Initially, we showed the significant correlation between Twitter’s feed and traditional traffic sensors. Then, we presented the Twitter MAPS (T-MAPS) a low-cost spatiotemporal model to improve the description of traffic conditions through tweets. T-MAPS enhance traditional traffic sensors by carrying the human lens into the transportation system. We conducted a case study by running T-MAPS and Google Maps route recommendation, in which, we showed T-MAPS viability, as an additional traffic descriptor. As a result, we noticed the median of route similarity reached 62%, and for a quarter of the evaluated trajectories, the similarity achieved between 75% and 100%. Also, we presented three route description services, based on natural language analyzes, Route Sentiment (RS), Route Information (RI), and Area’ Tags (AT) aiming to enhance the route information.","PeriodicalId":233592,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128264232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, IEEE 802.11-based networks are easily interfered with, due to coexistence with other 2.4 GHz wireless networks, such as IEEE, 802.15.1 and IEEE 802.15.4-basednetworks. This problem causes a degraded performance of these wireless networks, especially inhighdensity areas where several APs (Access Points) are located in the same area to increase throughput. This paper presents MFDCA (Multi-Factor Dynamic Channel Assignment), which is a dynamic channel assignment modular approach for Wi-Fi networks. MFDCA channel assignment is a hybrid modular scheme that can be applied to centralized and distributed design networks. This approach can be used to assign all IEEE 802.11b/g/n standard channels (overlapping and nonoverlapping), and also includes an interference analysis module which uses a number of factors that may affect the transmission quality, such as signal receiver strength indicator (RSSI), signalto interference plus noise ratio (SINR), link quality (LQ), and overlapping factor (OF). MFDCAwas evaluated in a real testbed and results showed that it reduced the packet loss rates (lessthan 5.3%) and improved the quality and reliability of network traffic throughout (29-32 Mbits/s), requiring relatively low sensing process complexity and considering in assignment overlapping and non-overlapping channels from IEEE 802.11 standard.","PeriodicalId":233592,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124657428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, in residential areas and rehab centres, sensors can be attached to subjects to monitor their movements, body exertions, and cardiac activities. These benefits, however, are also challenged by the difficulty of establishing reliable and stable links. In cellular networks, mobile stations are always associated with the nearest base station through intra-and inter-cellular handover. The underlying process is that the quality of an established link is continually evaluated and handover decisions are dully made by resource rich base stations. In wireless sensor networks, should a seamless handover be carried out, the task has to be accomplished by energy constraint, resource-limited, and low-power wireless sensor nodes in a distributed manner. In this paper we propose a sender-initiated mobility management protocol to enable seamless handover. We have fully implemented the protocol in TinyOS environment for the TelosB and Imote2 platforms, experiment results showing that our protocol achieves high reliability and triggers less handover requests (less than 50% to 80%) compared to three state-of-the-arts. Furthermore, our protocol reduces the signalling overhead by up to 95%.","PeriodicalId":233592,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129535109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These mechanisms are implemented on top of coordination infrastructures, such as tuple spaces. A recent study showed that extensibility is fundamental for performance: the main idea is to allow the servers supporting the coordination infrastructure to access and process coordination information, consequently, it is not necessary to transfer information to clients or to reprocess requests due to concurrency. Unfortunately, existing proposals for extensible distributed coordination do not provide security and privacy once servers must access data in plaintext. This work proposes the use of robust cryptographic schemes, recently integrated into DEPSPACE, to develop secure protocols for extensible coordination. Experiments show that the proposed solutions significantly improve system performance.","PeriodicalId":233592,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130320788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A number of CR-MAC protocols have been studied for Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs), but most state-of-the-art frequencyhopping based protocols focus mainly on channel mobility and spectrum resource allocation. They lack integration of other essential features such as time synchronization and cooperative spectrum sensing, which are practically crucial, into a full-blown CR-MAC protocol. In this paper, we propose MSHCS-MAC: a mac protocol for Multi-hop CRNs based on Slow Hopping and Cooperative Sensing approach which is the cutting edge frequency hopping scheme. The contributions of MSHCS-MAC are threefold: (1) Support of multi-hop communication without dedicated control channel and multiple transceivers, (2) Integration of essential CR-MAC features such as bootstrapping, multi-channel operation, cooperative spectrum sensing and time synchronization, (3) Practical implementation and evaluation on commercial devices. The evaluation results show that MSHCS-MAC provides reasonable performance in the experimental testbed with supporting multihop communication and essential CR-MAC features.","PeriodicalId":233592,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126697882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This type of system uses artificial intelligence capabilities and machine learning techniques to assign probabilities to people who undergo the test in the application. According to the information provided by the authors of the mobile application, it is intended to use fuzzy neural networks to aid in prediction whether or not the person has traits of autism. Therefore, this paper proposes the insertion of an interpretive technique based on an extreme learning machine to deal with questions provided by users seeking to obtain more immediate responses, based on binary classification labels. The tests performed with the base achieved high levels of accuracy for the proposed model and base, making it a viable alternative for the efficient prediction of children with autism.","PeriodicalId":233592,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123812184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we study Bashlite botnets and their successors, Mirai botnets. In particular, we focus on the evolution of the malware as well as changes in botnet operator behavior. We use monitoring logs from 47 honeypots collected over 11 months. Our results shed new light on those botnets, and complement previous findings by providing evidence that malware, botnet operators, and malicious activity are becoming more sophisticated. Compared to its predecessor, we find Mirai uses more resilient hosting and control infrastructures, and supports more effective attacks.","PeriodicalId":233592,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123624339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed techniques are based on a developed theoretical expression for the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of an AF cooperative OFDM system taking into account the nonlinear distortions introduced by the relays’ PAs. Our results show that both the proposed techniques can significantly improve the system capacity when compared to a classical relay selection method. In parallel, the Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) support people in their interactions, especially when the interlocutors are geographically distant from one another. In CMC, there are several approaches to promote empathy in social or human- computer interactions. However, for this type of communication, a little explored mechanism to gain empathy is the use of the theory of Neurolinguistics that presents the possibility of developing a Preferred Representation System (PRS) for cognition in humans. In this context, this paper presents an experimental evaluation of the NeuroMessenger, a collaborative messenger library that uses Neurolinguistics, Psychometry and Text Mining to promote empathy among interlocutors, from the PRS identification and suggestion of textual matching. The results showed that the performance with the use of NeuroMessenger, in favor of empathy, was higher, as well as there was an evidence statistically significant of the difference between the distribution of grades in the empathy evaluation,in favor of NeuroMessenger. Despite the results are satisfactory, more research on textual matching to gain empathy is needed.","PeriodicalId":233592,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC)","volume":"288 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114347084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
