Radiographic images of the pelvis in the laterolateral and ventrodorsal direction were used in male and female Scottish Fold cats aged 2-4 years with dystocia and eutocia. The measurements of 18 osteometric parameters and 36 parameters, such as the height/width ratio of the cat pelvis, were taken, and statistical analysis of the measurements was initiated. When the pelvimetric data were examined, it was observed that all of the remaining 16 measurement values, except for inclinatio pelvis and arcus ischiadicus measurement values, were statistically significantly higher in the male cats than in the female cats (p < 0.05). Mean height/width ratio measurements in the cats with dystocia were mostly higher (21 parameters out of 36 parameters) than in male cats and cats with eutocia. In general, in the pelvic measurements of both male cats and cats with eutocia and dystocia, there were predominantly positive correlations. However, there were also statistically significant negative correlations. The mean pelvic inlet and outlet area measurement values were calculated as 38.21 ± 0.86 cm2 and 29.21 ± 1.21 cm$^{2}$ in the males, 32.67 ± 0.95 cm$^{2}$ and 26.38 ± 0.87 cm2 in cats with eutocia, and 29.83 ± 1.41 cm$^{2}$ and 24.83 ± 1.01 cm$^{2}$ in cats with dystocia, respectively. The basic pelvimetric data obtained in Scottish Fold cats in this study will benefit future research focusing on sex determination, breeding management programs for cats, and animal selection and help individuals working in animal clinics and on zooarchaeology.","PeriodicalId":23357,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136078130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ninety suckled Merino ewes with singleton lamb were equally allocated in two experimental groups (MPE, PE) and a control group (CON) on days 53 ± 3 (D0) postpartum. Ewes in MPE group were subjected to exogenous melatonin plus progesterone-based protocol [Melatonin (day 0) + P4 insertion (day 35) + 500 IU eCG (day 42)]. Ewes in the PE group were subjected to a progesterone-based protocol [P4 insertion (day 35) + 500 IU eCG (day 42)]. Ewes in the CON group received no application. Blood samples (10 ewes/group) were collected to determine serum leptin, cortisol, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), beta-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA), and prolactin levels on days 0, 35, and 42. A pregnancy diagnosis was performed on days 72 and 102. Neither the synchronisation protocol nor the duration of lactation affected body condition score, (BCS; 2.30 ± 0.05), serum leptin (3.49 ± 0.30 ng/mL), cortisol (6.28 ± 1.10 ng/mL), IGF-1 (53.38 ± 2.09 ng/mL) and BHBA levels (0.24 ± 0.02 mmol/L) at the beginning of study (p > 0.05). However, prolactin levels reduced (p = 0.043) by the time (111.80 ± 12.49, 97.40 ± 3.77, 66.30 ± 4.85 ng/mL) in the MPE group. The oestrus response (p < 0.0001) and pregnancy rate (p = 0.018) were higher in the MPE (70%, 30%) and PE (60%, 30%) groups than in the CON group (10%, 3.3%), respectively. In conclusion, adding a melatonin implant to a progesterone-based protocol decreased prolactin levels but did not change other hormones and BHBA levels. Although both synchronisation protocols increased oestrus response and pregnancy rate, melatonin implant did not contribute to the increment of pregnancy rate compared to a single progesterone-based protocol in suckled Merino ewes with low BCS during the early postpartum period.","PeriodicalId":23357,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136078132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, gastric tissue samples were obtained from an acetic acid-induced gastric ulcer model in rats on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, and 14th days of ulcer induction. Ulcerated gastric tissues were subjected to histologic and immunohistochemical evaluations for macrophage subtypes. The number of Iba-1+ macrophages in the gastric ulcer area significantly increased on day 3, reaching a maximum number on day 7, followed by a decrease on day 14. No Gal-3+ macrophages were seen in the gastric ulcer area until day 14. Interestingly, CD68 reacted with macrophages, (myo)fibroblast-like spindle-shaped cells, and endothelial cells in the gastric ulcer area. There was a significant increase in the α-SMA+ myofibroblasts and desmin+ microvessels on days 7 and 14. The increase in the number of Iba-1+ macrophages was followed by the appearance of α-SMA+ myofibroblasts and desmin+ blood vessels. These results suggest that (i) different macrophage subtypes are involved in gastric ulcer healing, (ii) Iba-1+ macrophages, observed in the early stages of gastric healing, participate in proinflammatory and regenerative activities, (iii) Gal-3+ macrophages, seen in the late stages of healing, contribute to proinflammatory response and tissue repair, and (iv) CD68 is not a macrophage-specific marker.","PeriodicalId":23357,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136078131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
