A total of 380 stool samples were examined. Four species of intestinal parasites were identified, two protozoans (Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia intestinalis) and two nematodes (Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura). The prevalence of parasitic infestation was 24.73%. The prevalence of E. histolytica was 3.95%, G. intestinalis 6.31%, A. lumbricoides 11.84% and T. trichiura 2.63%. The prevalence was higher in case of staff (32.31%) and lower in case of teacher (13.16%). Highest prevalence observed during the rainy season (29.3%) and lowest in winter (19.4%). Female patient showed higher prevalence (31.25%) compared to male (24.14%). The rate of infection was higher (28.3%) among the patients, who used to drink unboiled water. The present study revealed that parasitic infection among the outdoor patients of Dhaka University Medical Centre is alarmingly high. The TVB-N and TMA-N were determined by using Conway's Micro-diffusion Technique. The nature of biochemical changes was studied up to complete spoilage. The TVB-N contents of Galda and Bagda ranged between 6.65±0.12 mg- N/100g to 8475±0.22 mg-N/100g and 6.72±0.18 mg-N/100g to 91.43±0.49 mg-N/100g. The TMA-N contents of Galda and Bagda ranged between 6.64±0.12 mg-N/100g to 39.38±0.33 mg-N/100g and 6.81±0.17 mg-N/100g to 71.41±0.35 mg-N/100g. A slight higher amount of TVB-N was observed at all stages in Galda as compared to Bagda. TMA-N contents significantly varied between Galda and Bagda (P≤0.05). Three extenders (Alsever’s solution, egg-yolk citrate and 0.9% NaCl) were combined with three cryoprotectants (ethanol, methanol and DMSO). Two-step freezing protocol (5°C to -4°C at a rate of 4°C per minute then -4°C to -80°C at a rate of 10°C per minute and finally held for 10 min) was carried out in a computer-controlled freezer where 0.25 ml straws containing spermatozoa were stored in a liquid nitrogen container at -196°C. Alsever’s solution with ethanol, Alsever’s solution with methanol and egg yolk citrate with DMSO gave better motility (%) in both pre-freeze (93.33±1.05, 90±1.83 and 88.33±2.11, respectively) and post-thaw (80±4.28, 74.17±3.96 and 76.67±4.59, respectively) periods whereas, 10% cryoprotectant gave the best motility during post-thaw period. Considering both pre-freeze and post-thaw motilities of the common carp spermatozoa, 1:9 was the best ratio for the milt and cryodiluents. The egg yolk citrate with DMSO yielded the best fertilization (37.67±1.76%) and hatching (28.67±1.85%) compared to other combinations under study. The experiment had three treatments with three replicates. Nine chambers of the raceway each of size 1.83 × 1.12 sq meter were used. Local prawn, chicken viscera and commercially available formulated feed (CP) were supplied in treatment T 1 , T 2 and T 3 , respectively at the rate of 7% body weight. Feed was supplied twice in a day in the early morning and in the evening as the fish is nocturnal. The initial average weight of fish was 24.93±0.05g, 24.99±0.04g and 24.95±0.04g in T 1 , T 2 and T 3 , respectively. The final weight of the fish under three treatments was 425.05±1.04g, 425.68±1.05g and 177.61±1.45g respectively. The initial length was 8.48±0.02, 8.49±0.02 and 8.50±0.01 in T 1 , T 2 and T 3 , respectively. The final length was 25.22±0.06 cm, 25.21±0.14 cm and 14.87±0.13 cm in T 1 , T 2 and T 3 , respectively. The mean final weight and length was significantly (p 0.05) between T 1 and T 2 in terms of final weight and length was concerned. Some plants draw a special attention for their low lethal and other environment-friendly activities (Talukder & Howse, 1995). Epiphytes or air plants that do not normally root in the soil but grow upon another living plant, draw attention as a source of bioactive potentials. Use of these plants in the traditional system of folk medicine is well known (Mallavadhani et al., 2003). Epiphytes of Bangladesh remain untouched from investigation for their bioactive potentials. However, C. longa has some phytochemical and medicinal properties, but its use for the control of crop pests and the information on its efficacy against stored grain pest is still scanty.
