In this work, we have used evolutionary methods, for optimal parameters setting of the anisotropic diffusion filter in degraded images with additive noise. The experiments show the potential of the evolutionary methods to optimize the parametrization, with the objective of evaluating the performance of filters, applied on a set of degraded images with controlled conditions and a known ground truth.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123877804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, availability rates established in service level agreements (SLA) by cloud service providers (CSP) does not always meet their demand for high-availability (HA). Services replicated in multi-AZs architecture result in high costs due to the inherent increase in the load of the physical servers, resulting in higher consumption of energy. In this way, virtual machine (VM) consolidation stands out as an energy efficiency strategy based on virtual resource scheduling, allowing to reduce energy consumption as well as improve the organization of fragmented resources. However, when consolidation is applied in conjunction with HA mechanism, there is a risk of violating affinity (MV-server) and anti-affinity (MV-AZ) constraints, thereby violating SLA requirements. Thus, CHAVE presents an on-demand HA mechanism based on Multi-AZ replication, which simultaneously performs a VM consolidation strategy isolated for each AZ, considering its inherent constraints. The numerical results by real-trace driven simulations show that CHAVE, meets 20% of HA requests with energy consumption similar to a CSP that does not apply to consolidation with replication. Additionally, CHAVE does not cause any SLA violations such as overcommiting, or rejection of critical requests.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114980685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a disconnection between what happens in the physical classroom and what happens when students take an online class. The experience usually goes from interactive to static.In this work, we propose the design of an interactive e-learning platform that makes use of dynamic media such as videos, to improve the interactive experience of students. To this end, the main limitations of current systems are studied and different solutions are proposed to mitigate the problems. The main contributions of this work are, first, to establish a set of challenges that interactive e-learning platforms should support, and second, the description of the necessary processes to implement the platform.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"578 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123172427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, there is a lack of tools that allow the visualization of multimodal data. In this paper, we present a visualizer that allows analyzing the data provided by a multimodal learning analytics software. The multimodal data visualizer, in addition to allowing to visualize 10 body postures, permits applying clustering techniques, such as k-means. As validation, we analyze the data provided of 43 engineering student presentations.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133241987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fewer projects investigate the development of computational thinking in students in the last years of school, who usually have not had early formal preparation to acquire these skills. This study provides evidence of the effectiveness of teaching C++ (a low-level programming language) to develop computational thinking in high school students in Chile. By applying a test before and after a voluntary C++ workshop, the results reveal a significant improvement in computational thinking after the workshop. However, we observe that there was a tendency to drop out of the workshop among students with lower levels of initial computational thinking. Besides, tenth-grade students obtained lower final scores than eleventh and twelfth-grade students. These results indicate that teaching a low-level programming language is useful, but it has high entry-barriers.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126084421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Computers can never respond to individuals affective state if it cannot identify its emotion. Categorical approaches are commonly used for emotion detection in texts. It considers training models based on a set of affective states. Categorical approaches are often based on a dictionary that contains words associated with emotional categories. In this scenario, LIWC dictionaries have been widely used in psychology and linguistics. There are dictionaries in many languages, including Brazilian Portuguese (LIWC2007pt). This work focuses on the development of AffectPT-br, a new Brazilian Portuguese affective dictionary based on the LIWC 2015 English dictionary. We produced two text classification experiments with real datasets from social networks in order to compare AffectPT-br with LIWC2007pt. Results indicate AffectPT-br outperforms LIWC2007pt in the classification task with all classification algorithms we adopted.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123568996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the efficiency of these techniques is an important challenge, as the data and resources demand is also getting higher. in this work, we presents how the framework Apache Hadoop implements the Checkpoint and Recovery technique for fault tolerance providing on its distributed file system (Hadoop Distributed File System). The demand of large amounts of data from all applications supported by Hadoop framework can compromise the mechanism efficiency, once its configurations attributes are defined statically. So we present a dynamic configuration mechanism to checkpoint for Apache Hadoop through a resource monitoring, whose goal is to make the Hadoop checkpoint adaptable. The proposed mechanism is then evaluated and submitted to performance tests.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133608589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, there are multiple biometric methods, each with different advantages. A modern biometric method, which has several advantages, especially in terms of security against forgery, is finger vein identification. In the present work we have proposed and developed multi-core algorithms for the identification of people using finger veins, based on the SIFT displacement method, which currently has reached the highest efficiency performance in the state-of-the-art in the finger vein identification. The highest performance was reached with the hierarchical multi-core version, which uses two different type of threads, one is in charge of the query management and the second one in charge of the query processing with the database.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130637572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to provide a framework to determine the interrelation of activation of the use of ICTs by students in the context of the evaluation of general competences through project-oriented learning. We worked with a sample of 93 students. An experimental design of random sampling was used. In the analysis of results, the degree of use of ICTs according to the convergence model is demonstrated [1]. Consequently, self-regulation training facilitates students to use strategies related to reflective learning in their own personal work environment and collaborative network work environment.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131394507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One first problem within IMRT is to find the best possible combination of beam angles so we can deliver a clinically acceptable treatment plan to the patient. This problem, also known as the Beam Angle Optimization (BAO) problem, is very hard to solve and, thus, different strategies combining heuristics and mathematical programming have been proposed in the literature. In this paper, we propose to combine a simple yet efficient variable neighborhood search (VNS) algorithm with an interior point strategy to (approximately) solve the BAO problem. We apply our hybrid algorithm on a prostate case and compare the obtained results to those obtained by a previously proposed local search algorithm. Results show that the VNS is able to find beam angles configurations that are quite competitive w.r.t. those found by the local search algorithm.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115697979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
