The Box-Jenkins approach was utilized in the development of an appropriate model. The dataset was retrieved from the Epidemiology Bureau of the Department of Health containing the weekly number of leptospirosis cases in the Philippines from 2016 to 2018. This dataset was analyzed using the R software. The original series is nonstationary with indications of non-constant variance. Box-Cox transformation and ordinary differencing were performed on the series. The transformed series was analyzed and the results show that ARIMA(0,1,0) or the random walk model is the most appropriate model for forecasting leptospirosis incidence. The residuals and forecast errors of the fitted model behave like a white noise process. The fitted model may be used for forecasting the future number of leptospirosis cases in the Philippines.","PeriodicalId":234087,"journal":{"name":"University of Mindanao International Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125548542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In extension, the global village is a village of crisis where morality is seriously endangered with particular references to Africa, there is a serious need to attest the pathetic erosion of morality. There are diverse mechanisms for achieving this but one potential factor that should be considered is the potency of taboo. Really, the logical neo-positivist questions the scientific verifiability of taboo while many Christians and Muslims regard it as mere mythical construction to low unvaried mind through superstitious and further the relevance of African Traditional Religion. This paper argues that it is a critical analytical blunder to examine taboo through the lens of Western logic. Besides, modernity does not outlaw the pragmatic significance of taboo. Hence, taboo obeys a special metaphysical logic that draws on the synergy between the physical and the divine realm.","PeriodicalId":234087,"journal":{"name":"University of Mindanao International Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129074416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The soil serves as a sink and can accumulate different types of minerals and nutrients, including metals and metalloids that are harmful even at lower concentrations. Plants’ ability to sequester metals and mobilize into various plant parts are significant in the bioremediation process. This study used quantitative and exploratory research design, which involves the collection of soil and plant samples subjected to laboratory test to determine the heavy metal concentration in Pulabato, Tampakan, South Cotabato in terms of arsenic (As), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg). Analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation, simple and multiple linear regressions are employed to determine significant differences, relationships, and influences. Results show significant differences in plant heavy metal concentration across low, mid, and high elevations for metals Cu, Pb, and Hg. Pb concentration in soil shows a significant relationship with Cu in plants. Also, Pb concentration shows a positive correlation and Hg with a negative correlation for Pb concentration in the plant. Moreover, Hg’s presence in plants shows a negative correlation in Pb for soil and a positive relationship with Hg. Simple linear regression statistics show that Pb significantly influences Cu, Pb in the plant by Pb in soil, and Pb in the plant with Hg in soil. Multiple regression statistics show a significant Pb’s influence in the soil to Pb in the plant but not with Hg. Lastly, As and Pb significantly influences Hg concentration in plants.","PeriodicalId":234087,"journal":{"name":"University of Mindanao International Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123349225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to characterize the happiness of college students in the context of a college situated in a rural setting in Davao del Sur. The study utilized a mixed method type of research – qualitative research design was utilized by conducting three separate focus group discussions (n=40) of the possible sources of happiness of the students, yielding 146 discrete responses, followed by the use of the quantitative design, which employed the data reduction method in developing a measure of happiness. A total of n=416 students were randomly-chosen to respond on the survey and were asked on how happy they are on the pre-determined sources of happiness. Data reduction via factor analysis was employed to trim the 146 items down to 19 items, which loaded to five components or dimensions. It was revealed that the dimensions of happiness of college students include (1) outdoor activities, (2) within-the-generation activities, (3) romance, (4) self-indulgence, and (5) online gaming. It was further revealed that the top five sources of happiness are eating delicious food, vacation, having adventure, gifts, and hanging out with friends. As a whole, the extent of happiness of college students was high. The results can be a basis in the development of growth sessions, formation programs and classroom activities that can benefit college students. Likewise, it is recommended that the resulting happiness scale will be tested in other institutions of higher learning, or validated with existing measures to establish its psychometric properties.","PeriodicalId":234087,"journal":{"name":"University of Mindanao International Multidisciplinary Research Journal","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126096475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
