(TEPCO) had developed the distribution automation system (DAS). Since then, the DAS has expanded into all branch offices. The existing DAS can't monitor the detailed data of the distribution network. But, monitoring of detailed data becomes more significant because the recent acceleration of introducing dispersed generators to the distribution network and the deregulation in electricity supply industry to be extended to the distribution network are changing the circumstances of the distribution network. So, TEPCO, TMT&D and other manufacturers have jointly developed the advanced DAS with an optical fiber network. This system will be installed in the actual field of TEPCO and subjected to the field test from January 2004 in order to prove its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":236779,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2004.","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123834445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two families of multi-configuration and multi-functional FACTS controllers, including interline power flow controllers (IPFC) and generalized unified power flow controllers (GUPFC), are considered in details. Mathematical models of the IPPC and GUPFC based on d-q axis reference frame decomposition have been derived. A unified procedure to incorporate IPFC and GUPFC models into the conventional Newton-Raphson power flow solver is developed. Under this framework, for each IPFC or GUPFC, only two control parameters are appended in the unknown vector of iteration formula. Simulation results on a practical large-scale power system demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our models. Comparison studies for convergence performance with existing model are performed.","PeriodicalId":236779,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2004.","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131481510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The typical reactive power control equipment considered in this research is the mechanical switched shunt capacitor banks (SCBs) because SCBs are the most widely used reactive power control equipment in the power systems. Two algorithms are proposed in this paper. The first algorithm is used to do the proposed power system sensitivity analysis in order to reduce the computing burden by forming the most sensitive bus group (MSBG) with the buses in it are not only most sensitive of the bus voltage with respect to the change of load but also with heavy loading. The second algorithm is used to find the maximum values of the defined system global steady-state stability margin and security measure for adding the given SCB design plan at different bus location in MSBG. The results of the second algorithm will show the number, best sizes and locations of SCBs that can maximize the system global steady-state stability and security performance of the power systems. The proposed algorithms are employed to determine the number, size and locations of SCBs in 39-Bus New England power system.","PeriodicalId":236779,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2004.","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131301243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stochastic models for solar and wind power are used together with simpler models of small scale hydro power and storage. The load model is deterministic and based on industrial activities with a maximum load of 28 kW. 38 different cases with different supply configurations are simulated using Monte-Carlo simulation. It can be concluded that a system with only wind power has a higher availability than a system with only solar power. However solar power is more regular which allows for a more efficient use of storage. To obtain a high availability large storage capability is needed or a combination of sources.","PeriodicalId":236779,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2004.","volume":"100 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120984374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For linear systems convolution integral models the input-output data set. For nonlinear systems, however, Volterra series serves as a generalization of the convolution integral. To parameterize the Volterra kernels, orthogonal functions have been used. The proposed method has been tested on a nonlinear seventh order synchronous generator model. In this study, the field voltage is considered as the input and the active output power and the terminal voltage are considered as the outputs of the synchronous generator. Simulation results show good accuracy of the identified model following changes in the operating conditions.","PeriodicalId":236779,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2004.","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130300536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method considers the permissibility and ambiguity of the investment budget (economics) for constructing the new transmission lines and the delivery marginal rate (reliability criteria) of the system by modeling the transmission expansion problem as a fuzzy integer programming one. It solves for the optimal strategy (reasonable as well as flexible) using a fuzzy set theory-based on branch and bound method that utilizes a network flow approach and the maximum flow-minimum cut set theorem. Under no or only a very small database for the evaluation of reliability indices, the proposed technique provides the decision maker with a valuable and practical tool to solve the transmission expansion problem considering problem uncertainties. Test results on the 63-bus test practical size system show that the proposed method is practical and efficiently applicable to the transmission expansion planning.","PeriodicalId":236779,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2004.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130980781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
