503522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The urban land lease policy of Ethiopia, least urbanized but fast urbanizing country, is considered the most influential policy that determines the investment environment in the cities. It lays the foundation for acquiring ‘land use right’ through auction or negotiation. This paper quantitatively examines its implementation using data obtained from the urban land auction market in the country’s capital. The study found a very high divergence between the auction guide-prices (set by the government) and the sale prices (offered by land developers, investors), where the latter is significantly higher than the former. Besides, the variation is found to be significantly explained by a number of factors including floor price, plot size, plot use type, plot grade, plot location, and time of the auction. The study found that the urban land market is not majorly driven by economic rational. The land market system is not only highly exposed to speculations but also DRAFT its urban land acquisition is majorly a secondary market, with no policy-ground. As a result, the market is characterized by high inefficiency and weak institutional capacity. The study also identifies feasible options that consider the unique features of Ethiopian cities for efficient and effective urban land management so that they can capitalize on the opportunities from the rapid urbanization process in the country.","PeriodicalId":236923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Business, Management and Economics","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125270094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although organizational interventions are clearly needed, research indicates that stimulating participants to take development activities on their own is far more promising for successful leadership development. The purpose of this study was to investigate how feedback following a leadership development initiative, utilizing 360-degree feedback, influences participants. Starting with analyzing the divergence between self and other ratings in 360-degree feedback, a new model is developed to investigate the influence of participants perceived accuracy and usefulness of feedback on the likelihood for to engage in self-development activities.","PeriodicalId":236923,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Business, Management and Economics","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116807432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
