The core of this issue is that patients are unable to see a mental health provider in a timely manner to be screened for psychiatric illness, be competently diagnosed and subsequently treated in an evidence-based manner. In a bid to mitigate this issue, the field of telepsychiatry has slowly evolved in the last couple of decades into a system which allows face-to-face quality psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment modalities delivered through electronic mediums, primarily video-teleconferencing. This electronic, cost effective mechanism allows access to a mental health provider in a timely manner, enhancing psychiatric care due to early intervention and follow-up, leading to positive outcomes. There is a dire need for mental health providers to be taught the skills required to evaluate patients who are not geographically present in their vicinity due to various circumstances and the optimal ways to assess their mental health conditions. There is a need for clinicians to learn this new and evolving technology and gain expertise to identify underlying emotional issues via technological means and help patients in achieving positive mental health outcomes.","PeriodicalId":233801,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Yoga, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125276211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to assess how Zumba ® Gold or YogaFit ® affect cognitive functioning in elderly adults. This research was designed to assess the benefits of these two interventions and determine which intervention might lead to greater improvement. Female participants age 65 to 91 years of age from Minot, North Dakota participated 30 minutes twice weekly for 12 weeks in either YogaFit ® or Zumba ® Gold classes. Cognitive functioning of participants was assessed pre-mid-post intervention. Significant improvements in cognitive functioning at mid and post assessment were found in both YogaFit ® and Zumba ® Gold participants. The results support that the growing body of evidence that physical activity, specifically YogaFit ® and Zumba ® Gold exercise, may contribute to improvements in cognitive functioning..","PeriodicalId":233801,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Yoga, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation","volume":"187 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124316642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most common initial treatment for major depressive disorder includes a combination of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Although these modalities are effective adherence issues are common; and complementary and alternative approaches may provide additional options for depressive disorders. Yoga is the most commonly used complementary health approach in the United States of America (USA) [1]. There is some clinical evidence that supports the benefits of yoga for depressive disorders, but the results are variable. The article reviews data from current randomized clinical trials, systematic reviews and a meta-analysis on the effectiveness of yoga for depressive disorders (Appendix).","PeriodicalId":233801,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Yoga, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130785594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the main role of stabilizing the joint, the labrum also makes sure that the pressure that is placed upon the joint is dispersed throughout the entirety of the surface, provides the joint with adequate amounts of synovial fluid, and protects the joint against trauma by not allowing the bones or cartilage to rub directly upon each other. Research has shown that the labrum reduces 92% of the stress that is placed upon the acetabulofemoral joint [1]. In active individuals, the acetabular head is kept within the joint by the surrounding muscles and the help of the labrum. Some researchers believe that the labrum does not have a job in the function of the hip when weight is placed upon it [1].","PeriodicalId":233801,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Yoga, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124509476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It invites practitioners to focus on an internal awareness of constructed experiences [1]. Depending on the personal foundation for the practice, the intention of mindfulness is for ultimate liberation or, as seen primarily in Western practice, psychological or physical symptom management [2]. While there are many benefits of a mindfulness practice, there remain many barriers to incorporating it into an American lifestyle. Barriers to exploring a mindful practice could be seen in the roots of the practice itself. The Buddhist spiritual and religious underlying assumptions of mindfulness might be a deterrent for some. Furthermore, the Western expectations for rigorous work schedules and an emphasis on productivity and “doing” rather than “being” can result in a lack of time for a formal mindfulness practice. However, the psychological and physical benefits of mindfulness outweigh the barriers to practicing. Mindfulness can exist within and without Buddhism. An effective mindfulness practice is also accessible to Westerners within schedules where time is sparse for a formal practice.
