Vasiliev","doi":"10.18254/s207054760005278-2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18254/s207054760005278-2","url":null,"abstract":"The features of the current economic cycle of the U.S. economy, which in the summer of 2019, is likely to set the record for the duration of the economic recovery phase in the entire history of the United States after the end of World War II are analyzed. Economic theory and practice show that approximately every 10 years, starting in 1960, economic downturns occurred in the U.S. economy, which sometimes took the form of acute and protracted economic crises, which was the case in 2007–2009. The general modern trend of American economic development is the slowdown in the dynamics of key economic indicators, including the rates of real economic growth. This slowdown occurs against the background of a number of other unfavorable factors of the state of the economy, including “overheating” of stock markets, record figures of federal budget deficits, federal government debt and net interests paid on it, which deprives the U.S. fiscal policy of flexibility in responding to possible adverse changes in economic conditions. The general conclusion of the article is that there is high probability that at the beginning of the next decade the U.S. economy will enter another economic recession and even severe and protracted economic crisis. These changes in the phases of economic cycle undoubtedly will have serious political consequences and may lead to change in Administrations in Washington. It appeared in the bipolar era – and now we live in a multipolar world where different centers of power coexist, pursuing their own interests. In addition, the military-technical progress achieved in recent years was bound to erode the strategic balance between the nuclear \"super-powers\" that had emerged during the cold war. The demise of this crucial disarmament agreement will have very negative consequences for the entire disarmament and non-proliferation system. The collapse of the INF Treaty could be the final nail in the coffin of arms control. Given the close and inextricable link between disarmament and non-proliferation, the process of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons is not likely to survive the collapse of arms control. The consequences for international security can be completely unpredictable – nuclear weapons can fall in the hands of unstable States. Trump policies towards the South Caucasus. The main focus was put on the ways and means of the both Administrations policies on the way of its realization there. Despite of their different approaches to the region it proved Washington sustained interest there due to its geopolitical importance. An analysis of Barack Obama administration policies in the region continued to proceed at a slow pace in comparison with Donald Trump Administration policies there which is shaped by its own logic based on pure egocentrism. Unlike all previous US administrations D. Trump does not build a long-term strategy for a particular country, but is guided by the short-term considerations. This perfectly confirms the retreat of the D. Trump administration from multilateral format, which is considered as extremely inefficient, and on the contrary the use of forming bilateral alliances with a particular country, which, according to the logics of the American president, is much more efficient. A special focus is put on US cooperation with Georgia as the most reliable American ally in the region; NATO position on Georgian possible membership; Azerbaijan as the most influential key player in the region; Armenian as a country walking a tightrope between Russia and the West; the problem of conflict settlement in the South Caucasus. A detailed analysis conducted in the study will make it possible to realize in full the algorithm of Western policy in the South Caucasus in general as well as in every single South Caucasian country in particular. Accordingly it will provide a better understanding for the Russian Federation while shaping its foreign policy toward the region. It is concentrated on the interaction with the armed forces of the countries of the region as a social and political institution. The approach to lending financial, expert and political assistance to individual countries and groups of countries is studied, as well as the balance between traditional defense goals and the search for addressing new threats. Beginning with the roots of post-Cold War trend of submitting armed forces in the region to civilian control , also aimed at curtailing their role in domestic politics, the study passes to the establishment of the U.S. political and military strategy for their use against the challenges of deficient local governments, rural guerrillas, and drug cartels. Since the turn of the century, the U.S. dealing with the problems of instability and lack of security in such countries as Colombia, Mexico and Central American republics underwent several stages, from mainly bilateral programs of assistance with weapons and training to more institutionalized multilateral initiatives addressing structural weaknesses of the recipient states. This field of foreign and military policy of the United States demonstrates considerable continuity, although there is a certain degree of abstention on the part of the Trump administration, manifested in less financing of civilian-military projects. However, important shifts in partisan and social struggle in the region has brought the military back to politics in a few countries, which explains more scrutiny of their behavior by the U.S. government. Shvedova","doi":"10.18254/S207054760004702-9","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18254/S207054760004702-9","url":null,"abstract":"The role of women in modern American politics is hard to overestimate: women are introducing new elements into the political culture; their active participation is an objective element of the political system; both ruling parties are aware of and take into account the gender factor. Gender equality created in society due to a conscious state policy of achieving gender balance, strengthening women's economic opportunities, an active women's democratic organized movement, however, requires further considerable efforts to overcome pressing or unresolved discriminatory problems in this area, which is reflected in the demands of women electorate in the elections of 2018, considered as a forerunner of the electoral race 2020. In 2018 all 435 members of the House of Representatives, 35 out of 100 senators, 36 out of 50 governors, were re-elected. In 33 states, there were 35 campaigns for the Senate, in 16 of which women took part, i.e. female candidates were nominated in almost 46 percent of the total number of reelected senate seats. There were a total of 157 election campaigns, the outcome of which will affect the large-scale aspects of people's daily lives. Ordinary voters, women and men, accumulate not small experience and skills of an active citizen in the performance of their duty.
