The population of the study comprised 6000 Post Graduate (PG) students from which a sample of 361 representing about 60 percent of the entire population was taken. The descriptive survey design was used and the setting for the study was a mix of face to face and online survey. The instrument for data collection was an investigator designed questionnaire which was pilot tested with five participants. Four research questions guided the study. The study found that, online learning material is better than conventional textbook materials in terms of coverage of topics, access to materials provision of supplemented instruction, flexible reading style, provision of current and updated information etc. The study also found that, to access online learning materials, majority of the students use Cybercafé network since the institution does not provide internet services for the students. This to a large extent contributes to why many students still patronize conventional textbook materials. The study also found that, online learning resource is more cost effective than conventional textbook materials. The study recommended that, institutions of learning in Nigeria should do away with resistance in the shift towards online learning resources and adapt their curriculum to include digital resources, and that; there should be free internet service for students on campus in all universities in Nigeria.

The academics are not left out of this entire dilemma. The same\u0000 academic who is expected to be active in research within the university system is also\u0000 expected to be committed to teaching and service assignments. The research task itself\u0000 requires a lot of processes scattered around various work, culture, people and structure\u0000 such as writing proposals, liaising with the research department, looking for materials\u0000 in the library, learning appropriate applications with the Information Technology (IT)\u0000 department etc. The aim of this research is to establish the perceived gaps based on the\u0000 process of academic research in the university. The study is based on a case study of\u0000 the University of Botswana. It uses the Nadler-Tushman Congruence Framework to perform a\u0000 gap analysis on the current system. The study is initiated as part of progress towards\u0000 providing a model to identify opportunities for improvement in research services at the\u0000 university. The outcome from the study is a proposed model to help align work, culture,\u0000 people and structure. The blueprint provided by the model will allow one to see the real\u0000 impact of change, identifying where gaps and opportunities exist, and understand how and\u0000 where things can be improved for the benefit of all stakeholders. The model provides for\u0000 a single point through which a researcher can request assistance from the various units\u0000 of the system. Be-yond the single point of access, the various units should be able to\u0000 provide support for the entire research process without the researcher necessarily\u0000 having to leave their desk. It also provides researchers with information to build\u0000 systems that can improve enterprise flow within the research process. An efficient way\u0000 of achieving this will be to eliminate or minimize the human factor where necessary. The\u0000 paper proposes that a more detailed model can be achieved using The Open Group\u0000 Architecture Framework (TOGAF) architecture model.

However, extant literatures have shown that most of the students in Nigeria do not use these information resources adequately. Previous studies focused largely on accessing and utilisation of IRs among students in tertiary institutions with little emphasis on secondary school students, particularly those in university-owned secondary schools. This study, therefore, was carried out to examine the adoption on EIRs usage among students in Federal university-owned senior secondary schools in southwestern Nigeria. The survey design of ex post-facto type was utilised. The university-owned senior secondary schools from five federal universities in southwestern Nigeria were purposively selected. Six hundred and seventy- four Senior Secondary School II students in the five schools were enumerated. The instruments used were: Information Communication Technology Adoption (r=0.70) and IRs Usage (r=0.77) scales. This was complemented with a focus group discussion session with 10 students in each school. Quantitative data were subjected to descriptive analysis, Pearson’s product moment correlation at 0.05 level of significance, while qualitative data were thematically analysed. The respondents’ age was of 16.0±2.0 years, 50.6% were males and 68.1% were from the sciences. The ICT adoption level was high ( ̅=2.90) against 2.50 criterion mean. Information resources were used on a regular basis within the interval of 26-50 on the test of norm table. The sources of accessing the IRs were Internet (85.4%), mobile phone (77.8%), television (71.5%), e-books (50.9%) and educational software (49.1%). The ICT adoption (r=0.58), correlated significantly with IRs usage. ICT adoption predicted IRs usage (F(3;670) =24.26; Adj. R2=0.366), accounting for 36.6% of its variance. The ICT adoption (β=0.52) contributed to IRs usage. Instability of network services, information overload, inadequate technical support and restrictions of ICT tools use were challenges facing IRs usage among the students. Information and communication technology adoption influenced information resources usage among students of university-owned senior secondary schools in southwestern Nigeria. Therefore, there is need for the provision of functional and effective network services and enactment of flexible rules on information and communication technology tools.
