Every year, medical billing errors cost the United States government billions in public funds wrongfully or erroneously paid out. While recent reports indicate modest decline in hospital billing errors, the rate of physician evaluation and management billing errors show no signs of improvement. Opinions vary on the causes of these billing errors and consequently on the appropriate countermeasures. Despite this national crisis, to date, no strategies have proven to improve physician billing accuracy. This research examines the existing literature to explore theories and constructs that explain causal factors of physician billing errors and to illuminate gaps in the research which if explored, may result in potential strategies for improving billing accuracy.
This narrative profile of Moez Limayem, Dean of the Muma College of Business, was developed using the thematic narrative research method, which included three exploratory interviews. The initial interview on which this narrative is based focused on the formative experiences that shaped Dean Limayem's life and career up to the present day. The objective was to derive the meaning of Dean Limayem's lived experiences through his storytelling. Based on initial research, the interviews were framed under the central theme of innovation. However, early into the interviews, the theme of innovation proved too narrow and was expanded to include the themes of relationships and changing lives. These themes revealed that innovation is not Dean Limayem's end goal but rather a means to the end of his true mission of changing lives. Utilizing existing frameworks found in the literature, we identified the construct of servant leadership as a model to evaluate the interview. Two dimensions of servant leadership, relationships, and helping subordinates grow and succeed, contribute to this research by exploring the lived experience of Dean Limayem based on the antecedents and outcomes of his success.
How Does Organizational Culture Influence the Adoption of Research Evidence by Management Practitioners?
Using the best available evidence from multiple sources can lead to more effective management practice. However, management practitioners often make decisions based on limited evidence, mostly from personal experience and judgment. Values, beliefs, and practices may conflict with a manager’s ability to use research evidence in practice. \u0000\u0000This systematic review suggests that an integration of the diffusion of innovations (Rogers, 1995) and planned behavior (Ajzen, 1991) theories may be used to explain the influence of values, beliefs, and practices on the adoption of research evidence by management practitioners. These cultural influence factors may be conceptualized as moderating the effects of innovation diffusion efforts on research evidence adoption behavior. \u0000\u0000Viewing evidence-based management (EBMgt) as an innovation, organizational managers may employ innovation diffusion strategies to influence values, beliefs, and practices conducive to using research evidence in management practice. This review presents recommendations for both practitioners and scholars to facilitate EBMgt. Practitioners can promote a culture that enables evidence-based practice, use tact when presenting evidence to a skeptical audience, and form partnerships with scholars. Leaders can promote the use of evidence in their organizations, provide evidence-based practice tools and training, and use human resource practices to ensure key positions are proficient in research skills. Scholars can publish more practitioner-friendly evidence and teach business and management students research skills.

People’s Digital Identity has been at the epicenter of cybersecurity breaches. Defining the composition of digital identity is the first step at risk identification and the first step towards risk mitigation. Cybersecurity risk management tools are lacking in user-centricity. The lack of discussion and seeking assistance has created an industry with a suicide rate that is 4.3 times as high as the national average, with two to three construction workers dying daily of work-related injuries, with an average of ten to fifteen dying daily from suicide.

This article chronicles the elaborated action design research (eADR) approach used to evaluate the design and implementation stages of this project, reflecting on this ongoing effort to deploy a standard for management of 3D models. These 3D design models are a foundational element of the virtual representation or ‘digital twin’ of physical assets. The researcher evaluates the project artifacts created to date, focusing on the business case for the standard with various use cases where value can be derived from investment in maintaining the model beyond the design stage of capital facility development and its impact on total cost of ownership. Included in the analysis is an outline of key artifacts created as part of the researcher’s intervention and how they were created as well as a summary of the project’s artifacts and the use cases they support. Initial results of the project team’s analysis reveal how firms can reduce total cost of ownership while improving the performance and reliability of complex process facilities by maintaining the 3D design models and using them throughout the facility lifecycle.

To address this expanding complexity, the Defense Department introduced ‘design’ into its problem-solving doctrine. This study seeks to understand the challenges with design by examining two areas: 1) the common challenges facing senior planners responsible for solving complex problems, and 2) the model or process that best enables design approaches to support military decision-making.
