It has been found that the frequency dependence of the deviation of the C-V characteristic (from its normal V/sup -1/2/ dependence) is strongly dependent on the ratio of the defect density to the effective doping density N/sub t//N'/sub d/. As the defect density approaches the effective dopant density, or N/sub t//N'/sub d/ to 1, the junction capacitance eventually assumes the value of the detector geometry capacitance at high frequencies (f>or=10/sup 5/ Hz), independent of voltage. A two-trap-level model that uses the concept of quasi-Fermi levels and predicts the effects of C-V frequency dependence and dopant compensation observed has been developed. >","PeriodicalId":234642,"journal":{"name":"1990 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122735370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To be useful, 3-mm isotropic resolution and 2-3-s time binning were desirable characteristics for such a dedicated tomograph. A single plane in which two objects of interest could be imaged simultaneously was considered acceptable. Multilayered detector designs were evaluated as a possible solution to the dynamic acquisition and high-resolution imaging requirements. The University of Washington photon history generator was used to generate data to investigate a tomograph's sensitivity to true, scattered, and random coincidences for varying detector ring diameters. Intrinsic spatial uniformity advantages of multilayered detector designs over conventional detector designs were investigated using a Monte Carlo program. As a result, a modular two-layered detector prototype is being developed. A module will consist of a layer of five 3.5-mm-wide crystals and a layer of six 3.5-mm-wide crystals. It is believed that adequate sampling can be achieved with a stationary detector system using these modules. Economical crystal decoding strategies have been investigated, and simulations have been run to investigate optimum light channeling methods for block decoding strategies. >","PeriodicalId":234642,"journal":{"name":"1990 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123028596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ion-collecting electrode is suspended by magnetic force without using all insulator so that the chamber is free from background current (such as leakage current and piezoelectricity) caused by the insulator. The electrode is reset periodically (every hour), and the ionization current is measured by detecting the amount of charge which flows through the reset contact. Experiments show that the chamber is useful for monitoring environmental gamma-ray dose (when the chamber is closed) or radon concentration in air (when the chamber is opened). The minimum detectable magnitude of ionization current is about 10/sup -17./ A, when the electrode is reset every hour. >","PeriodicalId":234642,"journal":{"name":"1990 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129365293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
