This paper proposes a novel mechanism hybrid non-destructive testing (NDT) method of Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT)and Pulsed Eddy Current Testing (PECT)for detecting surface and internal defects. This transceiver-integrated sensor simultaneously excites pulsed eddy current and ultrasonic waves and picks up composite signals. In particular, the ultrasound detects deep defects, and the eddy current detect surface defects. Numerical simulation and experiments have been carried out on the detection of hybrid defects. The feasibility, efficiency and reliability of the proposed method were verified.","PeriodicalId":232572,"journal":{"name":"2019 Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123381381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The echo coefficient is closely related to the size of defects. If the defect in the barrel is small, the defect echo of the guided wave will be submerged in the noise, so that the value of the echo coefficient cannot be obtained by the detection, resulting in missed and false detections. Therefore, in order to improve the accuracy of ultrasonic guided wave detection technology, a phase-controlled focusing detection method of ultrasonic guided wave based on synchronous control of time delay and amplitude factor is proposed through scientific analysis methods such as theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and simulation calculation. This method can improve the signal-to-noise ratio and echo coefficient of the echo signal, enhance the ability to detect small defects in the barrel with the guided wave. The metal block and rail were used as experimental objects respectively. The nonlinear parameters of ultrasonic bulk waves propagating in a metal block and ultrasonic guided waves propagating in a rail were measured during the temperature change process. The experimental results indicate that temperature has obvious influence on the nonlinearity of ultrasonic bulk waves or guided waves propagating in metallic solids. The ultrasonic nonlinear parameter of metallic solids increases with the increase of temperature and decreases with the decrease of temperature, which suggesting that it is necessary to compensate the effect of temperature when using nonlinear ultrasonic technology to detect relevant structures.","PeriodicalId":232572,"journal":{"name":"2019 Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT)","volume":"2013 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127460742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of the environment and characteristics of ultrasonic phased array testing, many testing images are interfered by serious noise and clutter interference, so it is difficult to identify all the flaws and will take inspector a long time. This paper presents an automatic locating algorithm of train wheel flaws in ultrasonic images based on cross-correlation and Wavelet packet denoising. Firstly, preprocessing is acted on the images, including de-noising and adaptive threshold processing. Secondly, as the echo images of web hole have periodic feature in spatial domain, image cross-correlation theory is used for extracting the period, then the echo images of web hole is removed from the B-scan images. Finally, another threshold is needed to remove small bright areas, and then the location information of flaws is obtained. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively locate the flaws, and the average locating accuracy is higher than 96%.","PeriodicalId":232572,"journal":{"name":"2019 Far East NDT New Technology & Application Forum (FENDT)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134402694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
