Within the obtained results it is possible to emphasize the improvement in the understanding of the contents in the subject, which requires a logical thinking and understanding of the problem, considering that its resolution can be approached in multiple ways. Another result observed is the increase in the approval rate, achieving an increase of 25% compared to previous semesters.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129591309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this process, it is possible to detect objects individually, however this mode can generate a considerable error due to the enormous number of ways in which an object can be presented. It is therefore necessary to improve the level of accuracy, and a way to achieve this is taking into account the relationships between objects as well. Until now, context-oriented models generate relationships between objects without discriminating between input images. It is necessary that the model operates on each particular image, to reduce the error and obtain a conclusive result. In response to the above, this work proposes an adaptive probabilistic context-model. The model in question is a functional that processes the occurrence probability of the objects in each image, and generates the relations between the detectable objects using a Bayesian network in the form of a tree. This model is updated with the features of each image, requiring a minimization of the quadratic error through a numerical approximation, obtained by Newton-Raphson method. Comparisons were made between different heuristic proposals, as well as tests on different context-oriented databases, in order to validate the results. On the other hand, tests were performed using features extracted through histograms of orient gradients and Deep Learning. It was found that an improvement in the prediction of the order of 20% is feasible in the testing process.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129803908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider gamification, described as the usage of game elements in a non-gaming context, as a way to improve motivation and to incentivize the development of several behaviors that, we hope, will make students achieve the learning objectives of the programming courses. This paper first provides a brief overview of gamification in the context of teaching programming. Then it describes several objectives and behaviors that were identified that are expected from successful students in a programming course. We expect the contributions of this paper to be valuable on its own, but they are also part of a larger goal: the development of a gamification strategy tailored to first-year programming courses.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"412 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124398356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the most pertinent ones are not always selected depending on the resources available, which could result in failed projects. In fact, several reports show a high rate of failure in software projects. The type of development methodology chosen is one important factor when differentiating between successful from unsuccessful projects. For example, it has been reported that projects that use agile practices have a greater percentage of success. However, agile methodologies are not necessarily appropriate for any type of project. Given the above, a development methodologies recommendation system prototype was developed, that allows guiding developers with low experience or knowledge to select more appropriate methodologies according to different criteria. These criteria were obtained from bibliographic sources and then validated and complemented through an empirical study where surveys were applied to professionals of companies that develop software in Chile.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130257885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, in this article, we present an artifact that provides to web applications the ability to perform asymmetric cryptographic operations on the client-side using these devices. The artifact, designed as a service, presents two functions: (1) creation of electronic signatures of electronic documents and (2) electronic authentication of users into websites. It was designed with the purpose of allowing web developers to perform integrations in a simple and fast way. Through an empirical evaluation, in a controlled experiment, short-time integration was evidenced, confirming its potential usefulness for web developers.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125996773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the context of higher education, it has proliferated successfully to move the curricula to a competency-based education. Also, the incorporation of ICT in the training process is a growing trend that has been strongly positioned in all levels of education. However, beyond the models and paradigms, what is relevant is the implementation of an innovative proposal. This is where the problems of a complex implementation are experienced. At UC Temuco, the computer science program renewed its curriculum to a competency model. For the evaluation of achievement of competences, a course called integration workshop is included in the curriculum at the end of each year. These courses include a series of individual and group strategies, which have been designed, refined and improved over the years. ICT is a strong component in the support of strategies, including tools for collaboration, authorship, software project management, among others. The workshops are evaluated externally through an event called \"project fair\", where actors from the business, government and academic world are invited. Results have been very satisfactory and have allowed a continuous improvement of the strategies and the selection of ICT support tools.","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132268034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Behind these services, geo-textual indexes take a leading role in efficiently resolving such queries. Existing approaches combine spatial and text indexing schemes that are based primarily on secondary storage, so their performance is mainly affected by I/O costs. To overcome this limitation, a new compact memory-based index is proposed that enhances a balanced KD-Tree with keyword information encoded in the form of highly-compressed bitmaps. We also design an in-memory algorithm that efficiently resolves the Top-k Spatial Keyword Query; i.e. it retrieves the k nearest objects that are described by a set of keywords. The experiments run in this research, involving a real-world datasets, show that our propose overcome the state of the art both in space requirement (27 percent in comparison) and runtime (12.5 times faster).","PeriodicalId":235495,"journal":{"name":"2018 37th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131650375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
