It is necessary to secure safe and prolonged connection in order to mitigate the disturbance consequences, to facilitate the disturbance recovery and improve grid integrity. Seamless integration of these disturbance dedicated objectives and objectives defined for nominal conditions is enabled by the procedure developed in this paper. Specifically, the proposed control structure results in bounded phase currents that modify the point of common coupling (PCC) voltages in a desired manner, while simultaneously maximizing power production in order to utilize primary energy source as much as possible. The validation of the concept was done in hardware-in-the loop environment.","PeriodicalId":232097,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2019 -18th International Conference on Smart Technologies","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125059870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years computer-aided detection/diagnosis (CAD) systems became a key component of routine clinical practice in several medical areas, such as mammography and colonoscopy. However, research on brain CAD systems is still limited compared to other areas. This paper presents a solution that uses image processing techniques on brain computed tomography (CT) scans to create a CAD system that detects fresh bleeds. The system also features a basic classification method that distinguishes between an intra-axial and an extra-axial haemorrhage with the only limitation being subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), which is not always properly classified due to its complex structure. The techniques implemented include noise reduction methods, morphological operations and segmentation algorithms. The developed CAD system was tested on 36 brain CT sets obtained from the general hospital in Malta. Results show that the system achieves a sensitivity of 94.4%, a specificity of 94.4%, a precision of 91.259% and a classification accuracy of 88.89%.","PeriodicalId":232097,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2019 -18th International Conference on Smart Technologies","volume":"323 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132455113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The filter consists of a three-layer substrate integrated waveguide (SIW), where the layers represent sub-SIW structures whose effective dielectric constants have opposite signs in different frequency ranges. In that manner, SPP-like propagation occurs at two different frequencies, providing dual-band filtering operation. The SPP-like concept and filter design are explained in detail, together with the numerical analysis, fabrication procedure and measurement results. The filter operates at 4.1/4.9 GHz and it is characterized by excellent in-band performance, high-selectivity, and robust fabrication.","PeriodicalId":232097,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2019 -18th International Conference on Smart Technologies","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132486084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reinforcement learning (RL) methods are often applied for this. However, efficient RL requires the determination of an appropriate reward function, which is a complex problem even for domain experts. In this paper we investigate if a standard robotics reinforcement learning method called PoWER can be effectively utilized with a simple, qualitatively determined reward, instead of with a complex reward function. Our use-case example is robotic throwing at a target. However, for increased complexity, we perform throwing with a 7 degree of freedom arm of a humanoid robot, and a two-dimensional target space, i.e., the target is placed arbitrarily on the plain in front of the robot, which needs to learn the direction and the distance. Results show that learning with a simplified reward function that practically assigns a qualitative reward, just as a person would, can still be effectively used for RL using PoWER.","PeriodicalId":232097,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2019 -18th International Conference on Smart Technologies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130324409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main modification is achieved through reconfiguration of the Jacobian matrix, and direct calculation of its characteristic coefficients without need to obtain inversion. The zero-crossing method is used to compute the frequency roughly for initial frequency estimation. With additional digital filtering, the parameters can be initialized properly and the updating steps can be supervised for fast convergence of Newton-Raphson iterations. With this combined approach, both high accuracy and good tracking speed can be achieved. It significantly reduces the computation complexity and makes the programming easier as well. The proposed algorithm has the quadratic convergence. Reliability and effectiveness of the proposed method was confirmed through simulation tests and results.","PeriodicalId":232097,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2019 -18th International Conference on Smart Technologies","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131990038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to help the machine designer to select the proper winding configurations and to sort out the best winding layout. The classical method based on star of slots and Fourier-series expansion of the air-gap MMF wave was implemented on the computer to quickly determine the values of the main winding factor, space harmonic content and differential leakage coefficient in order to identify the optimal winding structure. Thus, the proposed application becomes a helpful tool in the design process and can be applied for any type of single or multiphase winding layout irrespective of number of layer or number of conductor per slot. When properly deployed, their capabilities provide multiple benefits to both, utilities and their customers. DERMS consists of a set of software management tools that allow distribution companies and operators to manage a range of DERs, and offer almost real-time network control. DERMS can help tremendously in integrating, managing, and controlling flexible and intermittent DERs and electric demand. These analyses contribute to keeping the transmission and distribution system in sync with the efficient and reliable balance of supply and demand that should lead to ideally optimization of power flows, electric demand, DERs, and traditional centralized generation. Moreover, in order to handle distributed generation (DG) and to intensify its visibility within power markets, the idea of virtual power plant (VPP) has emerged. Dynamic, automated, and cost-effective management of the distribution system is achieved with DERMS tools that are presented in this paper. Moreover, various hierarchy-levels of DERMS tools co-exist nowadays, such as DER aggregator, VPP, Utility DERMS, and they all can tremendously improve efficiency of Active Distribution Networks (ADN). This paper presents an overview of the current state-of-the-art regarding various DERMS tools, and their capabilities to increase the overall distribution system efficiency.","PeriodicalId":232097,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2019 -18th International Conference on Smart Technologies","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125200436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
