The bloom was observed in March, August and September. Some environmental parameters such as water temperature, transparency, pH, Dissolved Oxygen(DO), free Carbon dioxide(CO 2 ), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), NO 2- N, NH 3- N, NH 4 + , toxic ammonia, Oxidation reduction Index (rH 2 ) were recorded and their relationship with the bloom formation by cyanobacteria are discussed. During the study period 23 species of cyanobacteria were identified. Among which Microcystis , Anabaena , Planktothrix were found to be the dominant genera. Microcystis aeruginosa was the most dominant species during the bloom period. At the peak bloom period, Microcystis aeruginosa comprised 81.64% and 83.24% of total cyanophyceae in pond-1 and pond-2, respectively. The initiation and persistence of natural bloom of cyanobacteria, especially Microcystis was found to be triggered by relatively high temperature (33.21-33.53°C), alkaline pH (8.8), and nutrient enrichment especially high NO 2- N, NH 3- N, and NH 4 + concentration. In the present study, six strains of Aeromonas spp bacteria were isolated from the gourami ( Colisa lalia ) by 16S rDNA sequencing analyses that are pathogenic to freshwater fish. Among them, three were under Aeromonas veronii species, two were Aeromonas sp ATCC and one was Aeromonas hydrophila . Colisa lalia usually imported in Korea from the South and South-east Asian countries for recreational purposes. However, they are playing important role as a disease vector or carriers. The infected fish of this study frequently have hemorrhages at the base of the fins or on the skin, and gross ulcerative lesions. Internal signs include, fluid in the abdomen, swollen liver and spleen, and the intestine was distended and fluid-filled. Variations among genotypes were highly significant (P<0.001). Phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation for all the characters. Of them unfertilized and dead egg percentage showed highest difference between genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation suggesting most influence of environment on these characters. Majority of the characters showed high heritability except hatching percentage. Furthermore total number of egg laying per female showed high genetic advance together with high heritability, which indicates the importance of additive gene effect of this character. The genotypic correlations were higher than phenotypic correlation for majority of the characters under study except DEP Vs TEL and DEP Vs UEP. These low phenotypic correlations could be due to a modifying effect of environment and the association of characters at genotypic level. Hatching percentage, blue egg percentage and unfertilized egg percentage showed both positive and negative significant correlation to each other. Therefore, proper attention should be given to these characters specially total number of egg laid by female and hatching percentage in selection programme for genetic gain in Bombyx. mori.","PeriodicalId":23467,"journal":{"name":"University Journal of Zoology, Rajshahi University","volume":"7 1","pages":"13-16"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72885518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A research was undertaken to assess the effect of three types of feed on growth of Thai pangus ( Pangasius hypophthalmus ) and rohu ( Labeo rohita ) in polyculture system for 11 months from 15 May 2005 to 15 April 2006 in Khulna. Growth performance using Hand-made Feed (F 1 ) was compared with two commercial fish feed, Sunney Feed (F 2 ) and Saudi-Bangla Feed (F 3 ) in three respective treatments of T 1 , T 2 and T 3 . All treatments were carried out in triplicate at 24700/ha for Thai pangus and 4940/ha for rohu. Average initial weight of Thai pangus and rohu were 4.5 and 33.5g respectively. Growth performance was influenced by feed type. Average final weight of Thai pangus and rohu were 820 and 710; 846 and 770; and 872 and 717g with specific growth rate 1.58 and 0.93; 1.59 and 0.95 and 1.60 and 0.93 % day -1 in T 1 , T 2 and T 3 respectively. Feed conversion ratio was estimated 2.3 in T 1 , 2.1 in T 2 and 1.96 in T 3 . The result showed a typical increasing trend of final weight and specific growth rate of Thai pangus along with the increasing of feed protein level. But rohu showed highest growth in T 2 where protein level was 26-30% which was lower than that of T 3 (Protein level 28-32%). The study suggests that suitable protein level and quality feed is required for adequate growth of fish. Key words: Feed, Thai pangus, Polyculture, Growth.
