Prolonged standing tasks in manufacturing industry may lead to musculoskeletal disorders including pain, increased fatigue and stiffness in active muscles. The aims of this study are to determine subjective fatigue experienced by male Malaysian operators in metal stamping industry, and assess muscle fatigue in their lower extremities. Ten production operators of the industry participated in the study. Muscle fatigue has been analyzed using surface electromyography (sEMG) whereby six muscles such as left and right erector spinae muscles, left and right tibialis anterior muscles, and left and right gastrocnemius muscles were simultaneously measured. On the other hand, the subjective fatigue was assessed through questionnaire surveys. Results of questionnaire surveys found that all operators involved in the study reported that they experienced muscle fatigue due to prolonged standing tasks. Result obtained from sEMG measurement shows similar trend with the conclusion derived from surveys. A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation has been conducted at low subsonic speed to collect aerodynamic data and found that its aerodynamic trend is similar to many BWB aircraft and consistent to previous studies conducted in UiTM. Canard setting angle affects the value of lift-at-zero incidence of a BWB aircraft, although fairly small for current canard size that it is not adequate to produce positive pitching moment-at-zero lift. Baseline-II is partially, statically stable in longitudinal motion because of negative moment change w.r.t. lift change but it has equilibrium incidence angle that only produces negative lift. Larger canard and/or modification to Baseline-II wing-body are needed to overcome this flaw. The location of new reference point provides ‘comfortable’ static margin. This study is pursued with the objective of revealing the relationship between two markets, namely the Malaysian REIT and the Asian REITs market. This was investigated using monthly data from March 2005 until September 2009. Japan and Singapore are chosen to represent the Asian REITs because the two dominate the Asian REIT market in terms of market capitalization. The study employs Engle-Granger Cointegration test to examine the variables' long-run relationship, while vector autoregression (VAR) is deployed to explore the variables' dynamic interactions. The empirical findings of the study show an absence of long-run relationship between Malaysian REIT market and the Asian REITs market. With regard to their dynamic interactions, the two markets are found to be positively correlated and short-term relationship can be established between them. A total of 14 public secondary schools were randomly selected using the stratification technique throughout the nation. It was further stratified based on Math and Science teachers and the final sample comprised 154 Math and 160 Science teachers. This study employed a purely quantitative research design which entailed the administration of a questionnaire. The study investigated the perception of teachers regarding the implementation of the policy and the usage of English language in classroom teaching. The findings indicated that about 54% of Math and Science teachers preferred to continue with the implementation of the policy. However, further analysis indicated that 75% of the math novice teachers would like to continue with this policy as compared to 41.9 % and 52.4% of the experienced and very experienced respectively. This relationship was significant at the 0.05 level. The findings also exhibited that 70.3% of Science novice teachers also indicated a positive response whereas 61.7% of the experienced and 41.7 % of the very experienced teachers indicated otherwise. This relationship was also significant at the 0.05 level. These findings imply that the younger teachers are more open and have found it easier to adapt to the change in policy in comparison to the experienced and more experienced teachers. Findings also indicated that in total average, 29.5% of the Math teachers and 34.6% of Science teachers use English language more than 61% in their classroom teaching. Mastuki","doi":"10.1109/CSSR.2010.5773726","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CSSR.2010.5773726","url":null,"abstract":"This study attempts to investigate the tax planning activities of Malaysian public companies listed on Bursa Malaysia during the official assessment system tax regime (OAS) (whereby the tax computation is prepared by tax authorities) and the self assessment system tax regime (OAS) (the tax computation is prepared by taxpayers). The objective is to examine the level of corporate effective tax rates (ETRs) experienced by companies during both tax regimes. This study uses pooled sample data of 316 companies for the years 1993 to 2006. In investigating the aggresiveness of the tax planning activites during the two tax regimes, the investigation period is classified into two: the period from 1993 to 2000 represents the official assessment system tax regime, and the period from 2001 to 2006 represents the self assessment system tax regime. This study finds that corporate ETRs are below the statutory tax rate (STR) in both tax regimes. The current study reveals that ETRs during the self assessment system tax regime is lower than the official assessment system tax regime. Additionally, this study examines the determinants of corporate ETRs during both tax regimes. The result supports political cost theory which suggests that larger companies endure higher ETRs. Further, the statistical results provide evidence that lower ETRs are significantly related to highly leverage companies, greater investment in fixed assets and lower investment in inventory. This study finds that companies with higher return on assets face lower ETRs. In addition, sector analysis are carried out to provide the evidence for the variability of ETRs across sectors. The results indicate that companies from trading and services, properties and construction sectors face higher ETRs.
