Comprehensive published literature was undertaken by the author to identify journal articles and books dealing with alienation, youth and human development to establish a relationship between youth alienation and development. Findings affirmed that youth alienation has manifested itself through youth involvement in violence, terrorism, homicide, banditry, jungle justice and demonstrations/protests. It was also discovered that youth alienation has been triggered by structural challenges such as unemployment, poverty/hunger, corruption, poor political representation, among others. The consequences of youth alienation are pretty high for both individual Nigerians and the nation. While youth alienation stunts individual personal development and interferes with their potential, it affects society through numerous illicit activities engaged in by the youth which tend to slow the tempo of development and divert the attention of government from real businesses. This paper concludes that youth alienation is a menace in Nigeria that constitutes an actual threat and a danger to social, economic and political development. It is recommended that youth empowerment, extended political participation, favourable policies, among others, should be promoted by governments and private individuals to facilitate inclusion and human development.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"297 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123388158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study specifically assessed the financial management practices and return on equity of the manufacturing firms to determine whether they are significantly different from those of oil and gas firms. The ex post facto research design was used. Data were obtained from the annual reports and accounts of the sampled firms of both sectors for the period 2006-2020. A purposive simple random sampling was adopted to select sample from 52 manufacturing firms and 11 oil and gas firms. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression model were used to analyze the data. The findings showed that strategic financial management practices jointly had significant effect on return on equity of listed manufacturing (Adj. R2 = 0.0046, Chi2(5) = 64.07, p < 0.05) and oil and gas firms (Adj. R2 = 0.555, F(5,114) = 30.78, p < 0.05). The regression results revealed that debt finance has a positive and insignificant relationship with return on equity of both sectors. Investing activities, dividend payout, working capital, and total asset turnover had negative effect on return on equity of the manufacturing firms but positive effect in oil and gas firms in Nigeria. The study recommended that the investors should consider appropriate variables that help them determine choice of a sector for investment purpose before they commit their hard earned resources","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130345067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 400 randomly selected undergraduates took part in the study. Findings showed a knowledge gap about Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) among university undergraduates- supposedly knowledgeable young persons in Enugu Urban. Females were more knowledgeable than males which may be indicative of the fact that most often they are the victims. Victims of IPV among the undergraduates rarely report the infraction to the university authorities, which further encourage its perpetuation. Reasons for not reporting IPV include the fear of reprimands by victim’s parents or school authorities or further escalation. It was also found that IPV was not dependent on the number of years that victims had been in the relationship. Given the seeming unwillingness of majority of victims of IPV to report the breaches to appropriate authorities, it is concluded that curbing the menace would require commensurate sanctions and massive education of the population. It is on this note that this study recommends that IPV and gender violence as a whole be taught as one of the general courses in the universities to create more awareness on its prevalence, impact on the health and general well being of the victims. Furthermore, the authorities of universities should liaise with organizations handling issues of IPV and human rights to create centers in the universities where students can walk in and make complaints regarding IPV which would be rigorously investigated and addressed.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126144302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Armed with suitably relevant historical analysis and epistemological methodology, the authors cleverly approach the varieties of conflict cases associated with secessionist, separatist and irredentist moves and Movements across Africa. Such liberation efforts span through struggles towards decolonization and struggles for self-determination or autonomy. These views are sorted and evaluated by experts in the building industry for better design solutions. The Architects’ Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) upholds this view by providing post occupancy analysis and evaluation under phase 7 as a post construction activity in the professional payment schedule. However, minimal guidelines were set for easy adoption in the post-occupancy evaluation of buildings by ARCON for general application. To this end, this study aimed to identify the POE performance indicators and criteria relevant to building performance to guide future evaluations. The building typology considered was an architecture department building in a university. The quantitative survey involved ten architects selected through purposive sampling, and the SPSS descriptive statistics analysed data. The study considered forty criteria under three performance indicators: Design Quality (DQ), Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), and Quality of Building Support Services (QBSS). The experts rated twenty-four of the performance criteria to be relevant; thirteen were rated as moderately relevant, while three were below moderately relevant. The study recommended that proximity to sports facility and place of worship under accessibility should not be considered in POE of this building typology.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123588098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the impact of foreign portfolio investment on the performance of the stock market in Nigeria for the period of 30years (1989-2018). Secondary and time-series data were used and the variables such as; stock market capitalization proxy for capital market performance, portfolio investment, exchange rate and inflation rate were sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) statistical bulletin, 2019 To avoid spurious results, unit-root test and regression analysis were used as the tools of data analysis. Findings show that all the predictors have no significant impact on stock market capitalization except the exchange rate that is statistically significant at 5% critical value. However, the f-statistic results (18.83660) indicate that the combine variables have a significant impact on stock market performance in Nigeria. It was therefore concluded that foreign portfolio investment if properly encouraged serve as a Potent variaable for enhancing the performance of the stock market in Nigeria. The study recommends that, there is a need for the government through the central bank of Nigeria to implement a policies that will increase the level and size of market capitalization in the capital market. Such an increase in the capital market will provide the necessary funds for investors for further investments thereby increasing productivity in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":236629,"journal":{"name":"Caleb International Journal of Development Studies","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121584302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
