A total of 252 ejaculates semen were collected from 3 Senduro bucks from January to December 2017. The semen quality was then evaluated including semen volume VOL , sperm concentration CONC , total sperm output TSO , individual motility IMOT , before freezing motility BFMOT , postthawing motility PTMOT . The acceptance rate of fresh semen ARFS , before freezing semen ARBFS , and postthawing semen ARPTS were also calculated. The results showed the seasons had a significant effect P 0.05 among these groups. Moreover, it was interesting that the maximum PTMOT was achieved at high AT and THI. In conclusion, the rainy season has more preferred ejaculate semen than the dry season, but the semen collection is still acceptable to be carried out throughout the year. This study also suggests that Senduro bucks have good adaptability to tropical conditions.","PeriodicalId":23357,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84066038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the research farm, a group was formed by randomly selecting water buffaloes based on their genetic similarities and lactation numbers. The buffalo group formed was housed in a closedtype barn. The inside and outside air temperatures, relative humidity, and milk yield values of the buffaloes were recorded for 1 year. According to the results of this research, the Anatolian water buffaloes emitted 653 kcal/h AU sensible heat, 351 kcal/h AU latent heat, and 518 g/h AU water vapor during the winter, while they emitted 421 kcal/h AU sensible heat, 536 kcal/h AU latent heat, and 916 g/h AU water vapor during the summer in the barn environment under optimum design conditions. These values can be used to control indoor climatic environmental conditions, design ventilation systems, select structural properties, and determine insulation requirement in terms of animal welfare.","PeriodicalId":23357,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75042863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three different types of food were produced using 5% additional sunflower oil, poultry fat, or beef tallow. The food was extruded using a twin-screw extruder at approximately 25% moisture and temperatures in the range of 90 °C to 135 °C. The extrudates were dried for 30–45 min at temperatures of up to 148 °C in a belt dryer. Next, the heated fats were sprayed onto the extrudates. The foods were cooled, sampled, and packaged. A total of 30 neutered adult between 1 and 3 years old male dogs were used. The preference of the dogs for the 3 different fat sources was determined via a 2-pan preference test. Preference tests were conducted for 12 days in pairs, and the dogs consumed each food for 8 days. The dogs had the greatest preference for food containing the additional sunflower oil, with a preference rate of 56%. Beef tallow was the least preferred fat, with a preference rate of 44%. Dogs preferred food containing sunflower oil more than food containing animal fats. It was concluded that dogs showed a preference in proportion to the linoleic acid level in each food.","PeriodicalId":23357,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86746894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"Effect of concrete pond and net-cage culture systems on growth performance and haematological parameters of Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii)","authors":"S. Duman","doi":"10.3906/vet-1910-41","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3906/vet-1910-41","url":null,"abstract":"The effect of concrete pond and net-cage culture systems on growth and haematological indices of the Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii were studied in a 90-day experiment. A total of 300 fish with a stocking density of 12.6 ± 0.37 kg/m2 initial average weight 1140 ± 53.8 g were stocked in floating net-cages. Also, 276 fish with a stocking density of 12.6 ± 0.29 kg/m2 and an initial average weight of 1097 ± 72.6 g were stocked in concrete ponds. Throughout the study, the average weight, mean length, and haematological parameters of the fish in each environment were recorded every 30 days. The fish in net-cages displayed higher growth rate GR , specific growth rate SGR , and body weight increase BWI as well as a lower food conversion rate FCR when compared to the fish in concrete ponds. No differences in the condition factor CF or survival rate SR were found in the trial. In terms of haematological parameters, there was no difference between the ponds and net-cages for the values of red RBC and white WBC blood cells, haematocrit Hct , haemoglobin Hb , MCV, MCH, MCHC, lymphocyte, monocyte, neutrophil, and eosinophil in the initial 30-day and 60-day sampling periods. In the 90-day sampling period, a statistical difference was found in the RBC, MCV, MCH, and WBC values between the ponds and net-cages. Furthermore, in the 90-day sampling period, no statistical difference was found in the Hct, Hb, MCHC, lymphocyte, monocyte, neutrophil, and eosinophil values. Consequently, the Siberian sturgeon culture in net-cages is advantageous to concrete ponds in regards to the growth parameters.","PeriodicalId":23357,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80026161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present study, 14 7 males, 7 females turkey skulls were used. The neurocrania of the samples were photographed and put into an electronic environment to be marked. Neurocrania were examined from 4 different regions caudal, ventral, dorsal, and lateral . Compared to PC1 obtained in dorsal sampling, the difference between points 9 and 10 and 3 to 2 was significantly higher in males. Caudal examination showed that male samples were wider laterally. In ventral measurements, it was seen that points 3 and 7 in the male were more anterior and point 1 was more posterior. The lateral area was seen to be higher in females and longer in the anterior-posterior direction in males. The greatest statistical difference was seen in landmark 4 middle point of foramen magnum's dorsal margin , obtained as a result of caudal geometric analysis P < 0.001 . The conditions of the points determined in this study in comparison with each other were determined in the coordinate system, and the differences were revealed. Geometric analysis was done in 4 different views, and statistical values were determined for sex differences in the landmarks used.","PeriodicalId":23357,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73169503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
