This study was conducted in Edirne central district between July 2017 and July 2018 to identify important vector mosquito species, determine their seasonality and distribution pattern in general terms. Larvae, pupae, and adults were collected from areas assessed as being particularly suitable for medically important species included in the genus of Aedes, Culex, and Anopheles. In addition to the foci naturally found in the areas, ovitraps placed in the proper points were also used. As a result, 3155 female and 353 male mosquitoes belonging to 13 species of 5 genera were obtained. Among these species, Anopheles sacharovi (the primary vector of malaria in Turkey) and Culex pipiens s.l. (the primary vector of West Nile Fever) has been recognized as a public health threat to the province. An. sacharovi was represented at a very low population level, while Cx. pipiens s.l. was determined as the most common and dense species in the study area. Known to have a high preference for warmer climate compared to members of the Anopheles maculipennis s.l., An. sacharovi has the risk of increasing its population in the region with possible global warming in the future. The importance of this risk increases even more since rice production is widespread especially in Edirne and this species can use the paddy fields as an effective breeding place. While Aedes caspius was commonly encountered, Ae. albopictus was not found during the field observation and ovitrap controls.","PeriodicalId":23163,"journal":{"name":"Trakya University Journal of Natural Sciences","volume":"6 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72569807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result of the literature review, 61 genera and 174 species/subspecies (2 species only in European Turkey, 97 species only in Asian Turkey) belonging to 4 subfamilies and 13 tribes from the Turkish Pentatomidae fauna were determined. Distribution of the species by subfamilies: 14 species of Asopinae (10 in European and 13 in Asian Turkey), 125 species of Pentatominae (57 in European and 125 in Asian Turkey), Phyllocephalinae 1 species (only in Asian Turkey) and 34 species Podopinae (10 in European and 33 in Asian Turkey). The distributions of these species in Turkey (in European and Asian Turkey), Palaearctic distributions and changes in their taxonomic positions are given. In addition, additional records for 53 species, mainly from the Thrace Region, were given from various localities in Thrace and Anatolia. Pentatoma rufipes (Linnaeus, 1758) is first record for the Thrace Region. Four species, which were given in 19. century without a specific locality record, need to be verified. Two species were excluded from the Turkey list.","PeriodicalId":23163,"journal":{"name":"Trakya University Journal of Natural Sciences","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89962971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The comprehensive study present the presence of 60 invasive alien aphid species belonging to 35 genus from the Aphidomorpha suborder (Hemiptera) recorded in Turkey between 1903 and 2021. It was determined that the invasive alien aphid constitute about 10% of the aphid fauna of Turkey including 592 species belonging to 148 genera. Based on 119 years of data, the average introduction rate of invasive alien aphids into the aphid fauna of Turkey was calculated as 0.51 species per year. Also, it was determined that the invasive alien aphids are distributed in 60 of 81 provinces in Turkey. This study is the first comprehensive research including important data on invasive alien aphids in Turkey. As a result, it is thought that more local and territorial studies should be carried out in order to determine detally the current status and distribution of invasive alien aphids in Turkey.","PeriodicalId":23163,"journal":{"name":"Trakya University Journal of Natural Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82892406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The encapsulation efficiency, drug loading capacity, in-vitro release, characterization and antibiofilm activity of these formulations were compared. Characterization of NPs were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and Zetasizer. Drug loading capacity and encapsulation efficiency percentages were measured by spectrophotometric method. PLGA-NPs were spherical in shape with mean sizes of ~300 nm and surface charge of FLZ loaded PVA and PVA-R-PLGA NPs -25,9±1.99, -48,1±2.46, respectively. Sustained release of FLZ (≥60% after 6 h) were obtained in PVA-R PLGA-NPs. The encapsulation efficiency percentages of PVA-FLZ-PLGA and PVA-R-FLZ-PLGA were 50% and %85 respectively. Antibiofilm inhibition percentages are 55% and 63% respectively. These results show that the PVA-R-FLZ-PLGA drug delivery system is a new therapeutic approach that can be used in infections caused by C.albicans.","PeriodicalId":23163,"journal":{"name":"Trakya University Journal of Natural Sciences","volume":"AES-10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84517253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(Pokeweed) fruit from Turkey were investigated for their antioxidant, antibacterial, antibiofilm and anticancer potentials. To appraise of the antioxidant potentials the radical scavenging activities, reducing power and total phenolic content were determined. The antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of the extract against Enterococcus faecalis, Yersinia enterocolitica, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Salmonella typhimurium were evaluated by using agar-well diffusion, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and biofilm inhibitory concentration (BIC) assays. In addition of latening the onset of apoptosis depending on dose, the potential of the anti-proliferative effects were investigated on MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells. The highest free radical scavenging activity and phenolic content were found in seed extract of P. americana L. Seed extract showed the highest inhibition zones and showed good antibacterial activity at 2.5-5 mg/ml MIC concentrations against all bacterial strains. More significantly, seed extract was found effective on inhibition of early phase biofilm formation at 2.5- 10 mg/ml BIC concentrations against all used bacterial strains. In addition, only seed extract exhibited strong antigrowth effects on cells at different concentrations for 48 and 72 h. Subsequently, the main mechanisms of cell death of seed extract in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells were investigated led to late stage of apoptosis in the cells that cell showed positivity both Hoechst 33342 and PI at the dose dependent manner. This study showed that P. americana seed extract can contribute to alternative medicine studies and have potential power in the pharmaceutical industry.","PeriodicalId":23163,"journal":{"name":"Trakya University Journal of Natural Sciences","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74065040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
