Abstract
The study was conducted to examine the extent of KOHA software application in
cataloguing and classification in National Library of Nigeria, Abuja headquarters. The
study was guided by three research questions. The study adopted the descriptive survey
research design. The population of the study comprised the entire 16 cataloguers and
classifiers in National Library of Nigeria, Abuja. The entire population was used as
sample size because of its size and which is manageable A34 items questionnaire was used
as instrument for data collection. The data collected were statistically analysed using
mean and standard deviation for the research questions. The findings of the study showed
and identified some challenges which include lack of training and retraining of staff,
epileptic nature of power supply, poor funding, crashing in network, lack of
stationaries for provision of cataloguing worksheets, poor maintenance culture of
computers. The paper recommended that adequate training and retraining of staff in ICT
skills and use of the Open Souce Software (OSS) , provision of alternative power source,
sorting of network problem to curtail network crashing, improved and diversification of
sources of fund, amongst others.
