Individual’s hygiene behavior and practices may differ in public and private settings. Such behavior could also be moderated by the threat of epidemics such as Covid-19 or its absence. Using the stratified random sampling method, 384 respondents were selected from public places grouped into places of worship, business premises and markets, motor parks, and public offices. A 37 item questionnaire captured the demographic characteristics of respondents, sanitation attitude and behavior and predisposing factors. This was supplemented with personal interviews, as well as non participant observations. Data collected were summarized with the aid of frequency, percentages, tables and charts. Findings show that education per se was not a determinant in people’s sanitation behavior but rather the availability and state of the facilities. The study recommends hygiene behaviour moderation through facilities provision and maintenance.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123612270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study is exploratory correlation research. The population of this study consists of 12,098 private schools in the South-West Geopolitical Zone in Nigeria. Yaro Yamane's formula was used to select a sample of 1104 private schools across the six states in the South-West Geopolitical Zone while proportionate sampling was used to send the questionnaire across these states. Data were collected from 879 private schools’ through administered questionnaires completed by management staff. The collected data were analyzed using correlation and regression analysis. The finding shows that although MO is necessary for schools' performance, it requires the mediating effects of innovative services to achieve greater performance. The study, therefore, suggests that private schools should be market-orientated to achieve high performance.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130348418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study examined the moderating effect of institutional quality on the relationship between international financial reporting standards and foreign direct investment in Nigeria from 2012 to 2018 Institutional quality was measured by political stability and control of corruption while foreign direct investment was measured by foreign investment on equity, foreign portfolio investment on money market and foreign direct investment on trade credits. Ex-post facto research design was adopted and the Generalised Methods of Moments (GMM) was used for the analysis. The study found that with the aid of institutional quality, the IFRS has a significant effect on investment inflows in Nigeria. The study concludes that international financial reporting standards has a significant influence on foreign direct investment with strengthened institution and anticorruption efforts in Nigeria. Therefore, the study recommends that the Nigerian government should strengthen its institutional mechanisms to fully benefit from the adoption of IFRS and drive inflows of foreign direct investment.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":" 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113947781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three research questions were formulated. 1,000 respondents were sampled from youth in Edo, Delta and Anambra States. The conflict theory was adopted as the theoretical orientation for the study. The quantitative technique which relied on a self-constructed instrument was employed to collect data while the data generated from the field was analyzed with the aid of percentage. The study found that youth restiveness in Africa is mostly a result of employment, illiteracy and unfair distribution of mineral resources. Violent protests and destruction of properties, increase in social and criminal vices were some of youth restiveness. The study recommends that the ills associated with youth restiveness can be curbed through good governance, provision of skill acquisition programmes, creation of more employment opportunities for youth as well as public enlightenment against this social malaise which has become evident in the African continent.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115414366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While such policies have not provided the desired effects due to their linkage effect, the adoption and implementation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to supplement government efforts in these economies has brought considerable results. However, this technical advancement is expected to have a rapid impact on Nigeria's economic development. The policy on ICT adoption began shortly after the civilian regime took control in the year 2000. The country's licensed telecommunication service providers have had some noticeable macroeconomic effects, such as job creation and the expansion of the scope of small and medium businesses, faster service delivery, lower transportation costs, increased security, and higher national output, as well as an increase in teledensity of both fixed and mobile lines. The model's findings revealed that current telecommunications investment had no effect on GDP growth, but that investments made in the preceding two years had a considerable impact on current GDP, even though government spending slowed growth. A similar discovery was made about computer usage and how it influences investment decisions in Nigeria's telecommunications sector.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115150337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Holistic measures are required to address crime and insecurity that is prominent in all communities in Nigeria. Crime prevention is a proactive activities and synergies between government, criminal justice system and the other role players. These activities are geared towards prevention and reduction of crime and fear of crime. It is crucial to identify root causes of crime and disorderly events, thereafter, develop crime prevention strategies and plans to address and reduce crime and its potential consequences. The paper focuses on the evaluation of strategies and approaches adopted by the criminal justice system and law enforcement in addressing crime in Nigeria communities. The study adopted qualitative methodology. Interview technique was used to collect data from carefully selected participants. Finding reveals that crime prevention includes all activities which reduce, deter, or prevent the occurrence of crime, cooperation with the community is mandated in the form of community policing, sector policing in addressing issues like poverty and unemployment through government’s redistributions strategy, criminal justice officials are not implementing crime prevention approaches effectively. Presidential communication is rooted in, influenced, and limited by, usually, certain written codes. This study examined why, when, and how two presidents said what they said, and why they did or not do as said. Thesis problem was unravelling how features and styles of two presidents facilitated their political communication and public policies. Study fitted into two models, using two political communication theories: mainly ‘Aristotelian Political Rhetoric;’ Walter Fisher’s ‘the Narrative Paradigm’ as theoretical guides. Using original communications of two presidents, this comparative and historical study bridged the sparse scholarship on comparative presidential political communication. Data were obtained from purposively selected sample population, collated, analysed and interpreted, deploying multiple instruments, majorly content and discourse analyses chosen for their effectiveness at measuring predetermined variables. Selected published presidential communications 178 and 158 each all totaling 336 obtained from secondary sources formed the sample population. Findings of study revealed both presidents were largely more dissimilar than otherwise. Their backgrounds reflected, not dominated their communications. As communicators, they were urban-romanticisers, but rural-jilters, promoting rural exclusion, and accessibility to selected urban congregations. Obama’s presidential communication was delivered using peculiar styles, like Olusegun Obasanjo’s, both relying on diverse notable features. Conclusively, presidential political communication should be additional statutory responsibility of presidents to legally guarantee accountability, and practical democracy. Presidential communication system must be deconstructed and reconstructed to promote professional speech-making, and polity-connected presidential political communication.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124713247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study employed the Johansen Vector Autoregression (VAR)-based cointegration technique model to examine the sensitivity of real economic growth to changes in oil prices and real exchange rate volatility in the long-run while the short run dynamics was checked using a vector error correction model. The result from the Granger causality test suggests that there is causality between oil price, exchange rate and GDP. The results from Johansen cointegration test indicate there exist a long-run equilibrium relationship among the variables. Findings further show that oil price shock and appreciation in the level of exchange rate exert positive impact on real economic growth in Nigeria. The paper therefore recommends greater diversification of the economy through investment in key productive sectors of the economy using income from the crude oil export to guard against the vicissitude of oil price shock and exchange rate volatility.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130447096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
